I was surprised that I was laughed at for getting locked in the bathroom, and that staff didn't offer me any kind of compensation for my experience.
The TV was located on the wall beside the bed which made it difficult to watch a movie.

Spent two nights in a King Club Room. Room nice, but not what I had expected, looking on-line. Service impeccable. Complimentary Mumm Chapagne and red wine a lovely touch.. Would definitely say again.

I had a wonderful time at the Intercontinental The Rialto in Melbourne.
-Everyone was very kind and helpful.
-Room was very clean, comfy and quiet.
-Room service very quick and a large choice of food and beverages.
-Breakfast was very good too.
The building itself is just beautiful !
Thank you all for the nice stay, I wish i could stay longer than just one night !
If I may suggest, I would recommend the hotel to have a dedicated place for smokers (roof terrace? back yard?...). It's not very pleasant for those who have this bad habit (smoking) to be on the street under the rain !

This was my first time visiting Melbourne and the Intercontinental Hotel .I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff. Loved having a Nespresso in the room. Health Club and pool were also great. Best part was staying on the Club floor and being able to use the lounge for breakfast and drinks. Would definitely stay there again.

Since the first step out of taxi, you are the focus of this IC. Door man recognize you the first sight, maybe thanks to the small tag on my luggage with my surname on. This is really enjoyable greeting. Your status will be recognized and rewarded with qualified service. This IC is definitely not the best IC I experience from hardware, but for sure one of the top 3 with the staffs hospitality. Highly recommend.
PS the 25 dollar buffet is of good quality as usual IC standard, and really good price compared to the Crownw plaza's 32 breakfast.

This is an excellent hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. Very nice staff and the Club Lounge was very nice.
We were in a Junior Suite which, unfortunately, had a serious problem with its air-conditioning/heating system. The hotel's technical staff spent several hours attempting to fix the problem on the Friday but were unable to rectify it. Nothing further was done during the weekend. As it was quite cold in Melbourne the room could not be warmed up and stayed at around 17/18C throughout. This was tolerable at night but not very comfortable otherwise. Hotel staff were very concerned and assured us that the room would not be rented until the problem is fixed.

My partner and I stayed last weekend and we cannot fault one single thing, the staff were amazing, the service unsurpassed, considering it was Melbourne Cup Race Week and Derby Day during our stay, the staff did not show any sight of being overloaded with request and accomplished every need with a smile. We have renewed our Ambassador membership which we highly recommend.
The room was perfect and as for the breakfast and other dining areas was just fabulous.......
I have travelled extensively and highly recommend Intercontinental Melbourne for all the boxes to be ticked!!!!!!!
Thank you all staff including the behind the scene staff (room servicing) for your excellence in service and warm reception.

The Hotel is very nice. It is very comfortable and very well located in the CBD as it is close to almost all facilities in the city centre.
The staff were excellent; very helpful and polite. The only downside was that the room was rather dimly lit due to the building having all internal facing rooms with no natural light entering.

A 5 star luxury hotel offering 5 star service you normally get overseas. I don't think Australia does 5 star like they do it in Asia. Having travelled extensively through my business, the experience at the Inter Continental was everything I was hoping it would be. This trip was a lleisure trip with my family. All staff were wonderful. The room was cleaned properly every day...not just some of the time like I have experienced in other hotels. The reception staff were friendly and offered late check out without me asking for it.

The fact that I have stayed with Intercontinental Rialto in Melbourne on at least 6 occasions over the past year, I feel, places me well versed to honestly comment on this superb 5 star architectural heritage hotel which oozes in charm and character. Its rich history featuring its 19th century venetian-style exterior facade is one the best on the planet, and from a location point of view, it is well positioned in the heart of fashionable Collins Street, yet also within easy walking distance to many areas including Southern Cross Station, and the Southbank precinct. From the moment you are greeted by the friendly doorman, to stepping inside to reveal a beautiful and soaring glass atrium, you are immediately immersed and surrounded by unsurpassed and unrivalled old world charm and character. I have stayed in several different room types of varying sizes, and all of them are excellent featuring all the comforts any discerning guest would want or expect. In all the times I have stayed there, I have always been treated with genuine warmth by the exceptional and very professional staff, and I have never encountered a problem, and nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for them. Their buffet breakfast in Alluvial Restaurant is also fantastic, offering a wide choice, and the many bars located within the complex, including Bluestone and Market Lane, offer a very ambient place to enjoy a drink. Whilst this hotel does not provide a view of the Yarra River or city skyline, which I know that some visitors to Melbourne might prefer, overall, I can only honestly state from my personal experience that it is hard to find fault with any aspect of Intercontinental Rialto, and I would definitely recommend it, especially anyone who appreciates a bit of history and charm from a bygone era.

I have stayed in most of the big hotels in Melbourne, but this was my first time at the Intercontinental; it wont be the last.
The Staff were outstanding as the face of the business; the HR department is to be commended for its personnel selection.

Coming in from Sydney staying same group, I can't help but make comparison!
Firstly, the lobby is small and understaff.
I asked for free upgrade as I was given 2nd floor the recept claim it is already upgraded but later I realized its not true.
Every time I come back to hotel, I was not given the same warm feeling I got from Sydney, it's cold, no smile and lobby looks deserted!
Room is normal, decent and comfortable but much smaller than Sydney room, especially the toilet shower space!
Room make up....no free bottled water, no night turn service and not packing my used clothes unlike Sydney where they will fold nicely for me!
The good thing is breakfast is pretty decent and location is simply great.
It's just near to everywhere and the hotel Italian food is good.
If I have not paid so much or I did not came straight from Intercontinental Sydney, I would probably have lesser expectation and lesser complain.

My wife and I stayed at the Rialto for one night and overall it was a positive experience. We were offered a late checkout without us asking which was appreciated. The room was nice, clean and comfortable. There was some noise at night from the vacuum cleaners cleaning the downstairs bar/restaurant which was a bit annoying. The margarita at the Market Lane Bar was a great way to while away the evening in quiet and comfortable surrounds.

We had a great time at the Intercontinental Rialto. It was quite close to town, but not so close that traffic noise kept you awake. It was definitely within walking distance of most major attractions (eg aquarium, CBD, Southbank).
We found the staff very helpful - except when it came to recommending shopping destinations. We got some great recommendations on how to get to places, where to eat but as far as shopping went, we went on a couple of wild goose chases so perhaps this could be an area upon which to improve.
Most nights the hotel was quiet, however, one morning we were awoken by an Italian guest speaking very loudly on the telephone for an hour at least - in the room next door. Another night, we were kept awake by a social function in the open area entertaining area and another morning, we were woken by loud music playing on the internal speaker system. So I think with the layout of the hotel, with a void in the middle, and all rooms surrounding that void - the hotel does need to be more mindful of the noise carrying. Not much they could do about the noisy guest next door but the other two issues. Entertaining in large groups would best be undertaken indoors.
The breakfast was fantastic - one of the best buffets we have had - and we have travelled a lot. The rooms was clean and comfortable and room service was very prompt. One night we did order dinner in the room though, and it was all cold. So that could be improved upon as well.
Everything was very lovely and we would definitely stay here again. Just a few minor issues but overall, it was a great experience.

I love staying at the Rialto, Melbourne. It is, my FAVOURITE hotel to stay at when I come up to Melbourne. I love the beds, they are so soft and luxurious, and they are obviously huge KING size!! I also must say that I love the dark block out curtains. I have stayed now in an outward and inward facing room and both times I have found the rooms brilliantly dark for a great nights sleep. I find this hotel is very quiet and not in a busy or noisy part of Melbourne. I love the breakfast at the restaurant down stairs. The overall renovation is a highlight to the by-gone heritage of Melbourne. What now makes my visits even more memorable to rialto, was that my boyfriend just proposed on our last stay there.

Upon checking in the staff member excitedly informed me that I had been upgraded. I am currently an Ambassador member so this was not surprise to me.
I am not sure where the upgrade was to jump in.....the bed was uncomfortable, my room was next to a service lift which was noisy all night - thus very little sleep (interestingly my dinner tray was still sitting outside my door in the morning) and when I had my shower in the morning low and behold a long black hair was on the white tiles.....my hair short and light brown.
I dont usually complain but I have had a recent spat of hotel rooms which have not been up to par and this was the icing on the cake.
Second night, second room....still needed a good cleaning (dirty marks on the bathroom walls) but I was so tried from the night prior I just didn't care.
I went to the restaurant around 11am to try and grab a quick bite to eat as I had missed breakfast and was told that I had to sit at the bar and pick something from the bar menu. As I was being moved to another room I was unable to go to my room and order any room service breakfast. I had a very limited choice of bar food and ended up with a BLT and pot of tea. I waited over 40 mins for my food and when it did arrive it was cold. I was at the point where I was hungry I just ate it!
Overall rating for Melbourne .....disappointing!

From arrival to departure we were extremely impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of all the staff. While the hotel itself has great facilities and is clean and conveniently situated, the quality of the staff was what made our stay enjoyable. We also appreciated getting a late check out when we asked for it with no extra charge.

1. the room on level 6 had lights from outside and the blind could not block it. It woke me up earlier that it should be.
2. the concierges after 6 pm did not show any ????? when guests returned to hotel.

This is our third visit and it won't be our last. We've stayed at over 30 Intercontinental establishments across the world in the last 18 months and the Rialto would be in the top five of the best.

My colleagues an I spent the one night and we were very impressed at the friendly service of the hotel staff. Right from start of check in until checkout the next morning the staff looked after us all the way and ensured we weren't lost in the hotel. We were lost at one point having made a reservation at a restaurant and did not know where to go we stopped by Alluvial and asked Ash to assist us he gave us step by step directions, made sure we knew where we were and as we were running late an even called the restaurant for us to tell them we were on the way. He was extremely helpful even though he was looking after the patrons at Alluvial. Everyone was so nice to us. Unfortunately Alluvial did not have enough vegetarian options for my other 2 colleagues otherwise we would have dined there. Thanks so much also for my room upgrade - thoroughly impressed with the beaautiful room. Intercontinental is our corporate prefered hotel and it will definitely be my personal preferred hotel also.

Our stay was lovely as the rooms are beautiful, quiet and luxurious. We had a swim, used the heated bubbling spa and Sauna. On this part we enjoyed our stay and really unwound but that is where the joy reached its peak. Our stay was somewhat let down by the food and lack of knowledge by the staff in room service and the Restaurant. We waited about 20min just for two slices of gluten free toast after asking 3 staff members where it was. The room service menu had gluten free options but when we called for these we were told that they were not in fact gluten free at all. The food did not have the same wow factor as the hotel itself. Breakfast was perfect and I have to say it was one of the best I have had. I would stay based on the rooms and amenities but would find other places to eat in a city known for its food.
