Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Home away from home! Over the last 2 years I have stayed at Candlewood Suites a couple dozen weeks. Having stayed at other hotels in the area previously, Candlewood Suites is always my 1st choice. I have found their staff to be professional, responsive and friendly. The suites are very clean and functional with the most comfortable beds, and a full kitchen, complete with full sized refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, coffee maker, pots/pans, dishware and utensils allowing me to shop locally and prepare my own meals, keeping my expenses down. The eating area also doubles as a work station with free Wi-Fi. The large pantry is always open and well stocked with a variety of salty and sweet snacks, frozen meals, fruit, ice cream, beverages, and coffee bar. And if you should want to go out, the area has a wide selection of restaurants and shopping, some within walking distance. You just can’t beat the value at Candlewood! August 15, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Room was infested with fleas. Manager unresponsive. Each year we generally spend about 40 nights at hotels and resorts. Most of our trips last at least 7 days. Until we discovered the fleas, we thought this hotel and this room were in great condition. The location was very convenient for us. We have enjoyed past stays at other Candlewood Suites. We enjoy the full kitchens and free internet access. However, in the future we will not stay at any locations that allow pets and we will specifically request "pet free" accommodations. We do not own any pets. The fleas were discovered in our hotel room at around 10:00 pm Monday, August 5th. We immediately notified the front desk. Since the hotel was completely full and no other rooms were available, we spent a sleepless night in the room itching and scratching and generally feeling creepy crawly all over. We moved everything out of the room at 6:00 am the next morning. We had to put all the suitcases and belongings in the car because the desk clerk said they did not have any place to keep our bags while we waited for the new hotel room. Later in the day, we were able to check into a room at a nearby hotel. We stayed there for the remainder of the trip. It has been over a week since we left the hotel and the manager has still not contacted us nor apologized. Every attempt to reach him by phone or by visiting the front desk have been unsuccessful. The only communication from him was a written letter placed under our door in the middle of the night. The letter offered to move us to new hotel or give us 50% off our room for the next three nights. Offering us half-off as if fleas were just some minor inconvenience that we could live with for a few more days is simply unbelievable! The flea infestation was so bad, that when the front desk clerk and the maintenance manager inspected the room around 7:00 am Tuesday, August 6th, live fleas actually jumped onto our legs within seconds of walking into the room! Yikes! And to think we had already spent three nights in that room before we made the discovery! Again, we were charged full price for our entire stay and have not received any type of refund or any other offer of compensation from the manager. None of the staff on duty had any authority to help us. All they could do is offer voice mail or to take a message. August 13, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by overall stay This is the worst Candlewood ever stayed at, most of the people staying was working at BP refinery, everyone given different rates, each staff member you talked to gave you a different answer or they coulnt give you an answer, would have to have manager get back to you a day or 2 later. They didnot want construction workers there, felt totally unwanted there, poor management, would never stay there again. Stayed at Southfield, Michigan, candlewood for 4 months, was the best stay, these people should go get lessons from them on how to treat people, even if we are construction workers. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Place to Stay During Family Vacation! My husband, my children, and I travelled to the Merrillville area to visit family this Christmas. Our children were 2.5 years old and 2 months old at the time. The hotel was clean and accomodating. Our suite was large enough to sleep all of us, including a port-a-crib for our baby, and a pull out couch for our 2-year-old. There were nice flat screen TVs in both the bedroom and the living area with DVD players, so even after oyr eldest daughter went to bed, we could still watch TV in the bedroom without disturbing her. Also we were pleased to find that the bedroom and living room both had lined curtains that block out the sun easily, allowing our daughter to sleep in later (..Which, to us, is very important! We have stayed in hotels before with sheer curtains, and our daughter has woken up at the crack of dawn with the sun.) The kitchen is fully furnished, including pots, pans, dishes, silverware, glasses, and even carving knives. However, there is no oven, only a stovetop. January 2, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by broken tub, coffeemaker and smoke in hallway The faucet in the tub/shower fell off as soon as it was touched. If I had been in the shower, it would have fallen on my foot. The coffeemaker pot was not the right size and coffee spilled all over the countertop. The worst was the distinct smell of smoke on the 3rd floor. At one time, you could even see the smoke hanging in the air near the elevator. November 8, 2012
