The personal greeting and farewell from the General Manager upon our arrival and at the departure was something I've never experienced in the hundreds fo trips I've taken. The tone she set was evident as the rest of the staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to provide great service. I stayed in the garden view bungelow with pool and enjoyed the experience! The room was incredibly comfortable -- mattress and pillows exceeded my expectations. Nice bathroom as well. My only criticism would be that everything shuts down so early. On our first evening we took a nap and awoke at 9:30 to find the kitchen closed. Everything in the area was also closed. I wished that the hotel woudl have offered late room service or kept the bar lounge open later with some food items available. 21 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room mixup & clogged sinks My friends and I stayed at this property for 5 nights in November 2013. The property is slightly outdated but overall, not bad. Upon our arrival the first day, we were given a tour of the property and then shown to our over the water bungalows. We had booked two bungalows with twin beds. However, they gave rooms with one full sized or queen bed. When we explained that the sleeping situation would not work for us and that none of us were couples, they suggested that one of us sleep on the sofa bed. I'm sorry but we did not pay this much to sleep on a sofa bed. We were told that there were no twin bed rooms available. After expressing our disappointment that this setup was not acceptable, they then went to double check their system. Turns out that 2 rooms were available. It was later explained to us that it was our agents fault for not passing on our bed preference. Regardless of whose fault it was, suggesting that one of us sleep on the sofa bed, which is not as comfortable as a bed, was not acceptable or accommodating. Another downfall was that the sinks in both bungalows were clogged. The double sinks in ine room drained very very slowly and the one sink in the other room wouldn't drain at all. The sink plug was completely stuck shut. Despite these mishaps, our overall stay was good. The hotel is not as modern or upscaled as its sister hotel or many of the others but it's clean and well managed for the price you pay. If you want the nice fancy perks, you still have the option of going over to the Thalasso. It is definitely windy here (day & night) compared to the Thalasso which makes swimming/snorkeling a little difficult but on the flip side, it has the best snorkeling areas. You see a lot more fish here. Plus the coral gardens is only a 10-15min kayak ride away. There are also many local restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. There are definitely pros and cons to this property. It all depends on what your holiday plans are. As for receiving IHG Rewards for my stay, unfortunately, I was informed that I didn't qualify since I booked the room from a travel agent. So keep that in mind. 29 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location We had a beach bungalow and were thrilled with our view of the lagoon and the view of the overwater rooms! It was excellent to be able to walk straight out and into low warm water to snorkel in! We did find however the meals and drinks were expensive so we ate out at other local restaurants within walking distance. 24 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great facility and great location Staff was great, food and amenities were on point and location to Vaitape and other activites was prime. Pool was very relaxing and hotel bar offered great view and friendly service. Easy access to free shuttle from other restaurants and shops. Nice place to swim and paddle board with reef break within visual field. Breakfast buffet was amazing with variety of healthy choices and favorites like creeps, waffle sticks and omelettes. Polynesian show hosted by hotel is perfect duration with many beautiful talented dancers. 12 November 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing Memory making trip! Ia Orana! Our trip was in celebration of our 33rd wedding anniversary, and both of our retirements. We were guests from Oct. 9 - 16 2013. Our stay exceeded our expectations 10 fold. The resort was beautiful; the location of the resort was wonderful, with easy access to the Island. From the moment we arrived at the airport in Bora Bora and were greeted by representatives of the hotel, we were treated royally! Upon arrival at the hotel, at 9:00 am,we were again greeted by wonderful people and service. Our rooms weren't quite ready and we were given access to a room in which we could change, and shower. We of course changed into our bathing suits and swam in the lagoon! Our room was ready in a short amount of time, and we were escorted to our over horizon bungalow, which was beautiful! After settling in, we went to the main area of the hotel and met with the Concierge, Hivianna . She was so helpful to us our whole stay at the resort. We booked the Moana Nui tour, and the helmet dive. She was so patient and helpful with any of our requests. We also made quite a few reservations for dinner with Hivianna, and she made them happily, and quickly! We had the breakfast package, and the food was always wonderful! Fifi and Vahine were our favorite servers, so happy and kind! And, actually, everyone at the restaurant provided excellent service. One of our favorite people at the resort was Victo, who greeted us at the dock of the hotel, handled our baggage, helped many times as we left for tours, and always had a smile, kind words, and quite a few good one liners! I wish I had written everyone's name down, as they all deserve kudos from us! We enjoyed snorkeling in the lagoon surrounding the bungalows. The coral reefs that they have constructed under the bungalows were teeming with life. They are also creating a coral garden in the lagoon, which I think is a wonderful thing to do, and fun to snorkel around. We explored the deeper area of the water near the bungalows, and there is a natural coral garden not too far (easy paddle by kayak) from the hotel. We had previously booked the all day Lagoonarium excursion which we recommend highly. We snorkeled with sharks and rays, boated to another beautiful deeper coral garden and snorkeled again. We were then boated to the Lagoonarium on one of the motus. It was a great experience. This excursion would be wonderful for beginner snorkelers and children as well. Max and Tomas were our wonderful guides. We then had a wonderful lunch, and then an hour or so of relaxation before leaving. Max and Tomas made this experience! The most memorable tour was the Moana Nui tour with Rapa! It was an all day event, with just Rapa and us! The 1st half on a 4x4 tour of the whole Island, with so much history imparted to us by Rapa. The 2nd half of the day began with an authentic Polynesian banquet for us; deep pit roast pig, chicken, veggies and fruit, and lobster to top it off. It was served to us on woven leaf plates, as we sat with our feet in the lagoon. HEAVEN! After lunch, we ventured by boat outside the coral reef in the open ocean, and snorkeled above lemon sharks and reef sharks. It was so beautiful. When we were ready, we moved back into the lagoon area, and snorkled with rays and sharks in yet another location. When we were ready, we took a boat tour of the rest of the Island, ending up in a beautiful coral garden. Again, we called the time. No rush ever on this tour. We highly recommend this excursion. Be sure to explore the village of Viatepe. There is a bus from the hotel twice a day, or you can take a taxi. We did both, and it was about the same cost. We WILL return to Le Moana again. The location was perfect, the amenities were wonderful, and the staff was gracious and so very helpful. The food was outstanding at the restaurants on site. We also had dinner at La Matiras, The Bounty, Fare Manuia, and Bloody Mary's. All were excellent. Be sure to make reservations with the concierge. All the restaurants picked you up and brought you back. Maruru ROA to Hivianna, Vahine, Fifi, Victo, and all the staff of the Intercontinental Le Moana for an incredible stay. And a special Maruru Roa to the manager, Laurence Levy, for developing such a wonderful staff, and for your kindnesses! 27 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing honeymoon experience! We recently returned from our honeymoon in Bora Bora, and had a fantastic experience at the Intercontinental Le Moana. The facilities themselves are beautiful, both the common areas and also our over-the-water bungalow. We chose this resort in part because it's on the main island, allowing for easy access to explore and go outside the resort for dinner, and also because it's smaller than some of the others which we hoped would provide a bit more privacy and better service. We were right about both! The location was great, right at Matira Point and just across the road from the beautiful Matira Beach. There are many great restaurants within easy walking distance as well, and plenty others accessible by free shuttle. What truly stood out though, was the amazing staff at the Le Moana! Everyone was incredibly kind and accommodating, always greeting you with a big smile, and very helpful in making plans and suggestions during our stay. And I mean everyone, from the staff at reception, concierge, bar, restaurant, housekeeping, activities... we felt very lucky to be so well taken care of! We did spend a day at the Intercontinental Thalasso to check out the spa, and the facilities and amenities there are incredible, but we felt the staff at Le Moana was far more customer service oriented. 24 October 2013
