Rated 3,0 out of 5,0 by Refurb only surface Disappointing hotel. Recent refurb seems to just papered over the failings in this concrete 60s relic. Rooms are very nicely furnished but there is almost no soundproofing. I was able to listen to a telephone call in the next room and hear every word the caller said and my colleague who was in the room directly below me said she could hear my calls too. Heating system was not working and the overall impression was of a job not fully thought through or properly planned. State of the car park shows the underlying dilapidated state of the building. Rated 3,0 out of 5,0 by welcomed Refurbishment in Place I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions including when it was previously owned. over the years it has got tattier and tattier which is clearly seen just front the front entrance and reception area. The rooms are now undergoing a refurbishment which is well needed. They are nice with far better bathrooms and great showers. I will say one thing. It doesn't matter how old a building is, as long as it is clean. when you look around the restaurant like near the sea view windows, simple things like cleaning the peeling paint and ensuring all bulbs are working make a simple difference with little cost. my newly refurbished room was lovely but I don't think the carpet had been cleaned since being put down so covered in hairs and the bed vase wasn't nice to view ( I only looked as carpet so dirty). so please holiday inn, now you are being refurbished look after the building and show some basic care and attention to detail and the customers will keep flocking in. You have a great location for beach shops and entertainment. also I booked the day before, yet wasn't even listed on the arrivals list even though I am a platinum member. 17. April 2015
Rated 5,0 out of 5,0 by Lovely staff who bent over backwards for us We had a one night stay in Brighton at the Holiday Inn. From the minute I made the booking to when we arrived, the staff were absolutely charming. We were two adults and three children and when we found our room to be a little too cramped, they happily moved us to a slightly bigger room which was perfect. Similarly, the breakfast staff were charming and breakfast was plentiful, tasty and filling - we will definitely book to stay again. 16. April 2015
Rated 2,0 out of 5,0 by Poor restaurant service lets down the whole hotel Very poor service in the restaurant. I was shocked at how bad it was. We had to wait for the order to be taken, we received no menus, the drinks order wasn't taken and the food service was slow. The restaurant had two staff the whole time and only 4 tables of people! I understand slow service when the place is busy, but this was ridiculous. We were staying for the Brighton Marathon, so had no opportunity to leave the restaurant to find other food! The others we were sitting next to had the same view of the service. Front dest staff were good, the rest of the hotel was good and the location was excellent. Shame. 16. April 2015
Rated 3,0 out of 5,0 by Comfortable bed, good food, but very cold, hotel ugly We stayed the 12th April. On arrival the staff were very friendly with assisting us with parking. I booked six rooms in total but only received points on 1 which I am currently chasing. I did book 2 executive seaview not realising that it was side view, which truthfully was a waste of time and money. You cannot really see the sea without trying very hard. The room had been refurbished which was lovely but with two down sides. 1: The matress was nice but the bottom of the bed was old and dirty. 2: the heating was not working due to refurbishment. The open areas are very open and the we ate in the restaurant. The staff were very kind, attentive and the food excellent. BUT we had to eat with our coats on as it was so cold. The hotel is currently under refurbishment and once done will be great. 15. April 2015
