Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by More miss then hit Beautiful hotel with a great location; however, I experienced several issues. When I checked in, the front desk clerk took a couple of minutes to finish her conversation with another employee before giving me so much as a smile or hello. At one point, she asked me if it was my wife that I was with. It felt like she was insinuating something. I cant possibly see why it would matter unless she said something afterwards like I love her shirt. Then it wouldnt have been weird at all. After I got checked in and tried to get into my room, the keys didnt work. I went back to the desk and asked for new keys. She told me "your just doing it wrong" and took them from me and started to walk toward my room. The keys did work if they were held in the door for a few seconds and then removed very slowly. I felt foolish until I helped another guest get into their room because they were experiencing the same problem. She didn't have a name tag on so I dont know her name. Once in the room, I wanted to find something to do. I thought I would start by looking in the hotel directory, but there wasnt one. The blow dryer only works for about three minutes at a time before automatically turning off. Had to wait 3 minutes before it would turn back on again. My girlfriend had to do her hair in numerous intervals because she has hair down to the small of her back, so you could imagine her frustration. I bought some food to eat for our stay that I put it in the fridge. When I went to pull it out to have some late that night when I got back to my room, I noticed it wasnt cold. The knob was turned to the least cool setting so I had to throw away everything because it was perishable. We wanted to soak in the hot tub, but when we got in, the water was cold enough to make us shiver (which is saying alot considering the temp is currently in the negative range where we are from) Both members of the valet crew that were on staff were awesome! Please let them know that they are doing a great job. 26 February 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A bargain gem in La Jolla Beautifully decorated and well run, the La Jolla HIE gives excellent value for the money. The only thing marring our stay was the fact that it's currently being expanded, and so we were unable to park our car ourselves (we had attentive valets, and did a lot of tipping). Given the distance from the hotel to old town, and the difficulty in parking once you got there, this hotel would benefit greatly by offering a shuttle service (the one in Long Beach does so and it was terrific) 16 February 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gem This hotel is great! Small hotel in a great area, 3 minute walk to the beach. Only issue was WIFI that kept dropping over the 3 days we stayed. Construction going on, but did not notice it. No need to use complimentary valet parking. Finding your own spot on the residential street was easy. Will go back. 05 February 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent location, Nice facility, Terrific Staff This Holiday Inn Express is located about 2 miles from LaJolla Cove, a short drive. It is also about a five minute walk to the nearest beach. It is not practical to walk from the hotel to LaJolla Cove by the beach. It is possible to do so walking along La Jolla Boulevard, but probably not the best use of time/energy. The nearby beach as well as LaJolla Cove are beautiful. The hotel is nice. Most of it is currently one story, with rooms opening onto a courtyard. The hotel is currently building an addition which is 2 stories. Due to the construction, there is no on site parking. I stayed for 9 nights and was able to find reasonably convenient on street parking each time I wanted it. Valet parking is also available at no charge. The rooms seem to be slightly smaller than what I've typically found at HI/E, but they are equipped with refrigerator and microwave, a good size bathroom and large shower. The staff is very nice and helpful. The breakfast includes a pancake machine, pre-made omelette or scrambled eggs (alternating days), the typical HI cinnamon rolls, several varieties of Kelloggs cereal, instant hot cereal, yogurt, apples, bananas, bagels, bread, and mini-muffins. They also had sausage and bacon. Some days there are also raisins and walnuts. The yogurt, raisins and walnuts are very good. The pancakes are good. The baked goods are not very good. Much better can be purchased at the Von's nearby. The bananas were amongst the worst I've had. I do wish HI would allow their hotels to buy their bakery goods, and fruits from the local grocery stores or bakeries. In spite of the less than ideal bakery items and bananas, I do look forward to returning to this hotel in the future (assuming the rates are competitive). Thanks to the staff for helping to make the visit very pleasant. 01 February 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice, cozy rooms as IHG members, we were upgraded to a suite by Vanessa who was at the front desk. Nice room, enjoyed our stay. Staff were courteous. 29 January 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly service/excellent breakfast One high step up to several of the rooms would make it difficult for some guests to navigate. 25 January 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Nice Stay Even though there's construction going on, the stay was quiet and there were no issues with noise. Staff were very helpful and committed. The valet parking was great and safe as well. Looking forward to staying again. 23 January 2015
