Take a day trip over to Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of our crown jewels here in Newfoundland. Just a scenic 25-minute drive from our hotel, this national park offers adventure at every turn. From the dramatic fjords to the otherworldly Tablelands, you'll feel like you're in an epic film or nature documentary. Take a boat tour through a glacial lake, hike trails that offer amazing views, or just soak in the beauty all around you at this national treasure.

Only a 5-minute drive from our hotel in Deer Park is the Newfoundland Insectarium, a fascinating sanctuary and museum for bugs, both living and preserved. Wander through rooms filled with rare and colorful insects, check out the Insectarium's working beehive, or enjoy the flutter of butterflies in the tropical garden. It's fun, educational, and way more interesting than you might expect. (Hint: don't miss the leaf-cutter ants!)

Walk just over 500 metres from our hotel to Deer Lake Beach, a favorite spot among locals and visitors alike. With soft sand to sink your toes into, calm waters to wade through, and mountain views to enjoy, the beach is a perfect place to enjoy a sunny afternoon. Families love the playground and beach toy library. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, rent a kayak or paddleboard to explore the lake!

Marble Mountain Ski Resort is an excellent place to visit for three reasons. First, the drive along Deer Lake makes for beautiful scenery for all 30 minutes. Second, Marble Mountain has the highest vertical point on the Atlantic side of Canada. Third, it's an epic place to visit during any season, with runs to race down in the winter and hiking to enjoy in the summer.

Take a peaceful day trip to Big Falls in Sir Richard Squires Memorial Provincial Park for a unique Newfoundland experience. The falls offer something too many people don't get to witness in their lifetime: Atlantic salmon leaping upriver from June to August as they prepare for spawning season. There's more than salmon here, too, like hiking the wooded trails or enjoying a picnic in this beautiful provincial park with friends and family.
