I HAVE A PLEASANT STAY. THE ONLY PROMBLEM WAS THAT ONE OF THE BEDS WAS A SOFA, BECAUSE THE HOTEL WAS FULLY BOOKED. TO BE HONEST THE SOFA WASN'T COMFORTABLE EXACTLY LIKE THE BED, BUT IT WAS GOOD.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Gorge Not what we expected
We have stayed at Express by Holiday Inns in London and had much better experiences.
For a start there was no air conditioning in the room, this is something we thought was standard. We booked a room with a sofa bed for 3 people, when we arrived at 12 o'clock (early I know) we were told the room was not ready as the bed had to be made. When we got back later to the hotel to check in officially we discovered that there were only 2 mugs, 2 towel sets and the sofa bed just had a sheet and a blanket, which incidentally was very uncomfortable. This was also un-made. Why no duvet?
We did expect better service than this.
For this reason we will not be recommending this hotel.

We stayed for a night stopping off from visiting our friends in London and on the way from our wedding in Gretna Green. Check in was very quick and easy and the staff was very helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. Definitely great value for money.

My partner and I have stay at this hotel every time we visit Oxford. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with a tv and kettle which is always a bonus. Breakfast is more than ample, we never leave hungry. I would recommend a stay to anyone!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nicky4771 Convenient and Comfortable
We stayed for 2 nights over the August bank holiday. The rooms were comfortable and we were pleasantly surprised to find that a twin room really was just that; too often you get a double and a camp bed. However, the water pressure in the shower was so poor as to be virtually unusable; we reported this and were told that there had been a fault and the system had been reset to correct it but the situation didn't improve. The breakfast was very disappointing; not much choice and the food wasn't great either. The breakfast room was also very busy, we were lucky enough to get a table each morning but plenty of others weren't.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by gazarah Not a good stay, breakfast ok though!
When we arrived around 2.30 pm we were able to check-in (half an hour early) We were surprised to see the bar full of men going to the football match next door and didn't think the hotel would allow people to drink in their bar if they weren't staying at the hotel, this made us not want to sit in the bar area for a drink after a long journey. The shower room had a couple of marks on the floor which looked like blood which was off-putting and the sink didn't seem to drain well as though it was blocked. I woke up during the night with backache which hasn't happened for a while; I put this down to an uncomfortable mattress and only having one pillow. The sofabed for my son was very lumpy and he knocked his shins on the metal frame a couple of times when getting into bed. In the morning it rained and there was this loud tapping noise outside our window, below was a metal roof that the rain was hitting; if it had rained during the night this noise would have kept us awake. The breakfast area got busy but it was fine, plenty of choice, plenty there. We didn't complain to staff about the room as we were only there for one night and didn't want to waste time moving rooms etc but if we'd have been there longer I would've have requested another cleaner room away from the metal roof outside and extra pillows. We are staying at another Holiday Inn this weekend near Alton Towers, hopefully this one will be better (fingers crossed!)

Very good check-in service, nice room on ground floor, comfortable beds and quiet. Would stay again if going to that area.

I would recommend this Holiday Inn Express for all types of travellers. It is comfortable, clean and the complimentary breakfast is well worth trying. There are a range of restaurants nearby in the Vue cinema complex. The staff could not be more helpful. Only thought on match nights probably a bit noisy.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 room noisy
my wife and I visited this hotel 16,8.13 for a two night stay, when I booked (26/2/13) I asked to have a quiet room they put us in room 17 on the ground floor this was an absolute disaster, there was a noise coming from the next room which sounded like an engine and it continued all through the night, we were unable to sleep, I complained to reception the following morning and asked them to come and listen to it, they sent a man from reception (Paolo) who agreed that it was a bad noise. they changed our room on the second night to a quiet room but it was not the type of room we booked. apart from this everything else was ok breakfast good reception staff good. our weekend was ruined as we were too tired to enjoy my grandaughter's wedding which was the reason for the stay at the hotel.

The area to collect your food is very small, although there are two places where you can get hot drinks everyone queues for the first one. Sadly there was no member of staff helping to reduce this jam. My advice is be first for breakfast.

It was so nice to see the hotel sign after a eventful journey . We both needed to relaxe and wind down . The service was has expected the room was comfortable and the staff very helpful in telling us about where to eat and other attractions near by . Would certainly stop hear again when in the area . We stopped at the Holiday Express to break our journey an miss the horrific traffic at Birmingham in the morning . Many thanks to all of the staff

Clean spacious room with comfortable bed.
Reception staff very helpful.
We enjoyed the free breakfast, although the room it was served in got a little cramped, and it could be better set out!
We have stayed here twice, and would do so again, as very convenient for Oxford, and visiting friends and family, or for going to see Oxford United play.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ALM1 Uncomfortable and a terrible nights sleep
We had planned to use the sofa bed in our room but there was no chance anyone was going to be able to sleep on it as it was lumpy and uneven so we decided to bunk together.
Unfortunately the double bed was also very uncomfortable and the room so hot (despite the slightly cooler weather) that neither of us slept well at all. This was topped off by an early morning laundry delivery right outside our window!
We did mention this on checking out and the gentleman on the desk said that the sofa beds weren't intended for adult use.
All of this said, the hotel was clean and the shower had excellent pressure. Hopefully we were simply unlucky with the bed.
Fixed £10 taxi into the city centre was handy and there is a park and ride nearby.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Doraydo Definitely use this hotel
From the time we arrived at the Kassam Stadium Holiday Inn Express we were made welcome. We have stayed there before and the service was good then and is still so. The breakfasts are varied, whether you want a continental breakfast or a simple cooked breakfast of toast, scrambled egg, sausage and beans. The car park is large and, if you prefer to use public transport, there is a 15 minute service nearby into Oxford town centre or the railway station - this removes the problem of finding the park/ride services. If you want evening meals, the cinema complex 5 minutes walk away provides Indian, Chinese and other restuarants. If you wish to go to the Frankie & Benny's, then get ther early - it is very popular. A pleasant free extra is the complimentary newspaper and free coffee, so you don't need to rush out after breakfast.

The family room is NOT really a family room. It has one double bed and a very uncomfortable fold out couch. The location is NOT so good, a drive or bus ride to the city. The amenities at the hotel are very limited.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enesjay Decent Hotel - Terrible Wifi
The hotel is fairly good given the price – the rooms are clean, the staff is professional and the beds are fairly comfortable. Although there is one major negative – the wifi is completely usable, 90% of the pages time out. In this day and age reasonable wifi is standard in most hotels.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Well furnished room
Excellent bathroom design & layout in a tight space.
Disappointed to find no restaurant facility. The only "eating" places were in the adjacent VUE complex, but did not have anything worth staying for - mostly junk food and/or foreign garbage.
Breakfast was rather poor - "hot" food was a choice of 1 of 2 types of sausage, scrambled egg and beans. Yes, there were plenty of different cereals but not a lot of choice when it came to fruit juice to drink.
I'm used to Holiday Inn stays where there is usually an in-house restaurant and sensible English breakfasts. I would not choose this establishment again, unless really pushed.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ckw6753 Unprofessional clerk and very uncomfortable bed
Upon checking in, I attempted to give the clerk my Priority Club card number. She wrote the number down on a notepad. Prior to checking out, I found that the number had not been entered into the system. The manager entered the number and informed me that I could not get point credit for the two rooms that I had paid for; however, I would get credit for one room. Upon checking my account, I find that I received no points.
The hotel is very inconveniently located with extremely limited access to eating or entertainment. It is several blocks from the nearest bus stop. The bed was without doubt the worst that my wife and I have ever slept on. For a new hotel, they really cut corners on the bed. Everything else in the room was satisfactory.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MrKush Best value for money hotel in Oxford Area
I was in Oxford for a day and was recommended to stay at this hotel. Even though it is a mid-range hotel, the room was premium.
It was good value for money as it is rare have a premium hotel room for a mid range price. Room was nice and clean, shower room was too good to be true.
At Breakfast time, we were treated to a wide range of meals available, I was spoilt for choice.
Finally there is one thing to remember. To get there from centre of Oxford, you either take bus 5 (from New Road bus stops) or bus 12 (Gloucester Green bus stops).
Bus 5 takes you to Pergasus Road and its a 7 min walk to the hotel at Grenoble Road. Bus 12 takes you to Grenoble Road, but it is less frequent at very 30 to 40 mins.
To have a dinner, there are lots of nearby restaurants including a fish and Chps shop about 5 min walk near the Vue cinema building.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JohnKl Kassam Stadium
A very basic to spartan Holiday Inn Express with not a lot going for it except being next to the Stadium. Everything looks cheap about the place and no corner has been left uncut in the decoration and furnishings.
It is well out of town with no surrounding amenities and is suitable for a one night stay if you have nowhere else to go.
Fairly close to the local sewage plant if you happen to work there.
On the plus side it was clean and looked faily new.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mrbernz Good, but far away from Oxford
This place was great for us as we were part of a large cycling group who needed a place to stay. They were very accomodating in allowing ups to place our bikes in the meeting rooms overnight. The place is far from Oxford, but close by the stadium, so as long as you aware aware of that you are fine. Breakfast is as expected (good but limited), rooms are clean and good. It's a 3 star hotel, and probably deserves that - as long as you are ok with that you won't be disappointed.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by kimborams Great room, shame about the breakfast
Room very well-equipped, modern and comfortable which we were quite pleased with. However, we were not so pleased with the breakfast experience - no 'greeter' to explain how things worked, layout poor, hot breakfast was only sausage, scrambled egg and beans - no bacon, fried egg, tomatoes, mushrooms etc. Would be better if they had option of no breakfast - this was included in room rate but would sooner have eaten breakfast at Frankie & Benny's!!
