History fans make a beeline for Hever Castle, about half an hour's drive from the hotel. Dating back to the 13th century, it was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the ill-fated second wife of King Henry VIII. You can view both priceless furniture and torture instruments here, while children love tearing round the century-old yew maze and dodging water jets in the modern water maze.

Brighton is half an hour by train or car from the hotel, and the Indo-Gothic Royal Pavilion is possibly its most iconic landmark. Besides its unusual oriental decor, the pavilion, which was the seaside home of King George IV, houses an outstanding collection of royal art. For a change of pace, take a stroll on Brighton Pier and munch on fish and chips or sugared doughnuts.

You can enjoy family fun year-round at Tulleys Farm, less than 10 minutes by car and 15 minutes by bus from the hotel. In addition to seasonal events taking place throughout the year, the popular Tulleys Tea Room and Animal Patch are open every day. Animal Patch is in a garden and play area near the tea room and includes an assortment of birds and furry animals.

The Hawth theatre, a short stroll from the hotel, provides a year-round schedule of dramatic plays, musicals, children's theatre and Shakespeare. While most productions are from touring companies, its resident Pitchy Breath Theatre Company performs one new play each year. If you still want more, London's West End is less than an hour away via train and Tube.
