Chicago Magnificent Mile

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 969 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Chicago Please clean and replace the flags outside of the hotel. The Lobby was too hectic and cold. The pool was beautiful. The hallways look dated. 22 February 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room Service Limitations This hotel is fine generally. Good location, adequate rooms. Room Service dining is inadequate and not at the same level as the hotel. In several stays in the past year, I found the Room Service menu very limited and without exception every item ordered was grossly over-salted. 19 February 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by High price, low quality Sunday Buffet Although the room, cleanliness, amenities and overall property were very good, the memory was erased by an over priced, limited selection, poor quality Sunday Buffet. Of particular note were the pancakes and french toast. Both had obviousely been out in the warming server too long. They were both basicly inedible. The other hot selections were of fair quality and presentation, but definately far below the expectations that I would have for an Inter Continental property. Although we plan on spending future weekends there, we will definately be more cautious by viewing the Buffet prior to handing over our money. 18 February 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean rooms and excellent customer service I have been coming to Chicago for my birthday for the past 15 years, and after trying various other hotels in the area, I now ONLY stay at the Intercontinental - Chicago! The primary reason I keep coming back is due to the FANTASTIC AND EXCELLENT service that every single one of your employees provide to me! Everyone is so knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, courteous, and so attentive!! Everyone! From the front desk, the door men, the bell hops, the housekeepers, the phone operators, the room service personnel.....everyone is TERRIFC! I remember one door man in particular, Will, and he met us each day with a smile, and a warm greeting and he even remembered my name! The rooms are clean and neat, and all our needs were met. The entire hotel just rings with professionalism, coupled with a warm charm and an elegant grace. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends and family based primarily on the kindness of the staff, but the hotel also is located in a perfect spot for shopping, dining and sight-seeing. Please, tell your staff - all of them - thank you and keep up the great attitude toward excellent customer service as their number one priority!! Well done! 16 February 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable Experience The service at this hotel was exceptional. I was very impressed by all the employees that I encountered while staying at the hotel. When I arrived in my room, I received a phone call from the front desk asking me if there was anything that I needed. This made me feel welcomed which is something I haven't always experienced at other hotels. The front desk staff was extremely professional and helped us with any questions we had relating to the city. They had great recommendations for food, shopping, and other activities. One issue I did have was that the people staying next door to us were very loud early in the morning and made it difficult to sleep. Other than that minor setback, I will definitely be staying at this hotel in the near future and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay at a hotel with a great location and an enjoyable stay. Thank you!! 10 February 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Room and comfort expensive but good staff and service. knowledgeable staff and good location Elevators take forever though 09 February 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average at best Having stayed at a number of Chicago hotels, especially in the Streeterville/Michigan Ave. area, I have to say this hotel was average at best. Our room was one with adjoining doors and one of the doors had a 3/4" gap at the bottom. Needless to say, we were privy to sounds/comments in the adjacent room. We were there during a snap of cold weather but even with the temp hovering around zero outside, I wouldn't have expected frost on the inside of our window sill. But there was. Finally, the room was smaller than most of the rooms we have stayed in around that same location for the same price or less. The staff was very good and the breakfasts at the hotel were also excellent. Afraid there are too many good hotels in Chicago for me to recommend this one. 07 February 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location Nice large comfortable room, wonderful pool and great location. Plus was the 2:00 pm check out. 07 February 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location but you pay for fitness club Great location right on Magnificent Mile near all the shopping. Also across the street from one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago - Purple Pig. Very comfortable and classy. Two items to note: rooms in the newer tower are small (at least mine was) and there is a charge to use the (small) fitness club. The pool (as I understand) is free. Not everyone uses the fitness club but if you do expect to pay (this is the first IHG property I have had to pay for the fitness club for). 06 February 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, attentive staff. First time at an Intercontinental. Comfortable bed, and a highly professional staff. Myself and all of my colleagues were upgraded on check - in. I had locked my key in my room at 5 am and as I arrived on my floor I waited a mere 2 minutes for security to regain access to my room. Having a Starbucks on location was very convenient. Polite and knowledgeable Doorman. 04 February 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Slept in a Refrigerator OK, I realize Chicago in January should be cold, but NOT our hotel room. The curtains actually moved from the wind outside the windows. It was so cold in our room that the heat never shut off the entire time we were there. And parking $57! When I made the reservation I was told it would be $44. It's not the amount, so much as being told by a hotel employee the wrong amount. Since when do you have to pay for wireless internet? $17.95??? As a Priority Club Gold member I am usually offered an amenity upon arrival...bottle of water, discount in the restaurant, etc. At this property I was given a "free" late check out. And the newspaper never showed up that the desk attendant offered upon check in. Next time we will select another hotel...there are plenty to choose from! 02 February 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Average accommodations at above average prices My first room was less then what I would expect for the price. Then when the furnace broke and couldn't be fixed I had to change rooms. This was a big inconvenience but they did upgrade me to a little bit nicer room, which was a better value. The cost of $57.95 per day to park was a bit high. I know there are better values in the city, I am not likely to ever stay here again. I am a seasoned traveler staying in motel/hotels over 200 nights per year. 01 February 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love the pool! Centrally located and a must just for the great historic pool 31 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, and very comfortable room. Visiting Chicago for a conference, I stayed for one night. The service was excellent from the time I called to make the reservation until getting in the cab to go back to the airport. Very friendly staff, and very comfortable room. I would recommend this location.- 29 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by brunch-great if i am in chicago i will come back. it was closer nicer & i am sorry i have not used this hotel in the past. 29 January 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad stay poor service I have been staying at the Intercontinental Chicago for nearly 20 years. This stay was certainly not what I'm used to at this location. Don't know if I'll stay here again. Poor Customer Service and no concern by staff to take care of longtime patron with supreme Intercontinental Hotels status who notifies staff of room concerns. I've had better Customer Service @ Holiday Inn Express at less than half the price. The room was better appointed as well. 28 January 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by good location but parking... enjoyed good location at Michigan ave. and roomy junior suite at reasonable price. cons are old and loud heater in the room, busy and very small lobby, and expensive and time consuming, inconvenient valet parking... 26 January 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Intercontinental, the new airline You know how when you take a plane these days, they advertise their low low fare, and then charge you to check a bag, charge you for an aisle seat, charge you for a stale sandwich, etc. etc. etc. Well, that is apparently the new business model for Intercontinental Hotels. The hotel is in a great location, the food in the two restaurants I visited was excellent, the service was great, but I just felt used by all the extra, and I thought very high, charges added on. $18/day for Internet connection? The very next night I stayed in a two-bit motel in Beloit WI and got free Internet. $57/day for parking? The add ons just kept adding up until I felt like a sucker. I probably will look elsewhere next time I visit Chicago 25 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceedingly Friendly Staff From the time we arrived for our short 2 night stay, my daughter and I were greeted by helpful staff at the front desk and concierge desk. We were given very helpful advice about restaurants and services in the area, as well as directions to get where we needed to go. The front desk staff was not only helpful in a professional manner, but were eager to converse with me about things we shared as interests such as sports and food. Mind you, none of this conversation took place while anyone was waiting behind me to be served. I'll absolutely return to your hotel. Service is what it's all about. You get an A+! 25 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful!! From the moment we walked in the door the staff was wonderful - Thank you for a fabulous weekend! 24 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Location Ive been staying at this location for over 10 years.. It is centrally located in the heart of the city... I love the old world charm of this hotel and the friendly staff.. I always feel like I'm coming home to a famialr place which is odd for a big city. I like the old section as much as the new section.. 22 January 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Cool hotel, tired room The room in the old tower was tired and could have used a dresser. The meeting rooms were spectatular as was the pool and fitness center. 21 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Higly Recommend!! I had an amazing stay at the hotel in Jan 2013!!! I was staying there for a girls weekend with my best friend.I stay at hotels about 200 nights a year and this was such a great stay. The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful, and the rooms were comfortable, clean, and tasteful. I would highly recommend this hotel, and I will look forward to staying at this hotel again! This is my new standard for the Intercontinental Brand :) 21 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loved the way staff treated each other We were greeeted by Will with a wonderful welcome, smile, and suggestions. We had arrived too early to check in so after we ate, walked some of the Magnificient Mile and mall, we hung out a bit at the hotel and observed sincere and caring interactions among the staff. I work for a fabulous health care system in St. Paul, MN and we strive to provide Best Care Best Experience to our patients and visitors, and a commitment to Respect each other; I felt that the staff at Intercontinental Chicago demonstrated respect and kindness to each other and to the customers; it was very refreshing to observe in another industry. The accommodations were nice, clean, comfortable and quiet, we were only there one night so did not take advantage of all the services offered. 16 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly Recommended My husband and I stayed here as part of a birthday celebration and had a wonderful time. The rooms are large and spacious, the staff is very friendly. The restaurant at the hotel has an amazing bar that makes the best dirty martini. Stay here on your trip into Chicago and you will not regret it! 15 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Absolutely amazing service! From the doorman Will, to the Ambassador check-in person (sorry, I forgot her name..Christina??), to the concierge Robert, we had a fabulous time, and truly superior service. I am road warrior, and I know good service, and this property excelled. Every employee greeted us with a smile, and made pur 4 year old granddaughter, and dog, VERY welcome. The hotel itself oozes with old school class, and is a historical gem. Even the restaurant was superior in food and service, a rarity. Other hotels should take a lesson. 15 January 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Non working keys/nighttime aalrms Checked in Thursday night. By Friday keys were not working in door. Got them rekeyed. Still didn't work. Dropped them off Sat. morning with suggestion that it was door lock, not keys. Assured Sat. afternoon on our return that engineering had "fixed the door". Sunday morning - in soaking wet swim suits, had to call security from phone by elevator because ? Keys not working! The coupon for three free cups of coffee did not make up for the hassle. And, at 4am on Sunday, an alarm in a closet across the hall from our room starts beeping. We call the front desk. They send up security who managed to get it from a beep-beep-beep to a beeeeeeeeeep!!!!!!!! Engineering comes up and manages to eventually get it off. A totally unpleasant experience that will not be repeated. 15 January 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by My first visit to Chicago!!! This was a great vacation. The hotel is a little pricey for not really having many things to do with in the hotel. It was Christmas time so it was absolutley gorgeous. The hotel is in the middle of everything which was nice. Valet is extremely expensive but it was everywhere in Downtown. I loved staying here but would probably stay somewhere else for the same price with many more things to do within the hotel. Oh and the cleaning people woke us up every morning which was annoying, we couldn't find the do not disturb sign! 11 January 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by New years stay Very disappointed in the Hotel and room, complete waste of points! We are Platinum members and was not recognized for that. There were no upgrades and the room was very very small and dusty and the beds were to hard. The only plus/wow factor was the location but really we went for the Winter Fest at the Pier and fireworks so not a big deal. I was very grossed out at the carpet throughout the facility and dirty glasses stayed on the hallway floor next to our room while we were their and they weren't ours (so no one even vacuumed),. Yes the pool is neat to go look at but again nasty carpet and stadium seating gross, I apologized to our 7 year old for not swimming but was just grossed out. Just not at all impressed, there are many other hotels that I would spend $$ to stay in downtown and this is not one of them. save your $'s or points and look for another. We love Chicago and visit/play often but will not be visiting this hotel on our next stay! 10 January 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stay Award stay in Jan. 2013. Would book in the future without hesitiation. Prime location, pleasant and professional service, clean and spacious room. Don't miss Michael Jordan's steakhouse. 09 January 2013
