Surrounded by great restaurants, walkability, and metro stops. I love older hotels that retain their old school charm and a feeling of going back in time. This is not a cookie cutter hotel but a solid, beautiful, destination in its own right.

I recently stayed at the Kimpton Monaco Hotel in Washington, D.C. The location was incredibly convenient, especially with easy access to the Metro, which made getting around the city hassle-free. The room itself was excellent—clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The housekeeping staff were consistently kind and attentive, and their friendliness was a definite highlight of the stay.

However, the front desk experience left much to be desired. Upon check-in, I was surprised to find that the deposit required was significantly higher than the cost of the stay itself. Having stayed at higher-end hotels that don’t impose such charges, it felt disproportionate to the overall value offered. Throughout the visit, there was a noticeable lack of hospitality at the front desk. We were not greeted when coming or going, and upon departure, I ended up checking out through the app as there was no one available to assist in person.

Overall, it was an okay experience. While the room and housekeeping were fantastic, the customer service at the front desk did not meet expectations. For a property at this level, I expected a more welcoming and guest-focused experience from start to finish.

Not Clean!

I stayed there 2 nonconsecutive nights. The first night the music from the restaurant vibrated the bed, so we switched rooms. In the second room, I went to crawl into bed and felt something hard at my feet...it was curled up tissue next to a fresh (unwashed stain) and pubic hairs...you can infer. The linens were changed. The next stay a few days later we had to change rooms again due to a horrible odor. The second room was fine but was billed an additional $289.88. I talked to a manager who stated that is was a cleaning charge from a dog accident. My service dog is trained to ONLY "go" on command and trained to hold it up to 24hrs....additionally, I fully check the entire room before leaving each hotel to ensure I have everything and know the condition it was left.....there were no accidents. The manager claimed they have proof, so I asked for that to justify the charge, but I was told they cannot send that out....hmm: how convenient for them to charge for their uncleaned rooms!

Pay good money to stay in a dark and damp basement

A uniquely bad experience. Guest rooms are in the basement with little/no windows or natural light. They are also damp (poor AC circulation?). After complaining, we sampled 3 separate rooms... all equally bad. Not a fluke.

Location of hotel was convenient to everything DC. Staff was super helpful. Parking deck is beside hotel if you prefer not to use valet parking for 1/2 the price. Beautiful rooms

Great location. Historic buildings. The staff was fabulous. My only complaint, the mattress was not great. Lumpy, odd, uncomfortable.

Room with no windows

I have booked King Premium room and assigned a room in the underground with no windows. When I asked for a change of room, I was told there is no other room available. However people checked-in after me got room in the higher floor.

There was no information about the basement room while making reservation. totally disappointed with the service, I will never go back to this hotel and do not recommend to any one.

That we were charged for wifi, and other accommodations..we didnt use per day that should be an option not an automatic charge,. Check is at 3pm.. we shouldn't have to wait.. 30 to 40mins

If you are a fan of the artistic styling, then this is the hotel for you. The lobby itself was breathe taking. This historic theme hotel was he most relaxing, comforting hotel I have ever been to. The guest was friendly and polite, the dining was absolutely amazing. The room was very cozy, and the noise level was top tier. No complaints from me. The location was perfect because everything was walking distance from the downtown area for sightseeing. This was my second time staying at one of these locations, my first one was in Miami and that was amazing. I am definitely booking the Kimpton whenever I am in the DC area.

Hotel is lovely, wonderfully located to the National Mall and all attractions.
On-site restaurant and bar is very good.
A beautiful hotel with wonderful decor that is 5 star quality.
Decor and design is excellent for social media posting.

The hotel is old, and the staff are half cold and half friendly. The location is excellent.
