Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NIce hotel and front desk staff. Cleaning people, not as much. This hotel is nice, clean and conveniently located. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, as were the restaurant staff. The food was what you expect from any hotel. The room was clean and had a nice view, but a little small for the price. Parking, as everywhere in San Francisco, is expensive. My biggest complaint is that the ladies who clean the room came into the room two of the four mornings while we were in the room. Once, they knocked, and while we were saying we were in the room, they came in anyway, then apologized and left. One time, they just opened the door and came in. They did not clean very well, either. There were things left that were not moved or cleaned, spots on the counter that were never touched. Used drinking glasses, some rinsed and sitting by the sink, as well as some with a bit of liquid still in them, were not removed the entire stay. I could hear them cleaning other rooms while talking on their cell phones for quite some time. With the exception of the cleaning crew, the hotel was nice. I would look at other options, but would consider staying here again. September 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel spoiled by staff attitude and lack of service The above says it all if possible avoid. Bad experience at check in even though we booked well in advance ou party was split across three floors and we only needed three rooms. Even though it was one booking ref that was supposed to be prepaid at time of booking and this was confirmed they had no record of this and preceded to take 3 separate payments all with a security deposit. Lady at reception grasp of English was at best limited. Rate booked included breakfast but beware this is Buffett only not menu so you end up paying more than you would off of the menu on the day. Even worse was the fact that at time of booking and checking they knew that our party would be leaving at 6:30 on the final day but the breakfast doesn't start until 6:30 didn't stop them taking the money. We only found out on the final day when we went down to eat. Experience was not much better on checkout stuffed a bill under the door early but this was not a bill only an advice you still had to check out it turns out that even though they take your money at time of booking or in our case checking and it is shown as taken on bank statement they say that it is only held and that they perform a final callulation when you leave September 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ok but not outstanding We stayed in San Francisco-Golden Gateway Holiday Inn one month ago for our honeymoon. It was the first stop in our trip around the world. We booked a Corner Bay View Room in order to have something special for our special vacation. The room was great. The breakfast was fine. The service at the breakfast was good. But it was bad at the reception. When we had questions, they were answered unfriendly or bored, or sometimes the answer was wrong or not helpful (we had only typical questions asked by tourists). Furthermore, there was not even the smallest extra for us honeymooners - a little chocolate on the pillow with a compliments card would have been enough, does not cost a lot and does not take long time, there was not even a "happy honeymoon" at the welcome desk... So all in all the experience was ok, but not outstanding. September 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great spot to stay! I stayed here by myself to attend a 2 day workshop held at the hotel. As a woman I felt completely comfortable and safe here. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The room has a bit of a spartan and modern feel, but everything was extremely comfortable. The room looked out toward the ocean(in the distance), and I could also see the bay. The staff was personable and helpful. My requests for a quiet and higher room were accommodated, as was my request to have later check-out on my last day. One important feature was that I felt safe and relaxed the entire visit. This was an extremely convenient site for me, due to the conference I attended, but if visitors wanted to be right downtown they might be disappointed. Still, it is centrally located for Golden Gate Park, downtown the Embarcadero, and Fisherman's Wharf, and the cable car line runs adjacent to the hotel. I would recommend this to any visitor. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hotel REALLY enjoyed our stay! Room was very clean, and had modern amenities. Bed was very comfortable! Hotel staff were very helpful upon check-in. Asked if it was possible to upgrade from 2 double beds to a Queen, and we were told no problem. Upon entering the suite were very nicely surprised with a King size bed (we really appreciated it....thank you!). Hotel is very close to cable cars, street cars, and bus routes. No problem getting around, as front desk kindly provided us with a map showing all the bus routes, and hotel gift shop recommended a 3 day bus pass (which we bought for $22 each). We were only there for 3 days, so it was perfect! Front desk also provided us with a list of local restaurants, which was very helpful! All in all, a wonderful stay! Would highly recommend this hotel, and would of course stay again! September 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service!! All of the staff at this hotel have been wonderful and accommodating. Location is great. Just please get a better work out room! Business travelers need to work out!! September 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by America's Cup Excellent hotel - staff (Mr. Baker) very hlepful and courteous. September 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Always a good time Every time we visit the city we always stay at the holiday inn off van ness, great location !!! The gentleman wino checked us in was a big help , he was professional and courteous . Always a great way to start our stay with a couple complimentary drinks in there cozy restaurant and bar down stairs. The room was clean and cozy. How much they charge for parking was a bit disappointing, very expensive considering your staying at the hotel, over all a great stay and look forward to coming back soon. September 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room & Front Desk 5 Star--Bar not so much The people at the front desk were friendly and engaging kept the line moving without giving customers the bum's rush, the best Holiday Inn staff I have ever had. Facility is a bit dated, but the room was clean and modern and we had a awesome view. Parking is a bit much, charging guests the same $49/day as non guests should be addressed. The bar was understaffed leaving a single waitress and bartender to handle 50+ people, we left and went to a local bar September 19, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Hotel but Housekeeping needs to improve I stayed here for a night while going around San Francisco. It is centrally located. I got a welcome mini bottle of Cognac as a gift. However, the check in person could have been more cordial. This may have to do with the hotel being so busy, but I am making excuses for her. There was no toothpaste in the room, so I called Housekeeping and they asked me how many we needed. since there was two of us, I asked for 2. When I came back to my room at 2200 I found only 1 set of dental kit. So i called hosuekeeping again.. and again. They were always sending it, but it never came. Also the bartender was too busy with the local college football pool. I used my free drink coupon and she gave me a half glass of beer. This may have something to do with the coupon that said TIP included. I still left her a $ as I had planned. September 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff and clean room I very much enjoyed my stay here. The staff was very inviting and accommodating. The room was very nicely appointed an clean. View from the 26th floor was terrific. My only con is the gym leaves a lot to be desired. September 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room with a view We really enjoyed the view of the city from our room. The beds were comfortable. Since we were very close to the end of the line of the trolley, there was minimal wait times. Outdoor pool was freezing! September 13, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Desk too close to bed The hotel was ok. The bed was too close to the desk, so trying to do work was a squeeze. Also had only coffee available, no tea in the room. The soap was ok, but the maids could make sure you get a fresh bar at EACH the shower and the sink. No ice or drink machine on the floor- it's every other floor. They used to have breakfast tickets. Not now. Outlets for ironing are nowhere except between the beds- 3/4 of room length from closet. Hangers are ok, but not enough space to hang clothes and put a suitcase inside. No rack for suitcase. Security bolt didn't really fit into door. September 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value Of the three Holiday Inns I have stayed at in San Francisco, this was by far the best value. Wonderful view of Nob Hill and the Bay, the room was comfortable, and I even got a free drink with dinner. One slight downside was that I wish I'd realized there was a mini-fridge hidden behind a cabinet before I left in the morning. If I need to travel to San Francisco again, I would probably check with this property first. September 7, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great price for the location-loud staff in mornings If you have to stay in the city, stay here!!!! The value and the room were great. The food at the breakfast buffet was average, so we ordered off the menu. Great omelets and filling! The staff woke us up both mornings before we were ready to wake…rolling laundry carts and picking up dishes left out from room service the night before. We did not tell management as the lines at the reception desk were long every time we went by. Bring ear plugs. All other hotels in the area were much more expensive, so the price was worth it. Location was within short walking distance of everything we wanted, but next time we will stay outside the city and use the city transportation which is wonderful! We did not get recognition as IHG Rewards Club Members…1st time. September 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's very cool The Hotel is very cool and I found all the rest in frankly I'm very glad that I booked in holiday inn. I will Book it whenever I come to San Francisco. Thanks to all the staff in the hotel September 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Magnificent Property We travel frequently and found the Golden Gate property exceptional at every level. The front staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. The rooms were clean, neat, comfortable, well-maintained...could not have been better. The view was amazing! The restaurant was delicious...the breakfast omlets were amazing. Room service was delicious and speedy. Cable car lines were easy to get to and we felt safe. Thank you for a wonderful stay!! September 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great location, great hotel The staff was so helpful and kind...from the front desk staff, to bell staff to housekeeping, and phone operators....I highly recommend this hotel. Also location is great as the California cable car is at the corner. I enjoyed the great little neighborhood restaurants, and plush feel of a NEW hotel. I scored every category Excellent that I experienced. I think because I didn't have any food or beverages at the hotel my overall score wasn't a perfect 5.0. But I liked getting the complimentary drink coupon at check-in...if only I had used it! !! September 3, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay Pros: Good location Clean and comfortable Excellent staff Clean Cons: Pool in need of attention and location not good but to be honest it could not be located anywhere else, perhaps if it were heated? Overall a great stay staff were attentive and recognised our reason for the vacation. September 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice place Staff was quite helpful. Loved the pool, and felt that the hotel was a very good value for a major city. Would certainly stay there again. September 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by restful stay over The room was well appointed the bed was very good, the room had a beautiful view of the city everything great. August 31, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 The staff warned me "we just want your money" Check in was a disaster. Because we could not immediatley produce a credit card #we were still unloading the car#, the staff refused to even look up our reservation #wich was already long paid#. Their comment was "we just want your money", and we had wait in the queu again. When we made a remark about this, once it was our turn again at the desk, we ware accused of communciting badly. Nice service towards a customer ! On check out, I noticed they charged me an internet connection that was no used. The lady at the desk said she would remove it from the bill. But due to a technical issue, she could not give me an updated receipt. Guess what ; my Amex card was charged for it. They made up to their promise "we just want your money". This was the worst staff we met during our 3 weeks tour. August 31, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jaksen Great service, friendly staff, safety, overall cleanliness, Convenience to bus and trolley lines, restaurants and, sites of interest. August 31, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay for a night in the city My wife and I were looking for a place relatively close to city hall the night before getting married. They put us in a room with a beautiful view of the city. The room was plenty comfortable. We enjoyed breakfast in the hotel and really enjoyed the food. The location was a great location with lots of places in the surrounding area. We even took a dip in the pool at night which was great. Living in the east bay we don't often stay a night in the city, but if we do again, we will certainly come back to this location. Not to mention when we said we were getting married, the front desk gave us a nice corner room and complimentary drink passes. August 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome view if you get the right room I got room 2501 on 25th floor and it was a spectacular view of the city from there - all the way till Alcatraz. The service was amazing. Jenny (a front desk lady) was very friendly and recognized my Platinum status. I was a but worried initially as its close to Tenderlion district and I was asked to avoid this place due to it being rough - but I found no influence of this at all. The parallel street behind the hotel is filled with restaurants which serve very lovely food at very economical price. Try 'Toast' restaurant for breakfast. August 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Golden Gate Bridge All staff are very helpful and professional. Everyone was extremely aware of their surrounding and guests needs and wants. August 28, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Really People! This was my second and last time staying here. I was greeted by an awesome afternoon staff who had everything moving smoothly... (we'll just skip to the bad part) after finishing up a work related project i went to sleep. I woke early in the morning to take a shower and find... a used bar of soap with hair on it.. needless to say i skipped the the shower. Really... really... how do you miss a bar of soap in the shower? I choose not to call downstairs and ask for another room or anything of the sort. Instead i choose to wait until they asked me the check out question they always ask "How was your stay with us" alas the question never came. The staff member was more concerned that because i was going to eat breakfast she could not close the room account just yet. I waited for the standard company email to ask about my stay and when that never arrived i contacted the corporate office who then forwarded my lengthy to the SF hotel and said some one would contact me... to this day i have heard nothing from them... this tells me that they don't value me or my business. Which is ok because now i know the level of room cleanliness and that properly billing my breakfast to prevent cashier errors is more important then will i come back. O'well on to the next one. August 27, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome View & Great Neighborhood I frequent SF for work often and stayed at this location on a colleagues recommendation. Located less then a mile from my office i found this Holiday Inn convenient. Very friendly and professional staff. Breakfast was awesome and my room had an amazing view of the city. August 27, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room irritable staff Our room was nicer than I expected. Beds were comfortable and we had a fantastic view. We had a little trouble upon check-in. Our key didn't work and we had to come back twice, which was fine but the guy at the desk seemed annoyed and condescending instead of apologetic. Another staff member was speaking in an loud annoyed tone across the lobby to a guest who did not follow his instruction properly. Maybe it's just a San Francisco thing, but since we're giving them our money I think they ought to be trained to put their disdain for us aside for the duration of their shift. August 27, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A pleasant stay I liked the location of this hotel, fairly close to everything. The room was clean and with a good size. The staff were friendly. If visiting SF again in the future I might stay in this hotel again. August 27, 2013
