No trip to London is complete without seeing the Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace. There is no entry fee and depending on the season, this happens daily or every second day, weather permitting. This iconic, colourful display lasts for about 45 minutes and involves royal guards marching between Wellington Barracks and Buckingham Palace. Grab a spot on the Victoria Monument for a good view.

Regents Park is only seven minutes from the hotel by taxi and offers plenty to see and do. If it's warm enough, pack a picnic and enjoy the views over London from Primrose Hill. Stroll through the gardens and marvel at the colourful flowerbeds and tranquil fountains. Children will love visiting the animals at ZSL London Zoo or exploring the Boating Lake from a pedal or row boat.

For London views with a difference, go for a ride on the Emirates Air Line. This cable car is located in North Greenwich, just 25 minutes by tube from the hotel, and offers stunning views over the River Thames, the O2 Arena and the high rise buildings of Canary Wharf. On a clear day, you can also see the Olympic Park. You can use your Oyster card to board. Make sure you bring your camera!

London's buses do not accept cash payments, so be sure to buy an Oyster card to use on public transport, or use a contactless payment card. Another tip: You have to pay to visit the viewing platform at the top of the towering Shard skyscraper. However, if you go to the Aqua Shard bar, located on level 31, there's no entry fee, and you still get amazing views of London.
