"La Vieille Charité", was designed by Pierre Puget. Begun in 1671, it was completed in 1745, its function was to house the poorest of Marseille. The building has 4 wings that open, cloister-like, unto the inside courtyard, with a Baroque style chapel. It was classified as a historic monument in 1951 and has been recently restored.

The FRAC (Contemporary Art Museum) is situated in the heart of Marseille's oldest district, "Le Panier". It's aim is to make known and maintain contemporary art in the Provence region. Please ask the concierge about current exhibitions.

One of the largest cathedrals built in Europe in the 19th century.(roughly 135m long, like Noah's Ark!) Built between 1852 and 1893, its interior is adorned with mosaic floors and red-and-white marble; the exterior is Romano-Byzantine in style. The “Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée (MuCEM)” - in English "The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations" is a fantastic new national museum! Located close to the Vieux Port of Marseille, the MUCEM will open in May; just in time for the summer season of the Capital of Culture. Never before has an entire museum been specifically dedicated to Mediterranean culture. The new building was designed by the renowned architect, Rudy Ricciotti!

The "Palais Longchamp", with its marvellous fountains, was created to celebrate the construction of the Canal de Marseille, and was the reception point for water from the Durance river for the city. It houses the musée des beaux arts and the natural history museum. Rich in history and culture it offers a most enjoyable visit. The surrounding park is ideal for a tête à tête or a family picnic.

The Corniche in Marseille is home to the rich and famous! It's easy to see why! Stroll along the boardwalk and revel, body and soul, in the spectular view. Enjoy a refreshing drink at one of the many bars along the way. The Frioul islands are clearly visible from the shore.
