Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient location, friendly staff, good value Clean & comfortable room. Excellent view of the SF bay fm the 26th floor room. Slight mix up on our request for early arrival inadvertantly noted as a late arrival and therefore had a rather extensive wait b4 gaining access to the room. However, in view of the room we did get, in retrospect the wait was somewhat more tolerable. In that regard, we want to especially acknowledge and thank Anthony at the front desk. Also, the maid service was excellent. October 20, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Incredible service, great rooms, perfect location This hotel has the best service I've ever received anywhere. We've been staying at this hotel for the past 5 years, and they've never let us down. Their employees could teach customer service. October 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Our San Francisco Experience What a hotel!! We truly enjoyed our stay for 3 nights while we toured San Francisco. The best part of our room on the 26th floor was the spectacular view! The corner room was awesome! Our room was beautifully furnished and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shop on the main floor provided good tips for our tours and transportation. We were able to rent a car with ease for the remainder of our California adventure. Lastly, we were able to print our boarding passes for your flight home right in the hotel. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel! October 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by a bit dusty around the edges I think a crevice tool needs to be used on the carpets. It seems there is about an inch of carpet from wall that doesn't get vacuumed up. The rest of the carpet is vacuumed, just not closest to the baseboard which means accumulated detritus. October 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect to be in San Francisco Nice, friendly Staff, perfect Location to discover the City (the Cable Station "California Street" to the Market street is just arround the Corner. Nice and clean room (we where at the 25th floor) with a great overview. Good breakfast with nice staff there too ... all in all very perfect stay! October 10, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Thin walls, cramped room If I had visited this hotel prior to booking a conference here for my international group, I would have found a different property. When I first arrived, the hotel seemed nice enough, albeit the service was less than desirable. Within 5 minutes of checking into my room, I could hear talking in the hall, quite loudly from inside my room, beside the bed. Since I was very close to the elevator, I was concerned with late night noise from returning guests. I called the front desk, asking for a different room and was met with a sarcastic response. I ended up keeping the room because I was not guaranteed that any other room would be quieter. They did promise me ear plugs, which took them hours to deliver. To their defense, they did bring a tray, with an eye mask, chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of wine. I am not sure if they were truly apologetic for their lack of customer service, or they realized that I was a meeting planner. We also had a conference attendee travel from Japan for our conference and they lost his reservation and bumbled that too. I would not recommend this hotel for conferences. October 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and very nice room We stayed in the King executive room with a corner window with NW view of the city and the bay. It was lovely! The price was average to high for this city and location, but the price was pretty good for this room. It felt luxurious to be there. Great bed and pillows, clean and well stocked bathroom, great tv and accommodations. We really enjoyed our room. Having available parking is also great but it was pricey at $40/night. This is SF though, so we expected to pay for it and it was very nice not to have to worry about parking down the street or worrying about street parking. The location is great because within a 2-3 block radius there are numerous bars and restaurants. Perfect for our overnight couple night getting away from the kids and enjoying an evening in the city. We did not use the pool or restaurant but had a drink in the bar. There was happy hour on the weekend so that was nice. The hotel gift shop was also very nice. I live in the bay area and saw lots of things I wanted to get for family. The best part of the staff were the cleaning women. We ran into them multiple times getting into and out of the elevators and they were so nice to us. Gave us a warm greeting each time. October 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent staff the staff is excellent. they were all professional and accomodating, from the manager of rooms to housekeeping and the bartender and wait staff. October 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent reception Lets get the negative out of the way......During our 17 day travels in Canada and the US, we stayed in 8 hotels/motels - some very modest - before booking in with you and in 7 of them we had free access to a computer. You could do better! We liked your location, ameneties and especially Mr Baker who booked us in. We arrived early - 12 noon - and Mr Baker went out of his way to get these two tired travellers in a room.....he made our day! October 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice and comfortable rooms. Nice welcome. Very polite and service oriented front office staff. Cosy and clean room with nice view. October 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed and space room Clean and space room; Good view of the city; convenient location. Everything is fine except shortage of bell boys! October 7, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by my favorite hotel in SFO This hotel staff is very friendly, and it is in a good location!! So, I always stayed this hotel when I visit to SFO. This time, they prepared us the nice room on top floor.. Thank you! October 7, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Customer Service I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past couple months and have experienced a very mixed bag of customer service. My last stay was by far the worst. Several times I was told a special request was not possible even though they had fulfilled the same request before. Special requests such as a feather pillow from room service have taken up to 2 hours to fulfill and my last request was only fulfilled after three phone calls and a trip to the front desk to speak to the manager. This hotel books many, many large tours and consequently there are constantly tour buses outside, often blocking the taxi stand and the entrance to the hotel. On my last trip, I tried getting a taxi from behind the taxi stand because a bus was blocking the actual stand. I hailed a cab who was pulling up to the curb just as the bellman with another customer in tow sequestered the cab and put the other customer in the cab ... my cab. He then hailed another cab for me and left me on the curb. The cab driver would not pick me up, saying he was going the other direction so there I stood without a cab or any help whatsoever. I then spoke with someone at the front desk who promised to "take care of" me. Another 15 minutes and still no cab in sight. I finally ordered my own Uber black car and after at least 45 minutes of hassle, was on my way to work, paying double the price of a cab. I will not be staying in this hotel again. October 6, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by You Never Know What You'll Get Not every week is bad at the Holiday Inn, but this week was interesting. Not all rooms are cleaned equally. This week, underwear from the previous inhabitant was left in the shower. I was, to put it mildly, grossed out. October 6, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable stay Stayed for 3 nights, had two adjoining rooms on 18th floor with connecting door which was useful for our family vacation. Van Ness Avenue is busy road with constant traffic noise at all times, but to be expected in city centre. Comfortable rooms, in-room safe was useful. Check in was professional. Car park is expensive (but par for the area). Only had a car for one night and car park was marked as full, which on inquiry we found was to deter non-residents parking. As it happened there were plenty of spaces. Found hotel further from main attractions that we'd thought. However the cable car terminates outside which was very handy after day out seeing the sites. And it looked like a regular trolley runs down to the main piers. October 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not comfortable room The internet access did not work all the time. Did not get proper support to resolve the issue timely. The room did not have proper window curtains. Sun shine directly into the room and it was very difficult to work on the desk facing very bright window. September 30, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Room was not ready When I called one day before arrival for early check, the representative said " I am all set for early check in". But, when I arrived at hotel, the room is not ready and the person at counter was so rude and said " room is not ready as they were busy yesterday". No further explanation provided on this. I tried explain on I talked to the person yesterday about this. Then, the staff at Front-desk said " room is not ready as they were busy yesterday". If they were busy yesterday, when I called , why did they confirm that room will be ready for early check-in?. Front desk staff was was so reluctant and some folks can't speak proper English. I am so disappointed my stay at this hotel. The restrooms close to lobby was so horrible and smelling crazy out there. Counter top where Vanity was attached was broken. September 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and knowledgeable staff This is the second time we have stayed at the Holiday Inn in San Francisco on VanNess. We stay here because we can walk right out the hotel's door and there is the trolley stop. The two ladies that work in the gift shop are highly knowledgeable of the area and very helpful. The rooms have been remodeled nicely since our last stay. We like the area because there are great little restaurants around this area. The next time we stay, we will definitely choose this hotel. Great place, rate this hotel A++++. September 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Had a great stay Stayed here 2 nights during Oracle OpenWorld and really enjoyed it. The room was clean and a good size. The staff was attentive and very helpful. September 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Location The location is good if you don't mind being a little off the beaten path. It is on a cable line, and there are many fabulous restaurants in the area all within walking distance. September 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed and 2 side window view It located me at corner of the room which able me to view extremely perfect scene with known of real San Francisco City in day and night time September 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff, comfortable but Friendly staff, comfortable but the location is the negative point September 25, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NIce hotel and front desk staff. Cleaning people, not as much. This hotel is nice, clean and conveniently located. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, as were the restaurant staff. The food was what you expect from any hotel. The room was clean and had a nice view, but a little small for the price. Parking, as everywhere in San Francisco, is expensive. My biggest complaint is that the ladies who clean the room came into the room two of the four mornings while we were in the room. Once, they knocked, and while we were saying we were in the room, they came in anyway, then apologized and left. One time, they just opened the door and came in. They did not clean very well, either. There were things left that were not moved or cleaned, spots on the counter that were never touched. Used drinking glasses, some rinsed and sitting by the sink, as well as some with a bit of liquid still in them, were not removed the entire stay. I could hear them cleaning other rooms while talking on their cell phones for quite some time. With the exception of the cleaning crew, the hotel was nice. I would look at other options, but would consider staying here again. September 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel spoiled by staff attitude and lack of service The above says it all if possible avoid. Bad experience at check in even though we booked well in advance ou party was split across three floors and we only needed three rooms. Even though it was one booking ref that was supposed to be prepaid at time of booking and this was confirmed they had no record of this and preceded to take 3 separate payments all with a security deposit. Lady at reception grasp of English was at best limited. Rate booked included breakfast but beware this is Buffett only not menu so you end up paying more than you would off of the menu on the day. Even worse was the fact that at time of booking and checking they knew that our party would be leaving at 6:30 on the final day but the breakfast doesn't start until 6:30 didn't stop them taking the money. We only found out on the final day when we went down to eat. Experience was not much better on checkout stuffed a bill under the door early but this was not a bill only an advice you still had to check out it turns out that even though they take your money at time of booking or in our case checking and it is shown as taken on bank statement they say that it is only held and that they perform a final callulation when you leave September 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ok but not outstanding We stayed in San Francisco-Golden Gateway Holiday Inn one month ago for our honeymoon. It was the first stop in our trip around the world. We booked a Corner Bay View Room in order to have something special for our special vacation. The room was great. The breakfast was fine. The service at the breakfast was good. But it was bad at the reception. When we had questions, they were answered unfriendly or bored, or sometimes the answer was wrong or not helpful (we had only typical questions asked by tourists). Furthermore, there was not even the smallest extra for us honeymooners - a little chocolate on the pillow with a compliments card would have been enough, does not cost a lot and does not take long time, there was not even a "happy honeymoon" at the welcome desk... So all in all the experience was ok, but not outstanding. September 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great spot to stay! I stayed here by myself to attend a 2 day workshop held at the hotel. As a woman I felt completely comfortable and safe here. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The room has a bit of a spartan and modern feel, but everything was extremely comfortable. The room looked out toward the ocean(in the distance), and I could also see the bay. The staff was personable and helpful. My requests for a quiet and higher room were accommodated, as was my request to have later check-out on my last day. One important feature was that I felt safe and relaxed the entire visit. This was an extremely convenient site for me, due to the conference I attended, but if visitors wanted to be right downtown they might be disappointed. Still, it is centrally located for Golden Gate Park, downtown the Embarcadero, and Fisherman's Wharf, and the cable car line runs adjacent to the hotel. I would recommend this to any visitor. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hotel REALLY enjoyed our stay! Room was very clean, and had modern amenities. Bed was very comfortable! Hotel staff were very helpful upon check-in. Asked if it was possible to upgrade from 2 double beds to a Queen, and we were told no problem. Upon entering the suite were very nicely surprised with a King size bed (we really appreciated it....thank you!). Hotel is very close to cable cars, street cars, and bus routes. No problem getting around, as front desk kindly provided us with a map showing all the bus routes, and hotel gift shop recommended a 3 day bus pass (which we bought for $22 each). We were only there for 3 days, so it was perfect! Front desk also provided us with a list of local restaurants, which was very helpful! All in all, a wonderful stay! Would highly recommend this hotel, and would of course stay again! September 23, 2013
