Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and great location We recently spent 3 memorable nights at Chicago's Intercontinental Hotel on Michigan Ave. Our room was on the 22 floor and enjoyed a great view looking North on Michigan Ave. Check in was a breeze and all personel treated us great. Will the door man was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Hotel has a great location and we plan on coming back soon. 18 March 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ah, Chicago Our five night stay was fine. Clean room, quiet. Only issue was the elevators. Only one working on Saturday night. Waited in line 15 minutes without a single comment from staff for the delay. Realized that once we got to our room, we wouldn't be able to get back down promptly and get to our dinner reservation on time. Unable to clean up after a very long day and had to check my briefcase which was a pain because I didn't have a purse. Probably wouldn't have cared so much if there had been an employee around to keep order and explain the delay. 18 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but with some glitches the good - attentive, friendly staff, Fabulous location. the OK - room is smallish, with no drawers for your clothing. Nice bathroom with great shower. Heard baby crying in the next room. The unacceptable - 15.00 a day for the slower speed internet. And my Verizon hot spot had no signal, so I couldn't use that either. And to add insult to injury a hotel computer in the room that you can pay to use with a screen that went on in the middle of the night filled with advertisements. 16 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice and well situated hotel I stayed here on 6 & 7 May 2013, I got a room in the historic tower which had not undergone any refurbishment recently, I had booked a deluxe room that I thought was recently refurbished. Even so the room was very nice and the bed comfortable. There was a fully stocked mini bar but nothing to drink out of, I had to ask at reception and was asked what sort and how many glasses I wanted, not sure why they couldn't just put what should have been there to drink the wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks. The next day the bar was not replenished and the used glasses not replaced. I would also have expected ceramic cups for tea and coffee at this standard of hotel. There were no laundry sheets and bags, again I reported to reception but none were put in the room so I didn't have any clothes cleaned. The bathroom was very tired and the taps were worn and did not work well. There was an extra charge for wireless Internet, I had stopped at a Holiday Inn Express the previous nights where it was free, this is the same hotel group. Apart from this I enjoyed the stay but these things should be addressed at what is a 5 star hotel. 13 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ambassador level, but I had to buy my own water at the gift shop Maybe this is an issue with the Holiday Inn computers, but I joined the Ambassador program in February but the system doesn't recognize it. Even when I told the staff I was an ambassador level, they acted kind of skeptical. In NYC, I was called later and they brought water and some fruit to the room, but in Chicago they never did even that. I got charged for the internet and the gym and spent $5 on water in the gift shop. When I checked out, the staff member was apologetic and took the gym and internet charges off my bill, so that was nice. Still, I kind of expected more... The gym was nice and the pool looked lovely. The room had a wonderful view of the city, but the water out of every facet was brown, including the shower. We had to allow the water to run for an extended period of time, but that did not resolve the issue. We relayed to issue to the front desk prior to leaving for our evening outing. The water was better, but not truly clear. The hotel was kind enough not to charge us for the bottled water we used to brush our teeth. We hope that should we stay at the hotel again, the room we are in will be in better order. 11 March 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by New Room and Old Problems I stayed in your property March 2-4, 2013. I was upgraded to a Jr. Suite as I am a Platinum Ambassador. The desk clerk, who was the best, advised that the room was renovated just one week prior to my arrival. The room size was very nice, but the "new" renovations were more IKEA that luxurious. The amenities lacked such typical ite,s as q-tips, emobry boards, and other non-lotion items. There was no hair dryer in the room, which was brough after calling housekeeping. The mini-bar, recently converted to "touch sensitive", had wines and liquors, but no tumblers or stemmed glasses. These may seem trivial, but I would expect more from an Intercontinental property. Also, there was only one lift (our of four) working in the new wing on Saturday, the opening day of a major trade show in Chicago. Five to tem minute waits were typical. I have stayed at this property for the past several years, but do not plan to return. 11 March 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice but pricey :-) Room was awesome, clean, and the bed was comfortable corner room 15th. floor with beautiful view of the city. Starbucks in the lobby was awesome too. Room service was prompt valet attendant was very helpful giving direction exiting out of the city. :-( charged 40 bucks more for my two 18 year old daughters each night . seven Big ones for 2 nights and that don't include valet parking. questioned front desk about extra charges they weren't to knowledgeable. 09 March 2013

It took 2 calls and more than an hour to get one. only one elevator was working so it took a long time to get one. went to the directory of services to look up info and it was empty - binder with nothing in the binder. hard to control the heat - was very warm by the entrance but cool in the area with the beds. difficulty printing boarding passes in the lobby got wrong directions to the correct tower - got mis-directed to area under construction. 08 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent hospitality all the way around The sign of a good company is one that that does what you expect but the sign of a great company is one that exceeds your expectation. Upon my arrival I inquired about the gym and found out is was in another part of the building (I was placed in the newer structure). When arriving to my room the heater was making all sorts of noise so I called downstairs for service. When the maintenance crew arrived they discovered nothing could be done and told me they would go down to the lobby and have me moved to another room and bring back the key (I thought this was a nice touch). However I received a call from the lobby and was informed that they would move me to the older part of the hotel which in my mind I thought older was not better. This was soon proved to be wrong because (Malcome, I believe I got the name right) informed me that I would not be dissapointed and it was right above the gym. He also went on to explain that I would be able to use the gym free along with the internet ( I knew this was part of the service plan I had but it was still enjoyable to hear). Upon entering the room I was pleasantly surprised with the room and it was more then I hoped for and offered more space then the previous room. My 5 night stay was fantastic and the hotel staff is one of the better ones I have seen not only answering all my questions but exceeding all expectation. I travel 30+ weeks out of each year and stay at a variety of hotels and I would rate this hotel in my fab. 5 list of all time. Thanks for the wonderful stay. 06 March 2013

But i cannot believe they charge for the fitness center. $16 per stay per person or $12 per use is crazy. But i love the location, the rooms are great, so i'll still keep coming! 01 March 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful hotel Besides issues with not getting a refrigerator, which I requested days before check in plus I'm a Priority Club member, getting locked out of my room with no ID, and the concierge giving incorrect directions to the supermarket, my experience was great at this hotel! I stayed here a year ago and my experience a year ago was not a good one. The staff customer service, friendliness, and willingness to help has GREATLY increased in the last year. My favorite thing about the hotel, besides the beautiful and prime location, is the pool and gym facility. It is huge, beautiful, and you are given the option of 24/7 access for an extra charge. But some charges at the hotel are ridiculous, such as $30 to empty your mini bar and a $6 charge to deliver an empty bowl to your room. But nonetheless, the stay at the Intercontinental is quite memorable. I look forward to coming back. :) 26 February 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by one of my top five hotels on the US I travel a lot for work and stay at many different hotels around the country. The Intercontinental in Chicago is one of my favorite. If possible do stay at the Historic Tower for a special treat. The location could not be better and don't forget your swimming gear to enjoy a fascinating swimming pool. 24 February 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome! The Intercontinenral Hotel is the place to stay! I was traveling with my family, two adults and two children, ages 7 and 14. Everything was delightful and everyone was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast is amazing from the buffet to the orange juice. I so appreciated the waiter remembering us from the previous morning. The front desk staff arranged lunch reservations as well as gave wonderful advice about when to arrive at the Shedd Aquarium. He also told us where to go for a wonderful photo of the Chicago skyline. A favorite part of our stay was the pool. The POOL is AMAZING! We arrived in Chicago five days aftter a blizzard. How wonderful to shed our winter layers of clothing and swim around in the pool! My sons could not have been happier! I will surely stay at the Intercontinenral on my next visit to Chicago! 24 February 2013

In several stays in the past year, I found the Room Service menu very limited and without exception every item ordered was grossly over-salted. 19 February 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by High price, low quality Sunday Buffet Although the room, cleanliness, amenities and overall property were very good, the memory was erased by an over priced, limited selection, poor quality Sunday Buffet. Of particular note were the pancakes and french toast. Both had obviousely been out in the warming server too long. They were both basicly inedible. The other hot selections were of fair quality and presentation, but definately far below the expectations that I would have for an Inter Continental property. Although we plan on spending future weekends there, we will definately be more cautious by viewing the Buffet prior to handing over our money. 18 February 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean rooms and excellent customer service I have been coming to Chicago for my birthday for the past 15 years, and after trying various other hotels in the area, I now ONLY stay at the Intercontinental - Chicago! The primary reason I keep coming back is due to the FANTASTIC AND EXCELLENT service that every single one of your employees provide to me! Everyone is so knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, courteous, and so attentive!! Everyone! From the front desk, the door men, the bell hops, the housekeepers, the phone operators, the room service personnel.....everyone is TERRIFC! I remember one door man in particular, Will, and he met us each day with a smile, and a warm greeting and he even remembered my name! The rooms are clean and neat, and all our needs were met. The entire hotel just rings with professionalism, coupled with a warm charm and an elegant grace. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends and family based primarily on the kindness of the staff, but the hotel also is located in a perfect spot for shopping, dining and sight-seeing. Please, tell your staff - all of them - thank you and keep up the great attitude toward excellent customer service as their number one priority!! Well done! 16 February 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable Experience The service at this hotel was exceptional. I was very impressed by all the employees that I encountered while staying at the hotel. When I arrived in my room, I received a phone call from the front desk asking me if there was anything that I needed. This made me feel welcomed which is something I haven't always experienced at other hotels. The front desk staff was extremely professional and helped us with any questions we had relating to the city. They had great recommendations for food, shopping, and other activities. One issue I did have was that the people staying next door to us were very loud early in the morning and made it difficult to sleep. Other than that minor setback, I will definitely be staying at this hotel in the near future and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay at a hotel with a great location and an enjoyable stay. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average at best Having stayed at a number of Chicago hotels, especially in the Streeterville/Michigan Ave. area, I have to say this hotel was average at best. Our room was one with adjoining doors and one of the doors had a 3/4" gap at the bottom. Needless to say, we were privy to sounds/comments in the adjacent room. We were there during a snap of cold weather but even with the temp hovering around zero outside, I wouldn't have expected frost on the inside of our window sill. But there was. Finally, the room was smaller than most of the rooms we have stayed in around that same location for the same price or less. The staff was very good and the breakfasts at the hotel were also excellent. Afraid there are too many good hotels in Chicago for me to recommend this one. 07 February 2013
