The town of St Albans is 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel. A visit to the Verulamium Museum reveals what life in Roman Britain was like through hands-on displays. Take a free guided tour of the imposing Norman St Albans Cathedral, with its 11th-century bell tower, to learn about its contrasting architectural styles. In summer, the nearby Butterfly World makes an interesting visit for the kids.

Spend an afternoon on the slopes at the Snow Centre, an indoor complex five minutes' drive from the hotel. There are skiing and snowboarding classes available to suit all skill levels, from beginners to freestylers looking to perfect their tricks. Apres ski, you can try some traditional Austrian dishes in the Alpine log cabin-themed restaurant.
Non tornare a casa senza
Harry Potter fans can go behind-the-scenes at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, a 15-minute drive from the hotel, on the site where the much-loved films were made for a decade. Explore original sets like Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Great Hall, and view costumes and props up close before trying a cup of butterbeer in the backlot. Tour tickets need to be booked before visiting.
Fancy a walk? Head towards town along the leafy towpath of the Grand Union Canal. A 30-minute stroll takes you to Hemel Hempstead station, where you can cross the canal and stop off for a pint and a bite to eat at the waterside Fishery Inn. From here the historic town of Berkhamsted is a short train journey away. After exploring Berkhamsted Castle, it’s a short train ride back to Apsley station.
