The Phaya Thai Palace was built by Rama V in 1909. King Rama VI then lived at the palace until the later years of his reign. King Rama VII ordered the palace be converted into an international hotel. The Phya Thai Palace then became the location of the first Thai radio broadcast station. Later, after a change of government, the palace became a clinic for the Royal Thai Army and has since changed its name to the Phramongkutklao Hospital.

Bangkok's famous palace and royal residence was originally built in 1782 and features numerous architectural marvels, including Wat Phra Kaew, or Temple of the Emerald Buddha, carved from a 66cm tall block of jade that dates back to the 14th century. The Palace is still used for official events; several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. 

Originally a modest flea market, Chatuchak Market has become the world’s largest outdoor shopping site and is very popular among Thai residents and visitors alike. Shop local producers and vendors on goods such as antique wood carvings, books, handicrafts, Buddhist amulets, furniture, benjarong porcelain, ceramics, trendy fashions, Thai designer fashions, accessories, and silk from across Thailand.

Undeniably exquisite Buddhist architecture can be found at Wat Phra Kaew, or Temple of the Emerald Buddha. In fact, the site contains more carvings and decorations per square centimetre than any comparable site in the world. Bare shoulders, shorts and sandals are not allowed.

From the hotel, It’s only a short walk to Bangkok’s largest park. A good time to visit is just after sunrise or later at sunset. Bangkokians take advantage of the park's relatively cool and quiet times to practise Tai Chi, do aerobics or jog around the picturesque lakes.

One of Southeast Asia’s largest aquariums is only a five-minute walk from our hotel and is located in the Siam Paragon shopping mall. The attraction features 8-meter high tanks, glass tunnels and shark-feeding shows.

A visual feast, Pak Klong Talad, which translates to "market by the mouth of the canal,” is the collective name for five adjacent sites that have merged to become a single wholesale market for flowers, vegetables and fruit. Open daily for 24 hours.

Asiatique the Riverfront night bazaar is located at Charoen Krung Road along the along the Chao Phraya River. Apart from upwards of 1,500 shops and restaurants, the bazaar also features Thailand’s longest riverfront boardwalk, which stretches for 300 meters.

Home of Bangkok’s famous reclining Buddha, Wat Pho (or Wat Phra Chetuphon) is one of Thailand’s top six temples. Located behind the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, it is one of the city’s largest temples and most known for its giant reclining Buddha that stretches 46 metres long and is covered in gold leaf. Wat Po is also a perfect place to experience a traditional, and quite affordable Thai massage.

Located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun, famous for it 79-metre-high central spire and often called Thailand’s Eiffel Tower, is considered to be one of the country’s most beautiful temples. The spire is decorated with tiny pieces of coloured glass and Chinese porcelain.
