InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu
Awaken to a refreshing sea breeze, and the smell of fresh coffee and croissants. After breakfast in our beautiful hotel, you can discover Mediterranean history at the landmark MuCEM museum, a 10-minute walk from the hotel overlooking the sea at the entrance to the Vieux-Port. Nearby, you can also view the art on show at the Musée Regards de Provence. Take a stroll around the Vieux-Port and browse the boutiques for typical local products such as Savon de Marseille (soap) and lavender.
Try a glass of pastis as an aperitif, before enjoying a lunch of fresh fish or seafood in the Cours Estienne d'Orves, a 15-minute walk from the hotel. This broad plaza on the site of a former maritime arsenal is home to a cluster of bistros and fine restaurants. After lunch, take a boat trip from the Vieux-Port to Calanques National Park. Cruise past the rocky, white cliffs and promontories that rise out of the sparkling Mediterranean down the coast to the laid-back fishing village of Cassis.
Glorious sunsets and expansive seascapes can be admired from the magnificent Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica, which stands high on a hill overlooking Marseille. A quaint little train takes visitors from the Vieux-Port up to the basilica. For dinner with a local twist, take a 10-minute taxi ride down from the basilica to the nearby coastal village of Vallon des Auffes. In one of the restaurants overlooking the sea, order a plate of bouillabaisse, Marseille’s traditional fish stew.
During your stay at the hotel, ask a member of our team to show you our antique mosaic excavated from the hotel foundations which is now listed by the city's archaeological authorities.
