I have stayed at this hotel lots of times but the recent work to improve rooms and facilities has made quite a difference. The new room cooling system has made staying in the Summer much more pleasant and will ensure i stay again.

Used this hotel for overnight stay for it's location being close to the M4, even though it is in close proximity to the M4 motorway the room was quiet enough to sleep undisturbed.
Breakfast food had great choice of both hot and cold buffet, restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. What more do you need for a quick overnighter, didn't the leisure facilities so no comment on them..

Staff very helpful. Room clean and comfortable although not a twin as booked. Breakfast very nice. Bar service prompt and helpful. Ample parking. Nice area with good transport links.

Spent one night here. Reception were friendly. The room was large, clean and comfortable even if the decor looks a little dated there was nothing wrong with it.
The evening meal (from the buffet) was a little like a cheap carvery meal. The pre-cut lamb was a bit tough, the chicken was fine and the veg were ok. The cauliflour was a bowl of mush. The staff in the dining area were nice and friendly but not very on the ball and tried to charge us for the dinner even though it was included this was remedied without fuss but shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Breakfast was a good range of stuff but not great quality- sausages were over seasoned.
Not bad for the price we paid but wouldn't have been happy if I had paid full whack.

Arrived at 11 am before a rugby match and unable to check in so left luggage with a colleague. Returned at 11 pm to find that the twin room ordered was a double and reception staff refused to change the room to a twin and would not provide sheets for the fold out sofa
When I complained to the bar staff they made up the fold out sofa andput sheets and pillows on it
Very poor service from thd reception staff and would not recommend this hotel despite other aspects which were OK

We have tried all the local Hotels, and for my Husband and me, this one meets all our needs. We have stayed several times while my son has been moving and renovating his house.

Rooms looked nothing like they did on the website, however, the bed was very comfortable. Receptionist on check out was lovely & very helpful however receptionist on check in, not so much. Carpet in room hadn't be hoovered so when entering the room, all we could see was grass etc all over the carpet, not the best levels of cleanliness but it was ok for the one night. Didn't eat at the hotel but I'd say the room was good value for money, also a huge bonus that they provide smoking rooms.

Ordered bar meal. Advised 10 minutes later my item was not available. Re ordered 2nd choice. My colleagues meal arrived after 40 minutes with a promise of mine to follow. A further 90 minutes later I eventually gave up. Asked for alternative for room service. By now it's 10.20pm and my meal arrives and it's poor and frankly I was ready to sleep rather than eat. All this and I am a 'gold' member... Really???. Hotel is in real need of a revamp , it's tatty and tired. Way off a Holiday Inn brand I know and expect. Not even a bottle of water in the room.

We had a really good one-night stay here. Because of my wife's Chronic Fatigue we requested a room close to the reception and leisure facilities and were not disappointed - we couldn't have been closer. The breakfast was very good and the staff helpful, friendly and attentive. The pool was quiet, relaxing and easy to use, with NO CANNED MUSIC - great!

Stayed here on 7th April really well decorated room had been modernised comfortable bed. Staff really friendly and the evening girls in the restaurant could not have been more attentive . Food quality and value excellent really pleased with the whole stay and have rebooked again for later on in the year.

The room had stains on the carpet, gouges on the walls and the gym looked like something out of the 60s and was hot with no ability to reduce the temperature. The pool cannot be anymore than 20 feet long .
The front desk staff were surly, however all of the wait staff were professional and had a high sense of customer satisfaction which is why the Staff & Service got a 3.
My advice is to pay a bit more and go somewjhere else.

This was my first visit to this property and although it is an older hotel it is well maintained. The room was clean and everything was in good shape ( fittings etc) the bed was very comfortable and sheets like new. There was a good internet service and regular email client should work fine (ie outlook or iPad/Mac mail) mine worked fine ( some hotels block this so only we mail is possible).
I Was pleased to see a FREE open and spacious parking area so no multi-story parking here. And was greeted on my arrival by the night manager who was very welcoming and helpful.
I would go back here again... They even had a wonderful choice for breakfast . In fact I will stay there next time I am in the area.

I have stayed at several hotels in the area and this is by far the best.The hotel is in a very good location. The staff and always friendly and helpful. The rooms are of a good standard. The restaurant offers a good table d'hote selection. The breakfast is of a good quality .

The Hotel is let down by the rooms, I had a room upgrade due to being a Priority Club member. The room although large is over due for a makeover. The walls looked like they had put lining paper over woodchip wallpaper, then painted it lemon. It was clean, but felt dirty because of the decor and furniture.

Booked room for a quick overnight business trip - took advantage of the fact that a large/family room which sleeps 3 was the same price as a 2 person room.
The exterior and communal areas of the hotel are tired and in need of renovation but my room was a bit more up to date. Noise levels were low and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and clean although the bath itself was quite small and didn't have the power shower which was advertised. The tap design made it difficult to rinse my face in the basin.
WiFi access was free and the speed was good, one annoyance is that the WiFi key changes every 24 hours, I was not made aware of this and only discovered it when, on the second day, my internet connection stopped working.

How acceptable to be greeted by the staff, smiles and a welcome to the breakfast room, asked what table you would prefer to be seated at, beverages ordered and brought to the table, explanation of the menu all delivered with a warmth that gave you the ideal start to the day.

During my stay at Holiday Inn Newport, I have been made to feel very much at home. The rooms are comfy and good quality. The most important aspect of enjoying my stay, and wanting to return is the friendliness and helpfulness of the restaurant and bar staff. Their customer service skills are very good and help to make the evenings very relaxed and enjoyable. It was a friends birthday during our stay and the waitresses set up the table with party plates etc and we had a great night! I would recommend staying here!!

Having stayed here on 25/012014 for a reunion in the Celtic manor I have a few regrets that I didn't choose to stay in the Celtic manor .
On arrival I was given my room 223 which smelt of stale cigarette smoke which was dissapointing as me and my wife both don't smoke there was wall paper hanging off the wall by the tv and could not turn the heating off on the radiator as thermostat would not work after having very little time to complain .As we had to be at the reunion we had to put up with a hot smelly room for our stay
Then on our departure I payed for my room on my bank card only to have the price of my room and my brothers taken off my wife's bank the card which was used to pre book the room .This money has taken nearly a week and numerous phone calls to get refunded after this stay at the holiday inn Newport its a experience I would never repeat

Credit to the staff of this hotel, they made my stay welcoming and comfortable. I stayed for two separate weeks and each individual room was well presented and clean. However in comparison the rooms varied in size drastically which led to me feeling slightly aggrieved but in perspective I had been spoilt in the larger of the two rooms. Bar food is somewhat disappointing for the price however the buffet menu in the hotel resturant was of good quality and a varied selection including sound vegetarian choice. Staff at breakfast were also extremely accommodating and also presented us with a wide choice of foods.

I gave this hotel one more chance after two previously poor experiences.
This time it was so different.
I was given a refurbished room - this just transforms the experience. The room was spacious and clean and up to the normal standard for a Holiday Inn.
The staff from check in to check out were friendly and courteous.
I didn't have the opportunity to try out the pool maybe on my next visit.
I am glad I gave this hotel another chance but next time I book I will make sure there is a refurbished room available.

I keep hearing about how tired this hotel is and in need a of a refurb.
This is true, the rooms could do with a lick of paint and generally tidying up, however this hotel still gives good value for the price
The Staff are exellent form the Breakfast Waitresses to the Evening watiresses and The Reception Staff are brilliant
The only downside the hotel has in my eyes is the Menu.
This has not changed in the 4 years that I have been visiting the hotel, it could do with a bit of variation.
I stay at the Hotel on a regular basis and would like to see something different.
Staff, keep up the good work.

Ok, after I booked I read the reviews. I must admit I was going to cancel after reading them but I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did. Yes, it does need some TLC and I would say the executive rooms was not what I'm used to compared to other hotels as it's old. It's a huge hotel and truly does need a makeover. With that being said, I extended my stay a further 3 days so it can't be that bad.The hotel is warm and inviting and the staff are absolutely awsome. They made our stay worth while. Helpful, courteous and very accommodating. They went out their way to make our stay in Wales more inviting and we will gladly return.

We had advised reception in the morning that we would be booking in late that evening. When we entered our room it was very cold because the staff had left the window open - in late December!
We were provided with a fan heater, but as we wanted a hot drink and a snack, there were only two small cartons of milk in the room and no biscuits. Fortunately when I contacted the night porter he was able to provide more milk and some biscuits.
We were very disappointed with breakfast - the coffee was disgusting, the bacon was dried up and hard and the scrambled egg was waterlogged. At least we reported this when checking out and the manageress waived the breakfast charges.
I'm afraid we'll be looking elsewhere the next time we require a hotel near Newport.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Despite the hotel being almost empty we were originally placed in a small double room at the end of a second floor corridor however after mentioning this to the barmaid and waiter in passing conversation they arranged to move us to a more suitable room. Great PR !!

Was looking forward to a good charismas holiday with my family at this location, but was not impressed at all, I have stayed at various other holiday in hotels but I must say this one was nothing compared to the others. Hotel could do with a good renovation, food menu not as described as menu stated, ordered food and after about 2hrs they still brought the wrong order which was not even up to stranded, was on a dinner bed and breakfast deal, on 2nd night we were told no dinner was catered for that night so they had to give us another menu which I must say had better options, there was a lot of confusion on this visit
