Folsom Powerhouse State Park

The Folsom Powerhouse is part of a colorful chapter of Sacramento history and is also an example of the tremendous advance in the commercial application of electricity. H.P. Livermore realized that the water of the American River could turn generators for electricity in Sacramento, 22 miles downstream. With his partners, Livermore built the powerhouse, which still looks much as it did in 1895.

This year-round facility is the place to go for all things aquatic, providing everything from recreation swim to swimming lessons and scuba and water aerobics classes. The Aquatic Center’s Olympic-sized pool is outfitted with four diving boards, a water slide, an interactive play structure that includes water cannons and manually-operated spray features. It also includes a warm-water instructional pool. Fun for the whole family.

Folsom Lake

California State Parks will be doing brush removal along the American River Parkway Trail between the Beals Point and Negro Bar park units in the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area beginning Monday February 17, and expected to last through early March. The Trail will remain open during this work, but there may be brief delays to trail traffic as crews remove trees and larger limbs that lean across the trail.

Folsom State Prison Museum

Folsom State Prison is a California State Prison located in the city of Folsom, California. Opened 135 years ago in 1880, Folsom is the second-oldest prison in the state, after San Quentin, and was the first in the United States to have electricity. Folsom was also one of the first maximum security prison and as such witnessed the execution of 93 condemned prisoners over a 42-year period. Folsom is probably best known in popular culture for concerts performed by musician Johnny Cash.
