Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay Convenient suites with clean bathrooms and comfortable common areas. I'm not a big fan of the cupboard idea, charging for some amenities (e.g. toothbrush etc.) that used to be complimentary. But the staff are very nice and competent. December 11, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Very Disappointed! We stopped on our way through to Florida and were very disappointed in the overall upkeep and cleanliness of this hotel. I have never been in a dirtier room. There were stains on all the walls, especially the bathroom. The kitchen area had dust, spiderwebs in the cabinets. We found a crushed dead cockroach! The beds were very uncomfortable (too hard) as well. There needs to be a serious overhaul of the facilities and the quality of housekeeping at this site. We have always had good luck with IHG properties and expected the quality we have found at the Holiday Inn Express hotels we've stayed at. If it had not been late when we arrived and only staying overnight, we would have looked elsewhere. December 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean hotel, Great Service, but Overpriced The Candlewood Suites in Charleston can be considered an average to below average hotel. The hotel does allow animals, but does not keep them in certain rooms. Any room is open to availability for an animal to stay in. This is a problem, because of allergies and reactions to pet hair and urine stains. The hotel is over-priced for the quality, I would expect at a Candlewood suite hotel. Being in Charleston, S.C. and it being a tourist town, should not automatically mean you must pay 'top dollar' for an average room. The room was spacious, but did not have sufficient furniture in it to warrant such a large room. The inclusion of a sofa in the room would allow a more relaxing experience. The staff at the desk were friendly and professional. I experienced one incidence of a dog barking, but with the amount of animals in the hotel, I would consider this minor. If you absolutely need a hotel and are willing to pay more than you should, then this is the hotel for you. November 22, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable, but room for improvement The rooms are big but there is not much to it beyond that. The one toiletry offered in the room was already used, the bathroom was mostly clean but not in sparkling shape, and there is no fast check out or breakfast offered. Overall though, a nice night's sleep and convenient. Would stay again depending on price. November 13, 2014

Not up to par with other Candelwood suite I stayed at. The staff was very friendly and really tried hard to please. November 12, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Really Disappointed We arrived at 11:30 after a long day of traveling. The hotel put us in a room on the 4th floor. As soon as we walked in we could tell this had been a smoking room. It stunk. The clerk said the room was recently renovated, but nothing gets the smell out other than a complete re-painting with new carpet and new furniture. The clerk moved us to the second floor, but the AC didn't work. By this time it was after midnight. I went downstairs to the desk only to find a sign that said the clerk was "helping other guests." She came in about 30 seconds later and reeked of cigarette smoke. She'd been outside having a cigarette. She came upstairs and fiddled with the AC unit. She "reset" the unit and it finally started. It was almost 1 a.m. by that time. The next day I asked the desk clerk for some extra coffee packs. She could hardly be troubled to move from her place on her stool where, from what I could tell, she was playing some game on the computer. She said she'd have some sent up. About an hour later the handyman came to the door with two coffee packs he took from another room. All in all, I was very disappointed in the staff. They were well below the standard I've come to expect from Candlewood. Next time I come to Charleston I'll use the Holiday Inn or the Express. November 11, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lack of Kitchen Supplies I prefer to cook when traveling, and the kitchen had very few supplies. There was one pot without a lid, one skillet, and one fork, spoon and knife. I could also hear everything in the rooms next to mine, and I mean everything. Earplugs were a must. November 11, 2014
