This has to be the worst Crowne Plaza experience in the IHG system. It does not live up to the Crowne Plaza brand. I am Platinum IHG member, I've stayed here twice and will never stay again.
This hotel is cursed with the Sleep Number torture device - the cruelest bed ever devised. It is like a lottery trying to find a room without one.
On check in, I was informed all computer systems were down... so no idea which rooms were available. Front desk had to guess which rooms did not have torturous sleeping devices. Additionally, I had yet to check in and not return to the front desk asking for another room. one time due to the beds and this past time due to an unlivable room. Upon entering the room I noticed shredded wall paper, dirty carpeting and plaster strewn all over the room. I felt like I should be renting the place by the hour...
My final room, the carpet was unclean, wrinkled and coming up and appeared dirty. The rooms A/C unit was loud, rattled and unclean, showing black dust lines at the outlet. Additionally, the sound on the tv was not working and I was told to unplug and then re-plug the tv from the back of the set... really?
At Check-out, the front desk clerk, seemed surprised by the condition of the room(s) and informed me there was no Manager on duty to rectify the problems. She even stated they were about to go through a remodel but there are no signs of that taking place. I was given a card to call a manager at a later time. I gave the front desk clerk my card stating that the Manager should be so concerned he/she should be calling me! I've not heard a word...
This place should be AVOIDed all cost.
highlights - fast internet and decent location but there are other places in DT St. Paul which are as convenient but are just not falling apart like this one.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Stevie1953 Needs Upgrading and Stains on the Floor.
This place has an older atmosphere and in need of upgrading. The rooms were clean but the floors and furnishings looked liked something from the 80's. Stains on the carpet in the room made it look like it needed to be recleaned. Pretty expensive place for not being up to OK standards. Location is great and close to many food attractions. Mine and several others that stayed had non-functioning Sleep Number beds......

We loved our stay at the Crown Plaza. We had a fabulous view from the 21st floor, which was beautiful by day and spectacular by night.
The room was clean and comfortable and conducive to a good night's sleep.
The breakfast buffet was outstanding. We had delicious omelets and lots of fresh fruit.
Location is within easy walking distance to the Science Museum, Riverboat rides, and lots of excellent restaurants.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Amanda311 Location was great but room was below standard
Stayed for a weekend getaway. King Room with a river view. Highly romantic expectation. View was nice and location to downtown attractions was great. The room itself was not so great. The bed was nice at best, the carpet throughout the room was lifted and wavy and made the room feel cheap and dirty. The bathroom had no ventilation so the room became a hotbox after showering. The staff seemed helpful, quick, and friendly. The hotel itself was a maze of confusion. I was surprised we found our car when we left. Luckily for us we stayed downtown St. Paul for the experience of the city itself which is amazing! Go to Barrio! Yum! This hotel will serve it's purpose if you need a place to sleep.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JosieK Lousy Floor Location
After asking specifically for a room away from the bottom floor noise so my eight year daughter would be able to sleep, I was unimpressed when it turned out the location we were given actually opened onto the ground floor entertainment lobby. The first night the noise lasted until 11PM (- alright a little late but not horrible)and the second night the noise was unpleasant until well past midnight.
Added to this, the bathroom had paint coming off the ceiling, the exhaust fan was non-working, and the sink stopper required extreme effort to open / close.
Nice hotel location within St Paul downtown but will not be staying there again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SueBet Nice hotel; beautiful location
Crowne Plaza (St. Paul - Riverfront) is indeed right across from the Mississippi River, providing great views. Easy to walk to a number of downtown locations. I attended this hotel for a 4-day conference and found the accommodations, both guest rooms and meeting rooms, to be very pleasant. A clean, quiet, comfortable hotel with many amenities. (No microwave or fridge in room but not a big deal to me.) Overall, very satisfied.

great staff and beautiful lobby. Room was tidy but didnt feel clean. Walls must have been made of cardboard because I could hear the guy next door brushing his teeth. They must have finished the rooms and forgot to put a toilet in because they ended up putting it right in front of the door and under the counter, very awkward. $17 a night for parking in a ramp that nearly took the top of the car off. Nice pool area with large pool deck. The food in the bar was good but the breakfast area could have been better. Bed was comfy but bring your own pillow.
Decent stay but not for the price.

It is very sad to get to an unknown town and ask for information on guest services and reception and people working there do not know the town either.
My point is that a position like this has to be with people who are native from the city or country.
This type of business is very sensitive to service as you may know for sure, is to give service to foreign people and at least I ask for people that speaks well the country native language.
The room and hotel was ok, but the carpet on room was very dirty and full of dirty black spots.

The Crowne Plaza on Riverfront is very, very nice. The rooms are great, the beds are comfortable, and the view is extraordinary. I was able to book a rewards stay from the lobby of the hotel, very convenient (this was after the front desk wouldn't help me, more on that below#.
Now for the bad:
1) You have to pay quite a bit #for MSP) to park at this hotel.
2) The front desk staff was rotten, very rude.
3) The lounge doesn't fit the rest of the hotel, it needs a major overhaul.
In closing, if you don't frequent the lounge, don't care about spending so much to park, and get lucky with the staff...then this is THE place to stay in St. Paul.

Picture this. You go on line to book a room at this nice hotel. You have several choices of room locations to choose from.. I choose a room categorized as being situated in the "Cabana Garden" section. Now, what would you envision? A room overlooking a beautiful garden? Wrong!
We check into a room that has no windows to the outside. I have never. ever had a room in a "nice" hotel without windows looking outside. This room is on the first floor which made it feel like we were in a basement. Instead of any windows we have glass siding doors looking out onto a Banquet Hall! This was our view of the "Cabana Gardens. But that is just the start of our disappointment. There is a wedding going on! No joke. You sit in the room and look out at a wedding reception. You can imagine the scene and the noise. But that is not all. At 5:00 in the morning, people are still out in the "Cabana Garden", shouting obscenities and playing the piano! At 5:00 in the morning!!!
I honestly cannot recall a worse lodging experience. Why would you put people into this room during a wedding? Maybe, if we were in the wedding. And even then, I am not sure. The only reason we did not leave is because my wife is too nice and did not want to make trouble.

Rooms were very dated. The defective sleep number bed put me in a very painful state for a week now. I still can not move without pain. All but one employee were fantastic. Lobby was great and the food at the restaurant is excellent. The front dest person who check me out was not pleasant and didn't seem to care that the bed was defective. No receipt when I checked out is unacceptable. It should have been waiting in my email but no.... I had to call the following week and demand it be sent to me ASAP. Management needs to get their act together.

Room was very nice. Had nice view of river. Bed was very comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking situation was terrible. Hotel had three weddings going on and allowed wedding guests to park in lot. Meanwhile hotel guests, who had already paid for overnight parking didn't have anywhere to park. Walls of hotel rooms were paper thin. You could here the conversations of guests in room next door.

Hello, my family and I enjoyed staying at your hotel and will definenatly be back. The service was great, there were a few things that we asked to be brought up to our room, which were delivered very quickly, but what made it special was that the front desk person called to make sure that we recieved these items. Awesome service. I do have one complaint though, i had to have several key cards made and in one instance I had dropped off my brother and my two kids to go swimming,( I had to be at the Gillettes Hosptal with my oldest daughter for surgery), well the key card didnt work and they couldnt get into our room and the front desk people would not give them another key even though i called and said it was ok ahead of time. Well since they werent let in they had to walk to the hospital in 100 degree weather with my two young chiildren.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bridesmaid They tried but ick!
We stayed here for a wedding and the rooms are TINY. I understand it is an older property and thus, rooms are small. I think for one king size bed, it'd be fine but a room with two full-size is cramped and crowded. Note, they are FULL beds, NOT queen. Our first room had two full Sleep Number beds. Holy ick. The one didn't work AT ALL and was stuck on a highly-inflated setting. It created such a lump in the middle of the bed, two people really couldn't sleep in it. The other one did work, but was still horribly uncomfortable. We asked to be moved to either a suite with or a room with regular beds. The suite wasn't available for the completion of our stay, so we opted for a room without Sleep Number beds. Much better, but still microscopic rooms. The bathroom was TINY. I did visit friends in the Presidential Suite and it was very spacious and nice, although the furnishings were worn and dated. The staff was AWESOME, super nice and helpful. The lobby and hallways were nice and the elevators were lightning-fast. Also, the location was very convenient to the places we needed to be and staff was fabulous about giving directions. Valet service was well worth the price. We had dinner in the restaurant one night and room service at various times and all of that was wonderful. Fitness room was nice, too. Overall, I'd stay here again with just my husband or alone when all we'd need is a room with a king bed. But if you are traveling with kids or others, you really need to book two rooms or be extremely uncomfortable and claustrophobic for your entire stay. And for God's sake, DO NOT book a room with a full Sleep Number bed unless you are sleeping in it alone. Again, a king would likely be fine.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Frustratingweddingbooking Nice place, terrible customer service
I chose this hotel for my wedding block, I literally ended up calling them 100+ times just to get ahold of someone after the block was set up to book my own room and to to try set up shuttles and correct problems my guests were experiencing. At one point I contacted corporate and they told me there was nothing they could do to get the manager to return my calls and that it would be "reviewed with him annually". The hotel kept telling my guests the hotel was full when it wasn't at all (25% full the weekend we were there) so I had to call to fix that over and over again. I was told at one point to avoid this problem we needed to call every day to check if the booking person would tell us it was full, which we did, and we still had problems with guests being told it was full. Emails and voice mails were almost always ignored. Some in my block didn't get the block rate and had to call after the fact to get it fixed. The shuttle person was impossible to get ahold of. It caused a significant amount of anxiety for me, but in the end they did pull through- the shuttles worked out, the hotel was nice. I can't say it was a bad stay at all, but the planning it took to get there was the most stressful part of planning my wedding.
We got the whirlpool suite which was huge and had an amazing view, but the whirlpool was falling apart a bit (cracked off corners, handles that would fall off) and the bed wasn't very comfortable which is just something I'd expect for the cost. Still I had a great time, it was fun to get ready in a huge room with a beautiful view.

i had a late check in for one night. parked in the parking ramp. the arm was broken to get in, so an attendant ran over to me and hand signed a time slip. ok. went around the broken arm and parked on level 2. the entrance doors have a big sign on them saying doors locked between 10pm and 6am for my protection. i tried the door anyway, it was open at 11:30 pm. not feeling too safe. went back out around 1am. still not locked. people walking around everywhere with a big party in the ball room. dont know whos suposed to be there and who isnt. in my room the sleep number bed was flat. looked everywhere, no remote. it had also been unplugged. i called down to the desk, they said they were phazing them out so mine was decomisioned. then why give me a room with a not working sleep number bed? they did fix it by plugging it in and getting me a wireless remote. i didnt get to bed until after 2am after a long night at my wedding reception. i did order room service, the food was really good and on time, and a good view over the river. i just think they need to figure out what they are doing with that hotel. im afraid if they were cheaping out on that stuff what else dont i know about? i hope this helps anyone looking for a hotel.

We decided to have a staycation at the Crowne Plaza to see the fireworks. I reserved a riverview room and really couldn't see the fireworks that well from the angle we were at. However, we could see multiple firework shows from surrounding towns. We ended up going outside the hotel to finish watching the STP show. The room was clean and spacious. The carpet and the furniture seemed dated. The pool seemed dingy but was well maintained and there were always towels available. The water in the pool was warm and it was a lot of fun. The best part of the hotel was the staff. Everyone was so helpful and polite. They really made the stay spectacular.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dan426 Lots of little things
This hotel does not live up to the brand Crowne Plaza. It is badly in need of upgrade. Our room had a tremendous view of downtown, yet the room smelled musty. The air conditioner did not keep the room cool, only dank. The bathroom had no counter space. There is only one working outlet in the bathroom.
We had concierge level access, and the breakfast consisted of cold cereal, a few pieces of fruit, and bland coffee. It seemed they didn't even try to offer something of quality here.
Another small thing. Even though I earned concierge level access with my IHG Rewards status, the staff could not confirm that I actually had the status. It was very confusing.
The parking structure has VERY low clearance. We had a mini-van to park, and the roof struck the warning bar at the entrance. But, the hotel staff said we'd be okay. Well we were, but it was quite stressful to park.
Finally, the parking attendant was drifting off to sleep when we exited the next morning. And, the credit card reader was broken, so she could only accept cash.
Overall, this is not a quality property in the Crowne Plaza family.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Coach51 Great Hotel; Horrible Service (still worth it)
Hotel room; services available and location were excellent. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone/everyone.
Biggest disappointment was the staff and "customer service". We paid extra money for the "couples package" to include sparkling wine, free breakfast and chocolate dipped strawberries... which were not delivered. After confronting the staff, they said it was too late for room service and that they would leave a message for the morning manager to deliver and/or compensate.
... next morning received not even an apology, much less an offer for the re-payment, a free breakfast and/or compensation. I had to demand a refund after no acknowledgements from the manager. (this was through the hotel website NOT an online service.... no excuse for the lack of professionalism).
If you need a nice place to stay in St. Paul; go here... if you want a service/customer oriented hotel check out the "St. Paul Hotel"
(awesome bar and restaurant there)

The St. Paul Crowne Plaza Hotel is beautiful and has a great location for travel and business, easily accessible to all locations that we wished to go to in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. The views from most of the windows were amazing. We received excellent service from the time that we arrived, despite our late arrival time. We were treated respectfully and our room and paperwork were ready. We would like to especially recognize the Valet who was extremely helpful and an excellent source of information.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Jay2689 Misleading Room Title
The room I booked was a "Garden View Cabana" from what it said online. It was the same price as another regular double bed room so I figured why not go for a room with the same amenities but sounds it might be a bit nicer to be in. When we arrived at the hotel the check in process took about 15-20 minutes due to one front desk attendant and a long line. When we finally received the key to the room we realized that our "Garden View Cabana" was not much of a view. The fogged glass doors that look like they would open up into a pool actually opened directly into a conference room where regular guest traffic walked by. There was no garden, pool, even plant close by. Overall I would say that the title is very misleading and instead of looking over a garden or pool we felt more like we were in a display box.
On top of that the toilet appeared to have some cleanliness issues which is also less than satisfactory. I would shop the other hotels in the area next time before booking unknowingly at this location.
