Also known as Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple is the highlight of Amritsar. Built in 1604, the upper floors and dome of the temple are covered in real gold. Its construction was mainly intended to build a place of worship for men and women from all walks of life and all religions to come and worship God equally.
