Awesome customer service!
By BigAl1965
I think that it is important for people from the US to remember that hotels in Europe are usually different than the same brand of hotel in the US. Not better or worse, just different. For example, [More] the rooms tend to be smaller, the bathrooms typically only have a small shower, they typically require a key card in a slot by the door to keep the air conditioning and the lights on, etc. Also, the breakfast choices are typically different than what you would find in a HIE in the US. I found that hotels in Italy were closer to what would be found in the US versus an HIE in the Netherlands, for example. With all that in mind when I review a hotel outside the US I consider what it usual and customary for that country. However, one thing should be standard regardless of what country it is in -- customer service. Every single person we dealt with at this hotel was very friendly and on a few occasions we found ourselves just sitting down there by the front desk chatting with the front desk agents. Two people come to mind as being exemplary, although I want to be clear that ALL were awesome. Federica is one of the managers I believe and she is so nice. The gentlemen working with her the night we checked in I believe was named Constanzo (I'm so sorry if I got his name wrong). He was a lot of fun to chat with as well. Even the gentlemen who I believe was the manager was very nice and friendly. We found this to be a good place from which to explore Rome from. Either take the hotel shuttle or drive to the underground station (parking is 1,50 euros for 12 hours I believe) and take the train to central Rome. If you want awesome Italian food there is a pizza place within easy walking distance called Rosso Margherita (ask the front desk for directions), or if you don't mind a 15 minute walk there is a restaurant called Scaramouche which is REALLY good! They even gave us a 10% discount when we mentioned we were guests at the HIE. The customer service at this hotel was definitely above average, and I would stay here again if in the Rome area again. Crowded Breakfast
By disneyhousedad
Of course by the title, you would think that I was bothered by that, but I wasn't. I have travelled for work for 15 years and stayed at many holiday inns. Never have I seen a breakfast buffet that [More] was not crowded. I only mentioned it because there was a Chinese tour group there at the same time as us and it seemed like no matter what time I went down for breakfast, there was 50-100 older Chinese people all over the place. Lol! Anyway, I enjoyed the buffet because they had some nice fresh local bread which was delicious. They definitely recognized me at check in and gave me drink coupons, so I basically had 1 drink per night I was there on the house! Nice! The staff even went out of there way to find me an Italian beer to drink because I wanted to select only local food and drink as much as possible. Neighborhood was pretty good (not the worst and not the best either). The hotel was not close to anything really, but as I drove instead of relying on public transportation, it was not too much of an issue. It may have actually been more of a hassle to drive, since I had to find parking wherever I went and that is not easy in Rome. The garage was under the hotel and was secured by a key card controlled gate access. Definitely saw roaches in the garage, but never in our room, so that was good. The room was adequate, but small (same as everywhere in Europe). Shower was nice but since I am a large man, it was a bit difficult fitting into the tiny shower. No problem though, because as I said, it's Europe, so stuff is going to be smaller. It was quiet the whole time we were there, though they seemed to be at capacity. Overall it was a good choice in Rome as long as it is not important for you to be within walking distance of the Coliseum/Trevi Fountain/etc. [Less]
Great place to stay. Staff so friendly and helpful.
By GerryH66
Would highly recommend this hotel. Don't be put off by the exterior car park (a bit shabby) or some of the surrounding streets. It's a 15 mins walk to the nearest tram station and a much longer [More] walk to the nearest metro station (drive to it and park for E1.50 for 12 hours instead). Staff (reception and breakfast staff) went out of their way to be helpful. We would definitely stay here again. [Less]

Bella Roma
By Chuck O
We really enjoyed our stay at San Giovanni. The best part of the experience was the staff. They were courteous and friendly. The hotel is in a blue collar neighborhood close to trains and the [More] subway. The breakfast buffet was extra special; fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juices and so much more. Hot and cold choices. We will go back if we return to Rome. [Less]
Nice hotel and great value for Rome
By TMCC/Paris
The Holiday Inn Express San Giovanni is an extremely clean and well run hotel. Most of the staff have been there a good while and are very proficient in what they do. If you are a returning guest, [More] they are very quick to welcome you back and inquire into your well being. The hotel has very good public transportation options available. My only problem is that the hotel is too often "sold out"! [Less]

Three nights in this location in Rome were excellent. Normally stay elsewhere in less expensive accommodation but this was great for a treat. Easy walking distance to so many sights and restaurants. [Less]
