Fresh look and feel to a great river view hotel

I have stayed in the St. Paul Crown Plaza for a number of years. Love the river view and the proximity to the downtown, but the rooms were aging. The Crown is now experiencing a renovation that makes this hotel so much more attractive, comfortable and enjoyable. As always, the staff is friendly and attentive and now the renovated rooms are fresh and modern. An enjoyable stay in St. Paul.

Comfortable and relaxing

I have stayed in this hotel before. Even in the midst of remodeling, the hotel was accommodating and comfortable. The bathrooms are larger, more plug ins for electronics.

I am familiar with the area, so did not use the concierge service. Ate breakfast buffet in the mornings and it was wonderful!

Remodeling leaves a lot to be desired

This property is currently being renovated. It is apparent that the management is spending lots of money updating this facility. The room design upon entering is fabulous during the day. At night it is terrible as one cannot figure out how to simply turn on the lights to see. From there it goes downhill. The handles on the dressers prevent them from being pulled open as they handle is just a straight piece of wood. Contemporary in style but not functional. The modern thermostat is impossible to read and how it works even I who have 3 modern Nest thermostats could not comprehend. The shower is great and very accessible without a step and a grab bar to get in but then there is not a bar to put your washcloth on nor the soap that is near the shower head. The shelf is 6 feet away at the entry door area. The room design makes great photos during the day but the functionality is very poor.
