Clinking beer glasses

After defeating the Hungarian revolution in 1849, Austrian generals clinked their beer glasses to celebrate their victory. Hungarians made a pledge not to clink glasses for 150 years when drinking beer. That period is over now, but most of the Hungarians still don’t clink beer glasses.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Wonderful Birthday Many thanks to the Management and Staff of the Intercontinental Hotel for making my sixtieth birthday a special and memorable experience. The holiday was a surprise from my wife and the level of service and friendliness of the staff was excellent, they could not have made our stay more pleasureable 29 August 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Location Hotel had a great location with excellent accomadations. Tha staff was very attentive and responded to our every request with very good anticipation. In Budapest, this is the place to stay on the Pest side with spectacular views of Buda. 29 August 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good to excellent but for one thing. I have stayed at the Intercontinental twice as a member of a family group who had booked a number of rooms. Last time we had the inconvenience of not being able to pay in Hungarian Forint as we had planned for reasons too complicated to explain now; but it was partly the hotel's fault. This time a second payment had been taken out of our account just before we set off in August which we been unaware of as we had already paid a deposit in December. I only saw this second amount on our return after we had paid and settled up in Hungary. Since then we have converted the sums from euro to pounds to forint and believe what was taken is the correct amount overall; but they should have explained what they had done when we were settling up! My email to the hotel seeking clarification about our booking a fortnight before we set off also remains unanswered. 28 August 2014
