Mt. Jefferson State Park is open every day, with the exception of Christmas Day, however hours vary by season. Picnic facility includes 19 tables and 8 grills, 6 handicap accessible tables and a picnic shelter with fireplace, large grill and drinking fountain. The beauty and diversity of the natural area is best seen from one of the 5 trails, including the child friendly TRACK trail! Ashe County Cheese is Carolina's oldest cheese plant, producing quality cheese since 1930. You can watch the fascinating process of cheese being made from the viewing area. Be sure to check the cheese making schedule beforehand. Visit the cheese and gift shop, where over 20 varieties of orginal Ashe County Cheese are sold, as well as their own county butter, homemade fudge and fresh cheese curd, as well as ther fine cheeses, local wines, gifts, souvenirs, and old-fashioned snacks and candles.

Visit the paintings of the renowned Fresco artist Ben Long! The Frescoes are in two locations, one in West Jefferson @ St. Mary's and one in Glendale Springs @ Holy Trinity. Both locations are open 24/7, with services on Sunday's @ 10:00am and Tuesday's @ 5:30pm. Mr. Long's first fresco series was done at St. Mary's in West Jefferson and was completed in 1974. The second fresco at Holy Trinity in Glendale Springs was completed in 1977.

The West Jefferson Art District is home to nurmerous gallery crawls, downtown murals, & concrete pedestal art. Throughout the summer months, the gallery crawls are a great opportunity to mingle with artists and do some shopping. They are held from 5-8 pm on the second Friday of the month June thru October. The Ashe Arts Center features local and regional artists & holds rotatating gallery exhibits, concerts, special speakers, holiday events, fundraisers, and outdoor arts and craft exhibitions.

Ashe County is a great location to find your family's Christmas Tree. There are more than 10 choose & cut farms in the County. They offer a terrific choose & cut experience that are fun for all ages. The Ashe County Choose 'N' Cut specializes in growing the "cadillac of Christmas trees" - the "Majestic Frasier Fir" Christmas trees. Ashe County is also the leading producer of Christmas trees in the United States. 12,000+ acres produce 20 million+ trees annually.
