Positives
Bed comfy food excellent staff friendly and try hard but are not trained properly Pools are lively and plenty of dinners and umbrellas and lovely quiet music to listen to
Negatives
No draw or cupboard in bedside table no mirror/dressing table to sit to make up in bedroom no plug in bathroom area and lighting poor to make up to Not much to do in evening only bar open is rooftop bar and it plays a lot of jazz otherwise no entertainment Music around pools was often overshadowed by staff using chain saws to cut trees and builders making a noise
A really good hotel in the making

I was aware that this was a newly refurbished hotel. All staff were helpful, some just a bit new to hospitality I suspect but with scope to improve. Food choices both at breakfast and dinner were very appealing and of very good quality. Just let down with the hot selection at breakfast being consistently cold. The gym was amazing and a highlight of our stay. The Wi-Fi was a little lacking at times and the T.V. in the bedroom frequently had the circle of doom with the picture frozen. Overall, a really pleasant stay and yes, we would return.

Clean and recently renovated.
Punch list items from renovation are incomplete (unbalanced doors and nail anchor for towel holder coming out of wall)
Understaffed and slow service.
WiFi is spotty.
Has access to Sao Rafael beach (public) but hotel has nothing to do with chair/umbrella rentals.
Lucas was friendly and great service. Lady who welcomed us to social hour was pleasant.
Elizabeth the “concierge” was rough around the edges and completely unhelpful. She seems to pick and choose who she wants to be helpful to.
Honestly the best part of staying at this hotel was the proximity to the Sao Rafael cafe at the beach that is operated by two brothers, Marcus and Eduardo, and has nothing to do with the hotel. Excellent food and service, great view/access to the ocean. They seem to also operate the beach chairs and umbrellas.
Offered a lot, delivered little.

The hotel appeared to offer a great deal, and having stayed in many Kimptons, was looking forwrd to the stay. Sadly, the reality of the stay was very different.
At check in, our room was not ready. We told to wait around the hotel and we would be called. Two and a half hours later, no call, we returned to reception and the room had been ready for some time.
Breakfast each day was a shambles. Long wait to place order for drinks, sometimes that were processed, sometimes not and had to be given again and on one o cassion incorrect drinks brought. Some members of staff very personable and offered good service, others extremely slow and appeared they would rather be elsewhere. Breakfast experience ensured dinner was never taken at the hotel.
Hotel seemingly unable or willing to understand or apply IHG One Rewards scheme, both during stay and after check out with no response to calls and emails.

This was a beautiful property both in design and location. I give the atmosphere, friendliness of staff and cleanliness 10/10. I didn’t want to leave!

I don't generally share reviews but felt inclined to at the end of my holiday (23/06/25) our room was 448 for reference. Generally, the hotel is absolutely beautiful. We booked as a result of friends who are Kimpton members & their high recommendation of Kimpton hotels, however, in honestly it wasn't the standard we expected from the experience of our friends or the price - it was highly disappointing.
- Our room was meant to be garden view, it was actually a view of the main road
- On arrival we gave the code 'Social Sent Me' as per recent social media post by Kimpton - person checking in didn't know what this was & never followed it up.
- On arrival the check in was extremely slow, we were also not offered arrival drinks (noted others being offered this following day)
- Poolside service was not really there, there were pool waiters but they didn't do rounds, you often had to go to bar or go looking for them.
- We were not made aware of poolside menu, overheard from another customer that there was one on day 5
- The toilteries in the shower area were not filled for arrival or any day after(shampoo etc)
- Construction works ongoing twice throughout breakfast extremely noisy over balcony area above restaurant
- At breakfast - twice we were not offered breakfast menu or had order taken for ordered dishes or teas/coffees
- VERY slow service, unco-ordinated. The woman that hosted breakfast was lovely, but there was 0 co-ordination with waiting staff looking after areas, it was a free for all whoever picked you up. We went down 1 day there was no juice, and no one assigned to manage refills. 19/06 - The chef was shouting at the 2nd chef infront of customers.
- 19/06 - Fire alarm test, no warning or message given into room
- Left room at 10am each day, 3 times not serviced by 4.30pm, we had to go and find housekeeping to service the room
- Asked for a plastic bottle of water for pool side, was sold one already open
- Generally really not the standard I expected from a kimpton hotel , very disappointed.
Two nights too many

My wife and I stayed at the Kimpton Atlântico in the Algarve, Portugal for a two night stay. The staff at the hotel was nice, but poorly trained. We arrived about 11:30pm after a long travel day. Our ocean view room that I had booked in advance and confirmed by phone earlier that day, was not available. I got no explanation of why, simply that there was a problem and it wasn’t available. Late at night, tired, I had to speak with 3 different people to get a simple confirmation that my room would be changed to the correct room the next day and that we would leave our bags packed and they would be moved while we were out touring. They said they would reduce the rate to the pool room rate instead of ocean room rate. I thought that was insufficient for the aggravation and inconvenience, but I wasn’t in the mood for anymore discussions, I just wanted to get to bed. We left early in the morning and returned about 3:30pm. It took 20 minutes at the front desk to find out that they’d moved us to the correct room and our bags were already there.
It turns out the A/C was broken and they got it repaired the next day. I understand that things happen. I don’t understand why they couldn’t explain it, tell me what they were going to do to compensate me for the problem and make it right.
We had breakfast the 2nd morning. Lots of stations at the buffet, but many were sparse or empty. By the time they came around to refill them, we were done and didn’t get what we wanted to eat.
It’s a very nice property, but I would never go back there again. My experiences at Kimpton Hotels has always been very good and that’s what I expected here. Unfortunately it was not even close.

This place beautiful and still a work in progress. I think they opened a bit prematurely because they didn’t want to loose on the season. There are still areas that are under development and staff still being trained. With that said, there was a pool guy (who was Asian) taking care of the pool as far as food, drinks, opening umbrellas, collecting towels, etc. I hate to write something bad, but he needs a lot of training and or put him in another position. The poor guy was a mess. Brought out wrong food, lost tickets, didn’t understand the menu or what we were ordering had to point and spell
It out for him because he literally had no idea what we were talking about. The restaurant food was amazing!! What great flavors and staff there. Honestly, aside from it not being fully functional and the pool guy, this was perfect. Steps to a beautiful beach with caves and amenities. I would love to come back to this hotel when it’s fully opened. The pools are great and there is a small kids pool so it’s super family friendly. Spectacular views from the roof top bar are a plus!

The hotel has only recently opened & there are obviously some teething issues. and Overall the hotel accommodation, grounds and interiors were fabulous. The majority of the staff were very pleasant and attentive. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice. Grounds were beautiful and well maintained . Perfect location for the walk down to the beach directly from the hotel. Social hour was a good opportunity to meet other guests.
Housekeeping was poor during the 1st 3 x days of our stay as we believe there was a staffing problem and contract cleaners were hired. There was no Spa or Al La Carte restaurant open although it was advertised prior to our booking. Also no air conditioning in the gym.
The sunbeds were very low and uncomfortable as there were no mattresses.
No replenishment of cream/milk for the coffee machine in the rooms, unless you requested it

We stayed at kimpton hotel, Algarve Portugal for 4 days. It was great staying there! It was very clean, very quiet, relaxing, very welcoming, helpful and respectful staff, loved having freshly cooked breakfast which was delicious!!! I would recommend this hotel to family and friends
