Insider Tips

Eclectic Berlin

Some value it as fast-paced, colourful and full of surprises; others find it a little too hectic and a little gruff. Berlin is fascinating because it is multicultural and adaptable. Visit churches, synagogues, mosques and Buddhist temples. The biggest Jewish Synagogue offers guided tours.
The InterContinental at the crossroad of Berlin Mitte and the City West reflects the dynamics of the German capital with its modern interior and events. The hotel features 558 rooms and suites, a fitness centre, indoor pool, a variety of restaurants and bars, and 34 event rooms spreading over 5,700 square metres. Centrally located, the hotel impresses with comfort and flexibility. Whether you are visiting us for a conference or planning a city trip, we are looking forward to meeting you.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel with some minor strange things I was booked into the Intercontinental for my company's conference. I do recommend this hotel - the rooms are very comfortable and attractive, I slept very well! and the breakfast was exceptional with so many choices to fit all tastes. The towels, robes and slippers were of good quality and I especially liked the heated slate floor in the bathroom - so wonderful for winter! I just want to point out a few minor annoyances which actually surprised me to find in such an otherwise high quality hotel. None of these are serious, but might be worth looking at in order to make the experience perfect. 1. I requested latex pillows from housekeeping but I never got them. 2. the TV is VERY strange - it's extremely small (maybe 53cm??) and fixed in a glass cabinet which rotates so you can view it in the bathroom. However you can't see the TV when in bed - it's at right angles to the bed instead of being opposite. I didn't need to watch TV, but this is the first hotel I've ever stayed at where you can't watch TV in bed without seriously cricking your neck. It made me wonder if there had ever been test guests to say this was a good idea. 3. Lastly the shower was frustrating. It's a combined bath and shower arrangement - with a lever to select where the water comes out. Twice I flooded the bathroom because water streamed out onto the floor in the gap where the clear partial shower screen attaches to the shower wall. This was because the water was coming out of the flexible hose shower fixture. After the second time, I finally realized there is an overhead shower fixture on the ceiling! But unless you direct the flow to this roof fixture, you will almost certainly flood your bathroom. Personally I would much rather have a completely separate shower enclosure and no bath at all, , than the shower over the bath, but I realize many guests demand a bath. 24 November 2014

23 November 2014
