City Hall and Golden Hall

The town hall is one of Augsburg's main attractions and the city's landmark. The most important secular building of the German Renaissance was built by Elias Holl between 1615 and 1620. The Golden Hall, which was built there until 1624, is one of the most impressive representative rooms in Germany. It is particularly famous for its magnificent, pompous portals, coffered ceiling and wall paintings.

Perlach Tower

The Perlachturm next to the town hall is one of the tallest buildings in Augsburg. It was built from the 10th century onwards and was raised by Elias Holl between 1614 and 1616. The viewing platform on the 70-metre-high tower provides a spectacular panoramic view over Augsburg - with views as far as the Alps.

Fuggerei

The oldest existing social settlement in the world was donated in 1521 by Jakob Fugger "the Rich". Today, 150 needy Catholic citizens of Augsburg live in the 140 houses of the terraced housing estate. They pay an annual (cold) rent of 0.88 euros for the flats, which are around 60 square metres in size. In return, they say three prayers a day for the founder and the founder's family.

Augsburg Cathedral

The Augsburg Cathedral, also known as the High Cathedral or St. Marien Cathedral, is one of the most visited sights in Augsburg. It is the cathedral of the diocese of Augsburg, whose origins date back to the 8th century. The Romanesque and Gothic cathedral St. Marien fascinates with impressive frescoes, a Romanesque crypt, prophet windows from the 12th century and four panel paintings by Hans Holbein.

Basilica St. Ulrich and Afra

The Basilica of St. Ulrich and Afra was built between 1474 and 1603/12 and is one of the last large late Gothic church buildings in Bavarian Swabia. The important furnishings include the funeral chapels of the diocesan saints Ulrich, Afra and Simpert as well as five Fugger chapels. The impressive building is highly visible and is one of Augsburg's landmarks.

Schaezler Palace

The Schaezlerpalais was built from 1765-1770 and is the most important baroque gallery in Germany. The highlight of the rococo city palace is the magnificent ballroom. Marie Antoinette, later Empress of France, danced at its opening. Augsburg's art collections and museums display Baroque paintings in the rococo building, including works by Rubens, van Dyck and Tiepolo.

Augsburger Puppenkiste (Puppet Theatre)

Since 1948, the Augsburger Puppenkiste has been performing fairy tales, plays and cabaret in the historic Heilig-Geist-Spital. With many television productions since 1953 (Räuber Hotzenplotz, Der Löwe ist los, Jim Knopf, Urmel), the puppet theatre has become famous throughout Germany. Today the building also houses the puppet theatre museum "die Kiste".
