The hotel sits at the foot of the Mendip Hills. The region is notable for its outstanding beauty characterised by limestone gorges and ancient woodlands crossed by many walking routes. A 20-minute drive from the hotel, Cheddar Gorge is known for its dramatic cliffs and caverns. Gough's and Cox's show caves are highlights, both famed for their impressive stalagmite and stalactite formations.
In the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, a 30-minute drive from the hotel, stands the Grand Pier dating from 1904. At the end of the pier are indoor rides like dodgems, as well as arcade games and attractions including a 4D cinema and a Hall of Mirrors. The kids can take a spin on the 300-metre long, split-level go-kart circuit, while you relax at the Edwardian-themed tea room.
Underground adventure awaits at the Wookey Hole Caves, 30 minutes' drive from the hotel, through the Mendip Hills. Wookey Hole is an expansive network of limestone caves with a river running through it. Tour guides can give you an insight on the 50,000-year history of the caverns. Other attractions include a handmade paper mill, a museum displaying archaeological finds and a leafy Fairy Garden.
Tucked away in Bristol's Clifton Village, 25 minutes' drive from the hotel, the beautifully restored, Victorian Clifton Arcade houses small, independent shops and boutiques. You can browse for antiques, vintage clothing, jewellery, books and contemporary art, or simply watch the world go by with a coffee and a bite to eat at a pavement table in front of the Primrose Café.
