Start your day with a stroll around vibrant Circular Quay, exploring old wharfs, promenades and the picturesque Sydney waterfront. Pause for a coffee and shrimp sandwich in an open-air cafe, and then wander over to the Eucalyptus-scented lawns of the Royal Botanic Garden. The Rocks is the city's historic district, where British ancestors first stepped foot. Meander its enchanting cobblestone lanes for handmade clothing, jewellery, gourmet goods and artwork depicting the Australian landscape.

For a truly memorable afternoon, our Concierge can organise a private tour of Sydney Harbour. Aboard a sleek yacht you will experience the city’s landmark buildings from a unique perspective. Alternatively, take to the air on a seaplane. A range of flights depart from Rose Bay, including trips to Sydney's gorgeous Northern Beaches. For fashionistas, the 19th-century Queen Victoria Building houses over 180 chic boutiques, and art lovers will be in their element at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

For our Club InterContinental members, there's nothing quite like sitting on the hotel's wrap-around 270 degree view balcony and enjoying uninterrupted views across Sydney's Harbour icons. From this breathtaking vantage point, watch as the Harbour becomes awash in rose and golden hues. Evening is the perfect time to sample the Sydney Opera House’s world-class cultural program, including theatre, ballet and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Enjoy a gourmet dinner in the hotel's bountiful buffet restaurant, Cafe Opera. Alternatively, ask the Concierge for local dining recommendations.

Sydney is known for its multicultural diversity. There are over 200 nationalities represented in Sydney's population.

  • Fort Denison

At 1pm every day, a canon is fired from Fort Denison to indicate the time to Sydneysiders. This practice started in 1906 and continued until World War II when it was stopped for fear of alarming residents. It was only started again in 1986.

  • General Post Office

All distances to Sydney are measured to Sydney's GPO, located at Martin Place in the CBD (Central Business District)

  • InterContinental Sydney

InterContinental Sydney was built in 1985. The hotel was constructed around the heritage listed New South Wales Treasury building, built in 1849.

  • The Rocks

The Rocks district was named after the formation of land it was built upon. The sandstone found in the area was used in many of the original buildings in Sydney, including InterContinental Sydney.
