Melbourne The Rialto

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 476 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Memorable Melbourne Experience This hotel is spectacular and I would recommend it to anyone. The design (which incorporates an old warehouse) is highly appealing, and the breakfast buffet is to die for. My only complaint was that, as a foreign traveller, I had trouble figuring out some of the switches in my room. A little primer for international travellers might be helpful. 06 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfort and Luxury in the centre of Melbourne Excellent welcome from Chris in the Concierge team. Disappointed that despite being a Platinum Elite, and booking a Club room, no upgrade or other benifit was offered as has been at all my previous IHG group hotels. Room quiet and comfortable Staff very helpful and attentive 05 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Some good some bad Attentive staff who genuinely wanted to assist. Stayed before on points and was made to feel very special. Went back ( paid) and greatly dissapointed with front desk who basically said that my IHG status of Platinium Elite meant nothing at the Rialto only Ambassador Club. What a wonderful way be be welcomed! Interesting that I stayed at Intercontinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu France in June and was truly welcomed as a IHG frequent and loyal customer. 05 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Intercontinental in Australia Had a great viist at the Intercontinental in Melbourne. Great hotel, great people. Very well done interior and beautiful hotel. The doormen were very helpful and during our stay on a hot day, the one gentleman offered us a bottle of water he had at the front foor before we left on our shopping adventure. Very nice; we appreciated the service!! We definitely be staying at this hotel in the future. 05 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A 40th birthday to remember 4 of our party of 7 stayed at the Rialto for week on our trip to Melbourne to celebrate my big birthday. We couldn't have chosen a better hotel! The staff were very helpful, the concierge extremely knowledgeable and the front desk a delight. By the way, I can't recommend the breakfast highly enough in Alluvial. The chef that prepared my omelettes every morning put up with my odd ingredients requests and prepared the best start to my days, I could have had :) I look forward to returning, as do my friends and wife. Thank you. 01 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff attitude Stayed in the hotel for the first time but am regular user of Aussie hotels and hotels through Asia and US. Aussie approach to customer service is functional, gets the job done but I always get the feeling whether I am happy or not is unimportant. Not the case in this hotel and maybe that is why I am writing. The service and staff approach to making me feel valued as customer was equal to anywhere I have stayed. This will always be my hotel in Melbourne. 30 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Once again another fantastic stay!!! We often stay at the Intercontinental Rialto when we visit Melbourne either for business or pleasure. We are never disappointed in the service we receive right from the moment we arrive. We are always very lucky to be greeted by Cliff. He is an absolute delight and the front of staff at check are just so polite. I highly recommend this hotel for your stay whether it may be for business or pleasure. 26 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by staff exellent the staff were always very friendly and willing to help. great stay. 24 November 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No GUARANTEED Room Upgrade Everything was ok not excellent and the advertised GUARANTEED ROOM UPGRADE for Platinum Members was not correct there was no Upgrade 24 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional accommodation. Intercontinental The Rialto in Melbourne provides excellent accommodation and service in a charmingly restored and converted building in the heart of the city, 24 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Superb suite design and furnishings. We stayed in a junior suite which was beautifully appointed. A very quiet room despite being in the city centre. Lovely staff and polished service. Definitely one to return to. 23 November 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Locked in Bathroom I was surprised that I was laughed at for getting locked in the bathroom, and that staff didn't offer me any kind of compensation for my experience. The TV was located on the wall beside the bed which made it difficult to watch a movie. 20 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great as always Home from home comfort! Making business a pleasure! 19 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Impeccable Service Spent two nights in a King Club Room. Room nice, but not what I had expected, looking on-line. Service impeccable. Complimentary Mumm Chapagne and red wine a lovely touch.. Would definitely say again. 18 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent I had a wonderful time at the Intercontinental The Rialto in Melbourne. -Everyone was very kind and helpful. -Room was very clean, comfy and quiet. -Room service very quick and a large choice of food and beverages. -Breakfast was very good too. The building itself is just beautiful ! Thank you all for the nice stay, I wish i could stay longer than just one night ! If I may suggest, I would recommend the hotel to have a dedicated place for smokers (roof terrace? back yard?...). It's not very pleasant for those who have this bad habit (smoking) to be on the street under the rain ! 17 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great visit This was my first time visiting Melbourne and the Intercontinental Hotel .I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff. Loved having a Nespresso in the room. Health Club and pool were also great. Best part was staying on the Club floor and being able to use the lounge for breakfast and drinks. Would definitely stay there again. 17 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Special experience one shall enjoy in Melbourne Since the first step out of taxi, you are the focus of this IC. Door man recognize you the first sight, maybe thanks to the small tag on my luggage with my surname on. This is really enjoyable greeting. Your status will be recognized and rewarded with qualified service. This IC is definitely not the best IC I experience from hardware, but for sure one of the top 3 with the staffs hospitality. Highly recommend. PS the 25 dollar buffet is of good quality as usual IC standard, and really good price compared to the Crownw plaza's 32 breakfast. 14 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very cold room This is an excellent hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. Very nice staff and the Club Lounge was very nice. We were in a Junior Suite which, unfortunately, had a serious problem with its air-conditioning/heating system. The hotel's technical staff spent several hours attempting to fix the problem on the Friday but were unable to rectify it. Nothing further was done during the weekend. As it was quite cold in Melbourne the room could not be warmed up and stayed at around 17/18C throughout. This was tolerable at night but not very comfortable otherwise. Hotel staff were very concerned and assured us that the room would not be rented until the problem is fixed. 13 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely friendly staff. This was our first wedding anniversary and could not have asked for a better or friendlier place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and I felt very welcome 12 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Congratulations Intercontinental Melbourne My partner and I stayed last weekend and we cannot fault one single thing, the staff were amazing, the service unsurpassed, considering it was Melbourne Cup Race Week and Derby Day during our stay, the staff did not show any sight of being overloaded with request and accomplished every need with a smile. We have renewed our Ambassador membership which we highly recommend. The room was perfect and as for the breakfast and other dining areas was just fabulous....... I have travelled extensively and highly recommend Intercontinental Melbourne for all the boxes to be ticked!!!!!!! Thank you all staff including the behind the scene staff (room servicing) for your excellence in service and warm reception. Krystalla & David 05 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent service we enjoyed our stay and were very impressed with the friendly and attentive service of all staff 01 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and facilities The Hotel is very nice. It is very comfortable and very well located in the CBD as it is close to almost all facilities in the city centre. The staff were excellent; very helpful and polite. The only downside was that the room was rather dimly lit due to the building having all internal facing rooms with no natural light entering. 29 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 5 star luxury at its best!! A 5 star luxury hotel offering 5 star service you normally get overseas. I don't think Australia does 5 star like they do it in Asia. Having travelled extensively through my business, the experience at the Inter Continental was everything I was hoping it would be. This trip was a lleisure trip with my family. All staff were wonderful. The room was cleaned properly every day...not just some of the time like I have experienced in other hotels. The reception staff were friendly and offered late check out without me asking for it. Highly recommend... 28 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SUBLIME OLD WORLD CHARM The fact that I have stayed with Intercontinental Rialto in Melbourne on at least 6 occasions over the past year, I feel, places me well versed to honestly comment on this superb 5 star architectural heritage hotel which oozes in charm and character. Its rich history featuring its 19th century venetian-style exterior facade is one the best on the planet, and from a location point of view, it is well positioned in the heart of fashionable Collins Street, yet also within easy walking distance to many areas including Southern Cross Station, and the Southbank precinct. From the moment you are greeted by the friendly doorman, to stepping inside to reveal a beautiful and soaring glass atrium, you are immediately immersed and surrounded by unsurpassed and unrivalled old world charm and character. I have stayed in several different room types of varying sizes, and all of them are excellent featuring all the comforts any discerning guest would want or expect. In all the times I have stayed there, I have always been treated with genuine warmth by the exceptional and very professional staff, and I have never encountered a problem, and nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for them. Their buffet breakfast in Alluvial Restaurant is also fantastic, offering a wide choice, and the many bars located within the complex, including Bluestone and Market Lane, offer a very ambient place to enjoy a drink. Whilst this hotel does not provide a view of the Yarra River or city skyline, which I know that some visitors to Melbourne might prefer, overall, I can only honestly state from my personal experience that it is hard to find fault with any aspect of Intercontinental Rialto, and I would definitely recommend it, especially anyone who appreciates a bit of history and charm from a bygone era. 25 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful stay This hotel is the best in the C B D and the staff went out of their way to be so helpful at all times Our whole stay was fantastic and the rooms were wonderful I could recommend this hotel to everyone who is staying in the C B D of Melbourne out of 10 I would say 100 Thank you for a wonderful stay C Townsend 24 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Staff I have stayed in most of the big hotels in Melbourne, but this was my first time at the Intercontinental; it wont be the last. The Staff were outstanding as the face of the business; the HR department is to be commended for its personnel selection. Regards, gd 24 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great service The service is just excellent However? I do realise that the carpets are dirty. even though how clean they are? it will stll get dirty easily. It would be much better to do away with the carpet! 23 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nothing but a perfect score to this hotel!!!! Highly recommended from a world traveler!! The staff is amazing the hotel is modern yet has the classical look from the original building!!! Don't even think twice just book it! It in a perfect location as well! Happy travels 22 October 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just not as good as Sydney Intercontinental Coming in from Sydney staying same group, I can't help but make comparison! Firstly, the lobby is small and understaff. I asked for free upgrade as I was given 2nd floor the recept claim it is already upgraded but later I realized its not true. Every time I come back to hotel, I was not given the same warm feeling I got from Sydney, it's cold, no smile and lobby looks deserted! Room is normal, decent and comfortable but much smaller than Sydney room, especially the toilet shower space! Room make up....no free bottled water, no night turn service and not packing my used clothes unlike Sydney where they will fold nicely for me! The good thing is breakfast is pretty decent and location is simply great. It's just near to everywhere and the hotel Italian food is good. If I have not paid so much or I did not came straight from Intercontinental Sydney, I would probably have lesser expectation and lesser complain. 19 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent location & great service Hotel is walking distance to central Melbourne , service of staff is excellent. The doorman/Consiege gives you an upmarket fill of what you expect from from an inner city hotel. 18 October 2013
