Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome American Girl Experience This Hotel was great! Very nice and staff was wonderful! My daughter was so excited about the American Girl Extras your hotel throws in. Would recommend this place to anyone! 02 April 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Customer Service and comfortable room After a horrible stay at another hotel nearby, I stayed at the Intercontinential and the customer service and rooms were a breathe of fresh air. The front desk staff asked why I was staying and I told them of the situation at the other hotel. The staff went out of their way to make sure that I felt welcome and any concerns that I may have had with the other hotel were not an issue with my current stay. I was put into a gorgeous King room with a view of the city, looking towards the NBC tower and Trump. When I walked into the room it was bright and had calming music playing on the computer in the room. Everything was clean and modern and the bathroom had a big soaking tub plus stand up shower. I did not use the amentities but have ate at Eno, located in the hotel, previously and the wine bar is great! Check-out was quick and painless and I received a free Starbucks coffee. It was a great experience, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Chicago especially since you can't beat the location. 01 April 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stay Great hotel!!! Great location !! Excellent service. 31 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Magnificent I took my teenage girls up to Chicago for a couple night stay on the Magnificent Mile during spring break. We had a great time. The room was really nice, very clean and I felt really good staying there with my girls. This was my first time taking my girls on vacation by myself. I had a couple of mishaps in that I had called the hotel twice before we checked in with questions. The person answering the phone had a bit of an attitude and gave me no answers to my questions, but in the end everything worked out well. The hotel is lovely. We enjoyed sitting at the pool, it was really a pretty place to be. We were within walking distance of the train and all the shops along the Magnificent Mile. I would definitely stay there again. 31 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Special Girls' trip I took my girls to Chicago to spend time with friends and to visit the American Girl store. The American Girl Package was perfect for our get away!! My daughters and I had a fabulous time, and we cannot wait to return. 30 March 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Remodel and reservation mess I have stayed at this hotel in the past and had a memorable time. It has a great location on Michigan Ave. I also enjoyed the "historic" feel with the vintage swimming pool during that visit. I was looking forward to a stay during a business trip in March 2013 and made reservations months ahead. The hotel management cancelled my reservation for renovations and contacted the housing bureau of my conference that I should make other arrangements. I was notified by email which I didn't open in time. I arrived at the front desk and a helpful gentleman created a new reservation for me so I could check in for 4 nights. The reservation manager corrected this "action" after I had unpacked. I was informed that my deposit for the first night was no longer applied to my stay and that I was supposed to move to another hotel. I eventually recovered the deposit after multiple conversations and a walk across the Chicago River to the other hotel's front desk. My stay at the Intercontinental was pleasant in spite of this. The location remains excellent, room comfortable (but dark) and amenities helpful. Other people who attended my conference were able to secure a better rate and less fuss. Wait to stay here until the hotel's remodeling project is complete and management better coordinates communications with their front desk staff. 30 March 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rooms problems The only thing that we did not like was we found a pair of dirty christmas socks in our room by the bed and our television remote did not work the whole time we stayed. But other than that it was an alright stay. Thanks 29 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Platinum Ambassador point of view I have visted this hotel in the past as Platinum member, but this was my first time as a Platinum Ambassador. This stay was for March 23-25. For those of you that unfamiliar with IHG and their loyality program here is quick look at it. For •Guaranteed room upgrade •Fresh fruit upon arrival •Mineral water in room, replenished daily •In-room gift •Single-room rate for double occupancy •Extended checkout—up to 4pm •Dedicated Ambassador check-in area •Complimentary pay-TV film per stay •Complimentary newspaper, delivered daily •Instant checkout plus a few other perks. When checking in Ambassador members have their own check in person along with 2 nice leather chairs. The check in process went without any problems. I was given 2 bottles of water and also offered coffee or tea. Our room was not ready, but that was expected as we got to the hotel around 11 a.m. We were allowed to check our bags and start our day in Chicago. A couple of hours later I got a phone call informing me that our upgraded room was available. I was offered a late check out at the time of check in. Nice to know that I wouldn't have to waste my time on monday asking for a late check out. The room over looked Michigan Ave. which was really nice. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom had a tub and seperate glass shower. Plenty of room at the sink. We had 2 double beds which we were not the most comfortable beds. That was really the only down side of the room itself. The next day I had to call down for our fruit, the in-room gift, and our delivered newpaper as none of these items had ever arrived. The fresh fruit was good plus we got a box a Intercontinental chocolates. I was told that the newpapers are not delivered on weekends. I found that strange as the people next door to us had their paper delivered sitting in front of their door, Around 11 p.m. I called down to the desk and requested 3 towels be delivered to our room before morning (we had 4 people in our room). At 8 am I had to go to the desk and again ask for the towels. This time they did deliver the requested towels. We never did get our mineral water replaced daily as advertised. We did watch one pay movie, but when I got my bill for express check out I had been charged for the movie. I had to stop at the Ambassador counter and have it removed. This being Monday morning I did not get a newspaper delivered as advertised. At this point I wasn't even going to mention it to the staff. This hotel rocks when it comes to architecture. The pool alone is worth staying here. Take your time and walk the halls and stairs on the Tower side. I love looking at the beauty of this hotel. My advice to management would be this...... People pay $200 a year to be part of your loyality program. The program sells itself on several small perks. You have to provide those perks in order to retain your loyal customers. Had I become an Ambassador for any other reason than for paying $200 I wouldn't be as upset for missing out on the above mentioned items. Your team missed the mark this weekend on the Ambassador side. As far as the hotel itself goes I love this place and I would recommend it to anyone staying in Chicago. 26 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by No Dresser The first thing I do when arriving is to unpack my suitcase. To my surprize there was no dresser in the room. I had to hang things I normally fold and leave others in my suitcase. If my stay had been more then two nights I would have been very annoyed. 25 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, friendly staff Stayed here for a business conference. Room was very clean. Great location on the mile. Bathroom was a bit to be desired in the historical wing of the hotel. Hate pedestal sinks in a hotel bathroom. Needed another towel rod as one isn't enough. Water pressure was fantastic tho so could look past what I didn't like about the bathroom. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Love the front desk area with the "real time" footage of Michigan avenue. 23 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room Temperature Room was too hot even though I turned the thermostat down 22 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great service oor marketing Nice property with good service.. nice room TV didn't work but was fixed promptly late by engineer.. HoweveR the poor attempt to advertise a great rate then in really small print say 50.00 for parking and you have to get it yourself.. Is really a poor attempt to makeup for great rate isn't it??.. I am usually pretty savvy about travel costs and you got me on that one however will prob never stay at your place again for that reason.. 22 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location Great Location, beautiful hotel, very friendly service. Tried to charge for 2 beverages from refrigerator that I did not consume. Front desk also stated that there was no shuttle service to O'hare, which I learned later was incorrect. Very memorable business/pleasure stay. I recommend it. 22 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good location Location was superb. very comfortable & inviting. Wife and I brought our young son (3) with and the pool was not suitable for him. Only other issue was the mini bar was at his level and he kept taking stuff out, need a lock on the door! 21 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by friendly staff, clean hotel and comfortable room I have been to Chicago four or five times for various conferences and this hotel is right up there with the rest. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience!! 21 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Customer service issues The hotel itself is beautiful and has a lot of history. The room was comfortable and everything was clean. I had problems in a couple of areas. After checking in, I checked the various amenities in my room. Missing was a blow drier. I also went through the information about the hotel. Since they have gone "green", you have to access most hotel information via a menu on the TV. I looked everywhere for a room service menu on the on-screen guides and in the drawers in the room. The printed breakfast menu stated you can access the full menu by going to HCN. What the heck was HCN? Couldn't find it. I went downstairs to the concierge desk and asked if someone could bring me a blow drier & a room service menu. 3 hours later, no one had arrived with either. I finally called down to housekeeping & asked for a blow drier again. An hour after that I had to call again. Finally about 10 minutes later I had the drier. I never did find a room service menu. I ate in the Michael Jordan restaurant in the hotel and, unfortunately, it left me unimpressed. I like the hotel but if you don't look like you have a lot of money to spend, I don't think they're really interested in helping you. 21 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Elegance, Comfort, Quiet and Location Perfect accomodations along Magnificent Mile. Ambiance of hotel is outstanding. Rooms are spacious with wonderful beds and bedding. Location is excellent with short walks to shopping and culture. Staff bends over backwards to please. 21 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Slowest Elevators We were supposed to have two queen beds and only had one. Elevators were also super slow. 20 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and great location We recently spent 3 memorable nights at Chicago's Intercontinental Hotel on Michigan Ave. Our room was on the 22 floor and enjoyed a great view looking North on Michigan Ave. Check in was a breeze and all personel treated us great. Will the door man was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Hotel has a great location and we plan on coming back soon. 18 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff , great location As a frequent guest , I like the recognition from the staff . The location is excellent . Classic hotel . Pool is a major asset . 18 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ah, Chicago Our five night stay was fine. Clean room, quiet. Only issue was the elevators. Only one working on Saturday night. Waited in line 15 minutes without a single comment from staff for the delay. Realized that once we got to our room, we wouldn't be able to get back down promptly and get to our dinner reservation on time. Unable to clean up after a very long day and had to check my briefcase which was a pain because I didn't have a purse. Probably wouldn't have cared so much if there had been an employee around to keep order and explain the delay. 18 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but with some glitches the good - attentive, friendly staff, Fabulous location. the OK - room is smallish, with no drawers for your clothing. Nice bathroom with great shower. Heard baby crying in the next room. The unacceptable - 15.00 a day for the slower speed internet. And my Verizon hot spot had no signal, so I couldn't use that either. And to add insult to injury a hotel computer in the room that you can pay to use with a screen that went on in the middle of the night filled with advertisements. 16 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice and well situated hotel I stayed here on 6 & 7 May 2013, I got a room in the historic tower which had not undergone any refurbishment recently, I had booked a deluxe room that I thought was recently refurbished. Even so the room was very nice and the bed comfortable. There was a fully stocked mini bar but nothing to drink out of, I had to ask at reception and was asked what sort and how many glasses I wanted, not sure why they couldn't just put what should have been there to drink the wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks. The next day the bar was not replenished and the used glasses not replaced. I would also have expected ceramic cups for tea and coffee at this standard of hotel. There were no laundry sheets and bags, again I reported to reception but none were put in the room so I didn't have any clothes cleaned. The bathroom was very tired and the taps were worn and did not work well. There was an extra charge for wireless Internet, I had stopped at a Holiday Inn Express the previous nights where it was free, this is the same hotel group. Apart from this I enjoyed the stay but these things should be addressed at what is a 5 star hotel. 13 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ambassador level, but I had to buy my own water at the gift shop Maybe this is an issue with the Holiday Inn computers, but I joined the Ambassador program in February but the system doesn't recognize it. Even when I told the staff I was an ambassador level, they acted kind of skeptical. In NYC, I was called later and they brought water and some fruit to the room, but in Chicago they never did even that. I got charged for the internet and the gym and spent $5 on water in the gift shop. When I checked out, the staff member was apologetic and took the gym and internet charges off my bill, so that was nice. Still, I kind of expected more... The gym was nice and the pool looked lovely. Nice location. 12 March 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed When we checked in we were told we would love our room. The room had a wonderful view of the city, but the water out of every facet was brown, including the shower. We had to allow the water to run for an extended period of time, but that did not resolve the issue. We relayed to issue to the front desk prior to leaving for our evening outing. The water was better, but not truly clear. The hotel was kind enough not to charge us for the bottled water we used to brush our teeth. We hope that should we stay at the hotel again, the room we are in will be in better order. 11 March 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by New Room and Old Problems I stayed in your property March 2-4, 2013. I was upgraded to a Jr. Suite as I am a Platinum Ambassador. The desk clerk, who was the best, advised that the room was renovated just one week prior to my arrival. The room size was very nice, but the "new" renovations were more IKEA that luxurious. The amenities lacked such typical ite,s as q-tips, emobry boards, and other non-lotion items. There was no hair dryer in the room, which was brough after calling housekeeping. The mini-bar, recently converted to "touch sensitive", had wines and liquors, but no tumblers or stemmed glasses. These may seem trivial, but I would expect more from an Intercontinental property. Also, there was only one lift (our of four) working in the new wing on Saturday, the opening day of a major trade show in Chicago. Five to tem minute waits were typical. I have stayed at this property for the past several years, but do not plan to return. 11 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice but pricey :-) Room was awesome, clean, and the bed was comfortable corner room 15th. floor with beautiful view of the city. Starbucks in the lobby was awesome too. Room service was prompt valet attendant was very helpful giving direction exiting out of the city. :-( charged 40 bucks more for my two 18 year old daughters each night . seven Big ones for 2 nights and that don't include valet parking. questioned front desk about extra charges they weren't to knowledgeable. 09 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by average experience room did not have an ironing board so I called for one. It took 2 calls and more than an hour to get one. only one elevator was working so it took a long time to get one. went to the directory of services to look up info and it was empty - binder with nothing in the binder. hard to control the heat - was very warm by the entrance but cool in the area with the beds. difficulty printing boarding passes in the lobby got wrong directions to the correct tower - got mis-directed to area under construction. 08 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent hospitality all the way around The sign of a good company is one that that does what you expect but the sign of a great company is one that exceeds your expectation. Upon my arrival I inquired about the gym and found out is was in another part of the building (I was placed in the newer structure). When arriving to my room the heater was making all sorts of noise so I called downstairs for service. When the maintenance crew arrived they discovered nothing could be done and told me they would go down to the lobby and have me moved to another room and bring back the key (I thought this was a nice touch). However I received a call from the lobby and was informed that they would move me to the older part of the hotel which in my mind I thought older was not better. This was soon proved to be wrong because (Malcome, I believe I got the name right) informed me that I would not be dissapointed and it was right above the gym. He also went on to explain that I would be able to use the gym free along with the internet ( I knew this was part of the service plan I had but it was still enjoyable to hear). Upon entering the room I was pleasantly surprised with the room and it was more then I hoped for and offered more space then the previous room. My 5 night stay was fantastic and the hotel staff is one of the better ones I have seen not only answering all my questions but exceeding all expectation. I travel 30+ weeks out of each year and stay at a variety of hotels and I would rate this hotel in my fab. 5 list of all time. Thanks for the wonderful stay. 06 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay! This location is ideally located for so many activities in the city. The rooms are very nice and the service is stellar. 05 March 2013
