Shenyang Palace Museum (also known as Mukden Palace) was founded in 1625. It served as the imperial palace for Nurhachi and Huangtaiji, the founding emperors of the Qing Dynasty, before the dynasty moved its capital to Beijing. One of China’s only two well-preserved imperial palace complexes, it covers around 60,000 square meters, blending Manchu, Han and Mongolian architectural styles. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004.
