Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not Bad Accodomodations for Business I'll start with some positive things. This hotel is a bargain. It is so cheap you would really expect it to be filled with unsavory characters instead of subdued business travelers. The suite is set up for people who have work to do. The work desk had ample space for my two work laptops, printer, and other office supplies. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are numerous DVDs at the front desk free to borrow if you have some downtime. The hotel has free laundry facilities. The closet in the suite is very large. There is a nice common area downstairs that is great for meeting with colleagues. Finally, the hotel is very close to many different restaurants. For all of the positives, there is a reason why this hotel is so cheap. It has pretty good complimentary coffee but there is no free breakfast. The hotel suites could really use a renovation. Everything from the carpet to the furniture could stand to be replaced. If you are only going to be working, sleeping, and would like to have a kitchenette to make quick meals, this place will do just fine. If you plan to spend a lot of downtime in your hotel room, you should probably find a hotel with more desirable rooms. October 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good location We were in Topeka for a race at Heartland Park. The hotel was in a good location close to stores and restaurants. The only negative was that someone before us either cooked curry or someone blessed the room with really nasty holy water. There were cross smears on a few of the walls and nothing would know the smell down. Despite the negative the staff was very friendly and the room was clean. October 22, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Could be better but it'll do for a short stay When I go to Topeka to visit family there I generally stay at Candlewood. I have 3 reasons I stay here: * The price is reasonable * Good location - shopping and food within minutes * Kitchenettes are decently equipped I have 4 reasons I'll stay across the street at the Holiday Inn Exp: * You smell cigarette smoke as soon as you step out of the elevator * The cable/satellite for TV is flaky (last stay it didn't work at all; guy at the front desk told me to "just bang on the side of the TV but if that didn't work he didn't know what else to have me do") * No full, hot breakfast (yes, I know I can make my own but that's not the point here) * Rather apathetic staff On the last morning of my last stay I woke with a bad migraine. I knew there was no way I'd be able to check out on time so I let the front desk know. Did they care? Nope. They charged me for another full day even though I checked out around 2:45. Was the place full? Nope. Was it that big of a deal the room did not get cleaned that day? Nope again. I'm planning to talk to the IHG Rewards people to see what they say about this. October 11, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient Location The Candlewood in Topeka is conveniently located close to I-70. In fact, too close. If you are a light sleeper, like me, a room facing the interstate is not going to be very comfortable. The rooms are sufficient but nothing special. The desk chair in my room was in very poor condition. Internet is complimentary as is coffee. If you are looking for basic and relatively inexpensive, not a bad choice. August 18, 2014

The suite had plenty of room, a kitchen, and the hotel offers a guest laundry. For those who have been on the road a while, this is a good convenience. I was so happy they made room for me after another hotel where I had reservations experienced a power outage due to a huge storm. July 10, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cleanliness is declining The past three consecutive stays at this hotel, there has been hair in my room that doesn't belong to me or my partner. I'm not too peculiar when it is one or two, as long as it's not my bed or my towels. But this past time there was numerous hairs in the bathroom. I don't care if you bleach the bathroom completely, hair should not be present. I love the cost oft the hotel and the convenience, and even the staff, but I don't think I will be staying here again for a while. It is not that hard to clean a room, especially when you are being paid to do so. Sorry, that is just me. April 8, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Happy Staff Overall I enjoy going there. Chris at the front desk is a very pleasant individual, always courteous and attentive. I stay a week at a time so I have gotten to know the staff and when I arrive in the evening its always pleasant. The room is very dated, and the bed did seem to be rushed through being made when I arrive. That's somewhat my only negative. A plus is I smoke and they have a smoking floor. I like the fact I can go down and get a snack without having to drive to a convenience store as well as I can make my own dinners (staying a week at a time). Overall experience is a good one and I will continue to go here. April 5, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ehhhh... I can't say that our stay was horrible, but I can certainly say it wasn't great. My overall takeaway from our stay was that we were an inconvenience for staying there rather than an asset that brought them revenue. We booked our room on points, which does not allow for choosing a bigger room. Earlier in the day of our reservation, I called ahead to see if they had any upgrades available, as we were traveling with a 2 year old. First I was told we don't upgrade on Priority Club points. And then they said they did not have a 2 room suite available for upgrade but she said she had a bigger room with two queens or one king. I said I'll take the room with two queens, and thanked her for the help. When I went to my room, it only had one queen. When I called down, the guy at the counter told me that is all they had and that they had given my room away. Which is why I called ahead. In the evening of night two, I ask for late check out. He said I would have to ask in the morning because it just depended what house keeping would allow. Really…..? So I ask in the morning. He said no problem. We went to church with family, then lunch, then came back. While we were packing (around 11:30), they called our room and ask when we were leaving. We said we had requested late check out. The guy said "oh yeah, I forgot". March 12, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff The staff are friendly and willing to accommodate needs. Check in and out was expedient. Room was clean and beds comfortable. I had a non-smoking room but the smoke smell seeped into the rooms and the halls wreaked of smoke. Candlewood needs to send smokers outside and make it a non-smoking facility. Non-smokers should not have to smell or breathe in smoke! January 28, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jayhawk Traveler This place needs major management help. None of the requests I made were received or even noted. First room we went to, had dirty sheets. Moved to a different room. The bed was ok, but the toilet and the bathtub were filthy. The TV in the bedroom is really small, and old fashioned. We have a dog, which I had to sign my life away to stay with us. Believe me when I say my dog is much cleaner than this room was. Did a load of laundry and needed hip waders to get to the machines. If I owned this property, the management would be replaced. There was not any management on duty when we arrived, or when we left. The other Candlewood Suites we have stayed at have been very enjoyable. We will never stay here again. January 2, 2014
