Stayed for 2 nights 13, 14th November for the purpose of daughters wedding reception on the 14th,from check in the staff were excellent, the hotel was clean and tidy throughout, the rooms were clean and tidy, some noise could be heard from kitchen fans ( we were in room 205 ).The wedding planner Michelle,the host Ray,and Janet in the restaurant all excelled at their tasks and made the event a tremendous success. We will stay again. 20 November 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by friendly staff hotel is in a pretty surrounding, by the canal and lock. The hotel staff where very friendly and helpful. However the hotel is very tired, shabby decor, worn carpets, to the state you can see the floor covering beneath, the rooms are tired and not overly clean. Long overdue for a facelift internally 19 November 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Great general staff, poor wedding venue. It seems a shame I've had to give such a low score for staff as the general hotel staff were fantastic, really friendly and chatty. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port for 2 nights as my sister got married there. The room was great for the money with enough space and the bathroom was nice a clean. The problem I had was with the wedding coordinator staff. When checking in and loading all the wedding things into the function room ready for the staff to set up for the following day I felt the gentleman in charge was very insensitive to talk about how while we are enjoying the wedding he would be setting up the next room for "tomorrow's bride" as they do "about 4 of these per week". Didn't make for a special bride feeling. Then a small problem with nowhere to hang the dress and a wedding coordinator who does not find solutions and just looked at us blankly and said she couldn't help, unless she wanted to hang it in the office?! Lovely evening meal apart from being over charged which we were told would be sorted by the time we go to pay the bill on checking out but it wasn't. All these (and quite a few others to be honest) were just small annoyances however what led me to making a complaint is how the housekeepers binned my speech. I gave my sister away and as our dad is deceased I would be doing the father of the bride speech, something incredibly important to my sister. The wedding coordinator told me to leave all belongings in the room we had stayed in the night before, then after the ceremony and photos come up and get whatever we need and then they would move everything to the bridal suite for us to separate later. I had my speech in my hand and asked if I should leave that also and she told me to just leave it on the table. Lovely ceremony and then about half an hour before the speeches I went up to get it and everything had been moved about and my speech was gone. I had the wedding coordinator with me who made no attempt to help whatsoever. I was turning all my belongings out very upset looking for it and she just stood there saying she's sure they wouldn't have thrown it out. It became clear they had and she didn't apologise once. I told the man mentioned before who just told me to make a joke out if it. After the vows, this was the most important part for my sister and they couldn't have cared less. Pretty setting but they make you feel a bit like you're on a conveyor belt of weddings with no little perks or extras for the bride. It's just a job to them. I complained to Holiday Inn who emailed back very briefly to say they would pass on my feedback. 12 November 2014
