Nearby Cirencester was the site of the second-century Roman city of Corinium Dobunnorum. Cirencester's Corinium Museum is just 25 minutes' drive from the hotel and houses Roman antiquities, as well as objects from the Neolithic Age through the Victorian period. The museum contains an excellent array of Roman mosaics, but most displays are objects representing everyday life during Roman England.

You can go for a run along the paths or wander through the expansive staterooms of the restored Lydiard House, which dates to Elizabethan times. The walled Georgian garden contains a variety of flowering plants and fruit trees, and visitors can purchase heirloom stock.
