There’s also a visitors center and shop, plus they offer guided hikes year-round. The best time to see waterfalls, viewable in 14 of the 18 canyons, are in the spring when the snow and ice melt.

Joliet, IL is the closest larger city to the resort, less than 45 miles away. If you get a chance, catch a show or concert at the Rialto Square Theatre there. The stunning historical theater is close to 100 years old. On a different note, the Chicagoland Speedway is always a great time and, from NASCAR races to great tailgating, it’s a great vacation attraction to enjoy.
