Our family of 2 adults and 3 children (ages 9,7,4) had a great stay. This was a 3 day stop over on our way home from five weeks of travelling in Australia and New Zealand. We couldn't have asked for a better end to our trip!
We did our research, knew there was construction, so we weren't disappointed by the work. The hotel management did a good job of communicating with guests about the construction and scheduling the work to reduce the impacts to hotel guests. We had a couple of minor maintenance issues which were resolved immediately. Every person working at the hotel was friendly and kind. The service was excellent. We enjoyed the pools, the sea kayaks, the snorkeling, the lagoon-arium. We splurged (for our family of moderate means) and attended the buffet and Marguesas show. We used the concierge service to schedule a 1/2 day

As frequent visitors to French Polynesia, we usually stay in Tahiti for short stopovers. The Intercontinental is not only convenient to the airport, it is a world class resort, with very nice rooms, and excellent food, activities, and views. Even though there was remodeling going on while we were staying there, it had no effect on the guests. Staff service was excellent. There could be a more staff on hand at checkout times since most people depart for flights at the same time, but a minor issue.
We enjoyed our stay.

As part of a business trip I had the pleasure of staying with IHG in Tahiti. The Resort is incredible, the staff outstanding.
With some distance between building units, even motorized transport is available to wisk you to/from the lobby and your room or if you are most fortunate, your over-the-water-bungalow!
A short 3 minute drive to the airport, some might say the overhead air traffic is a downside but in reality there are only a few commercial large aircraft flights daily and they didn't seem to interfere with MY tranquility or relaxation.
During this stay, there was some modest renovations going on BUT in support of good management decisions, I was pleased to see that they were restricting the hours of work to 9-12 and 2-6 daily which meant sleeping in was fine and it wasn't disruptive in the evenings either so you could rest or unwind as you saw fit.
The Resort is well laid out with many amenities and the staff to support them. Check In/Out was a breeze and the lobby was busy both times for me so their processing of arriving and departing guests is down to a fine art.
Now cost...let's be honest...if you know French Polynesia, it is "pricey" compared to say Canada or the US...but your not IN Canada or the US. Remember, almost everything there is IMPORTED meaning it's going to cost more. If you do take the time however to compare costs of say meals, drinks or other hotel rates for similar rooms/service, you will find the Resort is very competitive. Yes, the initial shock of the costs is something to prepare for but if you put that concern out of your head and enjoy what the Island(s) and the Resort has to offer, you'll have an unforgettable stay.
Staff - the key usually to all which leads to success and THIS staff is no exception. Attentive, courteous, professional, and genuine - they really make you feel welcome, they will go out of their way to assist you with any request (within their limit/power of course) and do everything possible to ensure your stay is memorable. From the Kitchen staff and their fine cuisine, to the Housekeeping staff and their attention to cleanliness and comfort, to the Management overseeing the whole operation, it is THESE people who make the Resort the success it is.
I am off on my next leg of the trip and will miss the Intercontinental Tahiti Resort but will look forward to a return trip and stay with them anytime. Maybe if I am lucky, for a vacation and not business next time!
