At the heart of our neighborhood is the late 9th century Church of St Lazarus. Located in its own square in the town centre, the magnificent stone church of Agios Lazaros is one of the most remarkable examples of Byzantine architecture in Cyprus and lies over the tomb of the saint. Next to the church is the Byzantine Museum, which exhibits important religious icons, artefacts and relics and after your visit you can relax in one of the cafes or restaurants in the square.

Larnaca’s most famous promenade the “Finikoudes” Beach is a 600-metre long stretch that combines coast, entertainment and culture along its palm-tree lined length. The Marina with its pier and fishing harbour is on one end of the strip and the Medieval Fort is on the other. The beach provides all the facilities you will need throughout the day, whilst the strip is lined with cafes, bars, restaurants, kiosks, hotels and entertainment establishments. The town’s main shopping centre runs parallel.

Larnaca Salt Lake is the second largest salt-lake in Cyprus. During the winter, the lake fills with water and is home to migrating birds, including thousands of flamingos, wild ducks and other water or shore fowl that find refuge here year after year on their migratory journeys. When visiting Larnaca Salt Lake you will get the chance to see the historic mosque Hala Sultan Tekke that was built approximately around 648AD and then renovated in 1816 and 2002.

Located at the end of the Finikoudes Promenade, the Medieval Castle of Larnaca (also referred to as Larnaca Fort) is believed to have been originally built during the Middle Ages, and took its present form during Ottoman rule, although there is some contestation regarding its origins.

Zenobia, ranked one of the top 10 world wreck dives, was a fully loaded Swedish ferry when she sank in Larnaca’s fishing harbour in 1980. Nicknamed ‘The Titanic of the Mediterranean’. She lies on her portside on a flat bed of sand and rocks, 1.5km from the shore, and is now a protected artificial reef, with many species of fish making it their home. If you are not a diver but wish to view the wreck from above, glass-bottom boats from the Larnaca Marina offer daily trips to the site.

This beautiful 18th century aqueduct can be found on the road heading towards Lemesos (Limassol) in the area of Kamares, it takes its name from the distinctive arches (‘kamares’ in Greek). It’s an open-air sight that was built in Roman style in 1746 and was sourced to carry water. The aqueduct was abandoned in 1939 and its function was replaced by modern pipes. There are more than 20 arches still intact, and these are strikingly illuminated at night.
