RICH SHANGHAI HERITAGE DELIVERING OLD WORLD CHARM IN MODERN LUXURY STYLE
InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin, formerly the State Guest House of Shanghai, has a rich heritage having served Chinese historical figures such as Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai. During the War of Liberation, the hotel was the headquarters of the Communist Party in Shanghai. The classically styled hotel is centrally located along tranquil Ruijin Er Road, close to Huaihai Road’s luxury retail, the quaint shops at Tianzifang, and the trendsetting Xintiandi bars and restaurants.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Incredible Location and Lacklustre and Expensive Service This hotel has a fantastic location! For those who like to walk, the French district is all around the hotel, where hours can be whiled away. The Bund is nearby via Taxi, but walking inwards to the Shanghai Museum puts you within a stone's throw of the hotel once again! While staff are generally courteous, they have extremely limited language skills outside of Chinese! There is the odd exception, but rather rare. On this trip, we spent time at Intercon properties in Beijing, Xian and Chengdu before arriving here - and the difference was stark! As I am a Platinum Card holder, we got room upgrades at all properties. Xi'an & Chengdu upgraded us to Club rooms as well. In Shanghai we were given a choice - pay for breakfast and upgrade to Club - which we did. But what we found rather horrific was that the price of breakfast for two was almost 50% of the room rate that we had booked! And as we discovered, prices were pretty horrific for other services as well, such as airport pick ups or drops - circa 5x taking a Taxi! All of which may have been fine if we felt that we were being looked after well - but there was no warmth.... Pity - it remains an incredible location! 14 February 2015
