Clinking beer glasses

After defeating the Hungarian revolution in 1849, Austrian generals clinked their beer glasses to celebrate their victory. Hungarians made a pledge not to clink glasses for 150 years when drinking beer. That period is over now, but most of the Hungarians still don’t clink beer glasses.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Lovely - but fix the quilts! Have stayed here before and chose a river view room because it is such a fantastic view. Staff here are excellent, although the concierge did misinform us about tours of the Parliament building. Good breakfasts, but some problems with the evening meal - we were initially overlooked (then profuse apologies and complimentary glasses of wine to make up) and then the main courses arrived on the cold side, but still an enjoyable meal. Rooms are comfortable but the quilts are too small for the king-size beds - such a strange lapse, and one we reported when they conducted an in-house satisfaction survey while we were there (a nice touch). Traffic is ridiculous getting from the airport to the hotel - you crawl along the river for a mile or so, moving one car at a time - so be prepared for a delay and if the weather is good tell the driver to overshot the hotel and drop you off by the roundabout - saves a lot of time and only a short walk needed. 18 December 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and excellent facilities Visited Budapest for the Christmas markets and chose the Intercontinental following a recommendation and was totally happy that I did. Excellent location overlooking the Danube and the quality of the facilities and the staff were also of excellent standard. 17 December 2014
