Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Sleepy2014 Avoid the 3rd floor Airconditioning plant is noisy
I booked the 3 rooms whilst working in the area however the Airconditioning plant in the roof area above the rooms started up and stopped all through the night. I didn't get any sleep from 2am. Three rooms with a guy in each and only one of us slept. At checkout the reception desk knew the issue before I even spoke. Their response was a refund of one breakfast. If I hadn't have been so tired, with a long day ahead of me, I'd have argued harder for a refund. Another chain hotel is next door; they have a good nights sleep guarantee.
Or...when booking, make a phone call rather than book via an app or online to make sure you are not in a room near the noisy equipment.
All other facilities were good, I just required sleep to function properly the next day.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by PMS514 Good - but not that good!
Being a Platinum member for a number of years I frequent very many hotels in the Group, I have also stayed at this hotel many times in recent months.
It is disappointing that they never offer an upgrade to platinum members even though Executive Rooms are available. (Whilst not expecting this every time, even an occasional offer would be welcome and appreciated!)
Food quality has slipped at breakfast, with the food being more greasy.
Staff are friendly and helpful, the hotel is well situated with ample parking.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Whistleblower Great Holiday Inn close to Nottingham City Centre
Very modern yet cosy feel to this Holiday Inn. Room was of a very high standard with good quality decoration etc. Not a very big hotel but good. Bar area is very small & gets filled quickly with stag / hen party groups early evening on a Fri & Sat night I would think... but all OK. Very good location close to city centre. Food was of a good standard overall; not great but OK.

Stayed for 2 nights as husband was umpiring a hockey cup final and we decided to make a weekend of it. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and the standard of food both for evening meal and breakfast was outstanding (keep your chef happy!!!)
Only 2 down sides. one the pressure of the cold water was extremely poor. It took ages for the bath to fill an d in the morning when others were using the water, I had to wait for the tiniest trickle to do my teeth!! we wondered if it was because we were on the 3rd floor. but to be fair when we mentioned it on checking out the receptionist was very apologetic and said he would report it. only other down was being woken up at 3 and then 4 in the morning by very rude inconsiderate people who haven't the courtesy to speak in a low tone outside hotel rooms instead of talking at full volume!! But NOT the hotel,s fault so all in all a good weekend and I would recommend this hotel. also only 15 mins lovely walk along the canal to the town centre

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Gel77 comfortable bed but the room was way too hot
Unless you are in an executive suit there is no climate control as they have turned it all off so yet again my room was like a sauna making it only possible to sleep after I had passed out through sheer exhaustion.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bristol4 Pleasant stay
We had a one night stay in a family room for 4. We had 2 comfortable double beds with a selection of firm or soft pillows for all. The room was lovely and clean and tidy, finished in a modern and pleasant style, with TV, iron, ironing board, and Tea and coffee making facilities.
The bathroom was reasonably spacious with a shower over the bath. Again this was clean and tidy and finished in a modern style.
The parts of the premises we did visit seemed very comfortable and well kept. However due to such a brief stay we were unable to fully appreciate all the facilities that were available.
We cannot comment on the food as our stay was on a room only basis. We considered breakfast but found this to be a little more expensive than we wanted to pay for a family of 4, as our children did not qualify for the kids eat free deal.
The staff were pleasant and courteous when we checked in and quickly dealt with our only concern that our room had been prepared for 2 people rather than 4.
We had a pleasant stay and would be happy to book again.
Our only negative comments would be that we found the room very warm during the night, and free wifi facilities would have been appreciated.

This hotel is excellent for people visiting or working in Nottingham. The hotel is far enough outside of the city centre to not have the noise from traffic and student drinkers (unlikely the express). However, you are 1 mile from the castle and it is an slow 15 minute walk along the canal to the train station.
If you enjoying running before or after work then the circular routes along the canal to the Trent and back is excellent for all runners. Routes from 6km, 8km, 9km and 11km in either direction.
Highly recommend the hotel.

Nice reception area and friendly staff. Room was a little dated, however I believe that some refurb is underway. Food was nice and a decent menu was available.
Overall a nice hotel for the short stay that I was there and I would stay again.

Unfortunately the whole experience was spoiled by inconsiderate guests coming in during the early hours of Sunday morning, talking far too loud and making general noise entering their rooms. Unfortunately we were opposite the lift.

Extremely slow lifts, these must be ancient - needs to be upgraded.
Waitresses very attentive and food very good.
Checking out was a hassle as the person on reception could not read the bill properly and had an attitude.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by KMD999 Nice Hotel shame about the plumbing!!
Stayed here overnight on business. Check in was fine and confimed breakfast inluded in booking.
Got back from work at 12.20am and set my alarm for 8.30am.
At 7.30am the central heating pipes started clanging as the heating came on. This went on for half an hour at various noise levels.
Finally went down to breakfast (early) to be told by the waitress that breakfast was not included in my stay even though it had been confirmed on my arrival. She phoned to check with the duty manager but got no answer. Said i could go in anyway. I assume she checked at some stage but it would have been nice if she had confirmed this with me (and appologised or am i being picky?)
When i mentioned the plumbing to the duty manager on my way out he appologised and that was it.
If you want a hotel that offers a good nights sleep GO ELSWHERE!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cuber lovely comfy beds
Two double beds for two people with a choice of pillows made it very easy to sleep well despite the hotel being very busy and quite noisy in the corridors but it was Saturday night in the city centre. The room was clean apart from thick dust on the mirror and and picture frames but decoration was a little tired with peeling wallpaper and scuffed walls. Convenient for the University with a choice of chain restaurants on the doorstep. My daughter and I found the staff to be really freindly and accommodating. My only two gripes are that the room was very hot despite turning off the central heating. And yes, we did open the window but it was a bitterly cold night so the temperature plummeted and the open window meant we had all the traffic noise and the noise of merry people returning to the hotel. The other gripe is having to pay for wi-fi in the room. My young daughter did not want to sit in reception in the evening and you only get an hour free anyway. Overall, I think if it was a week night I'd happily stay again as the beds were so comfortable.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Irene101 Rooms too warm
Found the temperature in the room intolerable. It was too warm too sleep even though I had my radiator turned to zero. Reception could not change my room as they said other rooms would be the same. Gave me a fan which helped a little and said to leave the window open to cool it down which also helped marginally but it was really too warm when sleeping. I stayed 4 nights and worked during the day so I was exhausted at the end. Will not stay in this hotel again.
Other negative points are:
Some of the staff a bit uppity.
Internet only free for elite members and very costly if not - most people have internet at home these days so in some ways I think it should be an included service in hotels (like a TV - you expect all rooms to have this without paying extra.
Kettle wasn't very clean.
No back door in this hotel - so it is a long walk around when its raining.
Sorry but on this occasion, the only positive point I have for this hotel is its location.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Wookiee73 Didn't really want to sleep on the floor
Stayed in probably the worst Holiday Inn room I've ever seen at this hotel. The bed was pretty much a mattress on the floor and the TV couldn't be viewed comfortably either from the bed or from the single chair in the room. Really disappointing as my previous stays at this hotel have been good.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Swannie Poor cleanliness
I was not impressed with my stay at Holiday Inn, Nottingham I thought the hotel was very tired in its decoration in the bedrooms.
The cleanliness of my bathroom was disgusting. There were used tissues by the toilet, I could tell they had been there for a while as they were stained yellow. On my second day the cleaners so called cleaned my room. I thought it was the cleaners were not very good, they so called cleaned the toilet let the toilet seat up with used toilet paper not flushed away.
I was dubious about the complete cleanliness of my room.
I would not stay here again if I can help it. It has put me off that hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RoadWarrior2011 Smaller hotel but not lower standards
I am a commercial traveller (I live in hotels most weeks for 3 or 4 nights) I always say that you can never really judge a hotel until you've stayed there 6 months because you need to see how they treat you when they are stretched / at capacity. The staff here are excellent in a crisis and tremendously helpful. This is a smaller hotel with the attitudes of a much larger one. I stayed here from April to December 2013 during the week.
If you need to watch your waist-line, the menu has a few things for the calorie conscious and a chef (or chefs) that never seem to mind going the extra mile and really "keep it real". Room service is pretty spot on, quick and hot. The mini gym is serviceable and a little compact but hot in the summer. Parking is free and seems really secure and well monitored by staff / cctv.
Booking and check-in were excellent, bar snacks pretty normal holiday inn fare, restaurant smaller menu but good quality, breakfast service usually seems crowded round 8am but the chef is helpful whatever the time. The hot breakfast buffet is a bit of a mixed bag and quite often not very hot, cold buffet has a number of good quality items but fruit is sometimes (thankfully not too often) not very fresh.
There is a definite shortage of upgrade rooms for the IHG rewards club member resulting in me paying for an upgraded room in order to get one (the month I stayed before paying for an upgrade I didn't get upgraded once).
Climate control is poor (no air con) in the standard rooms and noisy in the executive rooms which do have air con. If you're thinking of staying in a standard room in the hotter summer months bring an electric fan unless you pay for an executive room.
Mobile phone signal is pretty universally excellent throughout the hotel on O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone (the providers I use). The standard wifi is about 256K and doesn’t support BBC iPlayer but is very serviceable if you get it for free in the lounge but elsewhere it is chargeable and definitely not worth £10 a day.
The hotel looks to be a long way away from town but there are local shops (a big Sainsbury’s) and barbers within 5 minutes walking distance. If you do choose to walk down the canal path into town you're walking distance (or a £6-10 taxi ride from the town centre) from many great places:
* 20 mins leisurely walk from The World Service Restaurant and Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem (ancient pub)
* 25 mins leisurely walk from three of Nottingham’s best Indian Restaurants: Cumin, 4550 Miles from Delhi and Chutney
* 30 mins leisurely walk from three of Nottingham’s best French Restaurants: Le Petit Paris, French Living and Le Bistrot Pierre
...and a whole host of great pubs... of course there’s taxis for the way back and at around £6-10 for a Hackney Cab from the town centre back to the hotel you can afford to relax and have a great time.
I love this hotel and its on my list of favourites, mainly because of the staff (especially the front of house manager).

I stayed with my daughter who had an interview nearby. We had a great meal in the restaurant the previous evening and the service was quick and excellent considering there were 2 very large groups in there, well done team!. We asked the staff for local knowledge and they were very helpful. A great stay, thank you.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by JennyLouise Nice room
On arriving at the hotel, I was asked for my card and told that no money was being taken it was just to swipe it for the cost of the room and mini bar (in case we did a runner, I suspect!) and on leaving I had to give them my card again to pay for the room only, as we hadn't used the mini bar. The next working day the cost of the room was debited from my account. However, I'm still waiting for my bank to return the money that was "reserved" on the day that I arrived. Apparently, it takes 7 WORKING days for the money to be returned to my account! I am not happy about this, if I had known I would have paid for the room on arrival and been quite happy for the them to reserve the money for the cost of the mini bar (even though we had no intention of using it). Luckily, I had enough money in my account to pay for the room twice, but it's not an ideal time of year to be waiting for that amount of money to be returned.
Now to the room.. It was lovely (we were given an "executive" room) and we were very impressed by the cleanliness and comfort - the bed was an absolute dream! However, I didn't get to do much dreaming, as the room was far too hot with the heating on and I woke twice in the night because of this. Also, the following morning, you can hear all the doors on the corridor banging constantly. The lifts were terribly slow and held a maximum of only 4 people!
It's location is probably the best thing, but there is another hotel literally right next door (I'd have used that one, if they had rooms available).
Overall, it was a nice place to stay but not nice enough to go again, unfortunately.
