Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Disagreable experience and poor service Stayed for 4 nights after a wonderful stay at Intercontinental Frankfurt. Hard to believe from the service I received that they belong to the same hotel group. I experienced rudeness, arrogance and simply very poor customer service at IC Berlin. I had booked a Junior Suite for my wife, daughter and myself. As an IHG member I asked at check in where the club lounge was located. I was informed bluntly that I did not have access but no further explanation was forthcoming. I asked to speak to the duty manager who was even blunter and ruder. He stated that it was an additional 80E or 90E/day to use the facility. When I objected and explained that this is not clear when booking the room he just dismissively stated that if I go to a supermarket do I expect free food for being a frequent shopper and so he would not give lounge access without a charge. He did not care what other hotels offered. I would not have booked this hotel had I know this in advance. He finally offered 20E discount and one day complementary use of the lounge. However when I went to use the lounge I was then informed it was only to 4pm. The lounge was fine but no better than many others and certainly not justifiable for the cost. Later when asking front desk about availing of the breakfast in the hotel I was told it would be an additional 79E as I had not booked it in advance. Not surprisingly I rejected as many of the cafes around the hotel offer a very good breakfast at a substantially better value. The room was dull, grey, lifeless and not in keeping with vibrant Berlin. It lacked any warmth or character with pink spot lights more in tune with a cheap motel. The bed for the child was not made up when we checked in and the luggage staff told us to make it up ourselves. We insisted that someone make up the bed with supplied bedding as none was supplied. Air conditioning did not work below 25C and was noisy so opened the windows instead (could not face the front desk or duty manager rudeness again to ask for help). However the bathroom and shower facilities were excellent. The most positive experience of the hotel was the Spa and pool area. They are maintained well with very attentive and friendly staff. Well done to the Spa staff! Overall this was a very poor experience and dealing with the staff outside normal check-in/out was poor. Strongly recommend that many of the frontline staff get customer focussed training, especially the duty manager. There seems to be a tendency to blame the customer for not knowing minute details when booking. Duty manager expressed his pride in hotel above customer satisfaction. This was supposed to be a holiday for my family but the experienced was tainted by staying here. This is not a hotel I will stay again for business or leisure. August 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Three Wonderful Nights in Berlin The entire staff was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. Much of the staff (reception, concierge, bar) spoke very good English. The bar had reasonable prices for beer. On both Friday and Saturday nights there was live jazz at the hotel bar. The bar provided 'snacks' while drinking. The concierge was able to secure us dinner reservations at a local German restauran (Restaurant Leibniz-Klause). This reservation was an amazing way to eat at a family ran restaurant. We stayed for hours. Internet was mediocre an the television had ~5 English channels. The hotel was ~10 minute walk from the "Zoo" S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations. August 25, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cosy hotel, friendly staff We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The concierge staff were very friendly and helpful.The staff at the Merlene bar were amazing, they were more than happy to explain the menu to my kids. We would stay in this hotel next time we visit Berlin. The only negative was the room cleaning staff came into the room while the kids were still asleep and opened the blinds, basically forcing them out of bed. she also tried to clean the bathroom while I was still using it. Overall, we had a memorable stay at this hotel. It deserves a five star!!! August 25, 2015
