We ended up in Tahiti at the end of an Oceania cruise. Since it was my birthday the day of arrival we stayed 3 nights at the "Intercontinental Tahiti Resort and Spa". Thankfully, after a bad morning rainstorm on our arrival the weather improved and became very pleasant for the balance of our stay. The grounds were memorable---the infinity pools, "beach" environment next to the pools, the captive lagoon pool with colorful fish, swim/walkup bar---what's not to like? Most of all the le Lotus restaurant where we took all of our evening meals and one lunch (we are San Francisco based foodies and have eaten at many fine restaurants in many places over 4 decades)was terrific. Sad to say, the "main" restaurant in the "main" building didn't measure up. In short, a very memorable stay---can't think of a more spectacular setting when the sun co-operates.
Kudos to the GM who called down to get us into le Lotus on March 15, my birthday.

It is clean with a great location. Close proximity from the airport. However, staff weren't as friendly. Buffet style choices weren't us great. Polynesian show I enjoyed but, be prepared to pay $100 per person including dinner buffet. I suggest to eat at Le Corque, loved the magnificent views and the selection of food entrees as well.

Stayed at the Intercontinental Tahiti Papeete after a cruise through the South Pacific.
As the reservation was done through the cruise company we were not sure what to expect.
When we arrived at the hotel it was beyond our expectations.
Idyllic setting on a beautiful island.
The pictures on the internet do not do it justice.
The concierge staff were exceptional. When there was a problem with our reservation it was handled quickly.
After this was corrected the chef concierge did everything he could to make our stay memorable. He answered all our questions and made recommendations for activities.
The staff were the other reason that this was memorable stay.
We will definitely return.

Tahiti is a magical place, and the staff of the Intercontinental made our experience even more magical. We came at the end of March, and lucked out to have nothing but sunny beautiful weather. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The head concierge and his team even taught us how to tie a Pareo and were willing to help us as we continued our journey onto other islands of French Polynesia. The resort itself is beautiful with plenty to do from spa, fitness, to snorkeling, scuba, and local culture. This is an amazing resort, if you're going to stay in Papeete, you should stay at the Intercontinental.

Clean room with working A/C and free wifi. Variety of bars, including small swim-up location. No need for cash or tipping as everything is tallied on one bill as they gladly charge to your room. Bring your calculator to see what you will pay when you check out! IHG rewards will afford you a late check-out and free wifi until you leave the hotel, but only if you ask for this. All inclusive buffets are pricey but filling.

The menu choices at the restaurant are very limited and the service at dinner was totally unacceptable; lunch was a little better and there was a buffet for breakfast. For this reason I will not recommend this hotel as there are no other places to eat in the vicinity of the hotel
