Now part of the medieval castle, this arch dates back to the 3rd-4th centuries AD, when it formed part of the Roman walls and served as a city gate. It is believed to have been demolished in the 16th century and rebuilt in 1938 using preserved remains. Known as the “Portas de Évora”, it has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.

The Church of Santiago, also known as Sé Catedral de Beja, is a magnificent Mannerist temple in the heart of Alentejo. Built in 1590 by order of Archbishop D. Teotónio of Bragança, it stands as a symbol of faith and heritage. Inside, discover gilded altarpieces, polychrome chapels, and stunning 18th-century azulejos panels. The church was elevated to cathedral status in the 20th century, preserving its unique blend of Mannerist and Baroque artistry for all to admire.
