MORNINGStart your day with a stroll through the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, which house over 10,000 species of plants. Complete with lake and gazebos, the Gardens offer stunning views of Government House and the city skyline. Explore the children's garden, herb garden, fern gully, rose garden, eucalyptus grove and the Australian rainforest walk. You'll find the gardens in bloom whatever time of year you visit, even in winter when the camellias are perfect. Finish your walk with morning tea at the Observatory Cafe located at the main gates of the gardens. |
AFTERNOONNext, walk up the magnificent St Kilda Road to Federation Square - a complex of galleries, museums, restaurants and shops constructed of glass, zinc and sandstone. Take time to visit the exceptional National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Australia. This public gallery houses an extensive Aboriginal and Australian fine art collection. Later walk up Flinders Street to The Press Club for lunch (reservations essential). This quintessentially Melbourne restaurant features fine Greek cuisine and is inspired by the Greeks' love of food, friends and family. |
EVENINGFor dinner enjoy the contemporary grill at Rockpool (reservations essential). Watch out for the fire show on the promenade on the hour after dusk. After dinner stroll along the promenade towards St Kilda Road. En route, look out for the Travellers Bridge; with its bright yellow entrance, a monument to the many immigrants to Australia. Cross the river on the historic Princes Bridge and enjoy the spectactular view of the city. Many landmarks such as Flinders Street Station, Federation Square and the Arts Centre are beautifully lit at night. |
