New Orleans

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 255 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Do not use the valet parking! The hotel has some major renovations going on but if you look inside of the rooms they are damaged. My window leaked water my entire stay and there was a pool if water on the window seal. The wall in the shower was cracked in the ceiling as if it wasn't fixed after Hurricane Katrina. Okay so I let the valet park my car and they stole everything I had in my car! They cut my convertible top from the inside so I basically spent money to get robbed. They claim they use a third party company but it's still connected to their hotel. 08 March 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Jan of Covington Have stayed here several times in the past. Nice place, great location for the Mardi Gras season. Booked room in November for February stay of one night. Checked status of reservation several days before stay and saw that same room was still available for $30 less than what I had booked room for. Contacted customer service about a rate reduction and the people I spoke with were boderline rude and would not let me speak to a manager about it. All that was done was a new confirmation email was sent increasing the parking rate. This will make me consider another hotel in the future. 08 March 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by :( Gold Ambassador Even though we have a Gold Ambassador membership, we had no benefits at this location. No late checkout, no upgrade, no water or fruit and no small gift. This was very disappointing and quite surprising, seeing that all of those benefits have been standard at the other Intercontinental Hotels we have stayed at. 04 March 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick Weekend in New Orleans New Orleans, love the city, love the Intercontinental Hotel. Very nice suite, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent location. Walking distance to the French Quarter and a short tram ride to the Garden District. Great city for live music. I have stayed at this hotel two other times and had an equally fantastic time. Wish I could get back for Mardi Gras. 28 February 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Stay Just had a fantastic experience at the Intercontinental in New Orleans. The staff was fantastic. The hotel was under construction, but this did not cause any issues during our stay. They only worked during certain hours. We did hear the noise but weren't disturbed by it. Would definitely stay hear again. 28 February 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by No cleaning service provided I stayed for two nights and no one serviced my room after the first night of my stay. It seemed as though someone from the hotel had gone through and put a "do not disturb" sign on each room in my area, so mine was not cleaned. By the time I realized, it was too late (evening) and I wanted to settle down, not wait for the service at that point. It may have been a miscommunication due to the renovations - but, this needs to be fixed. 25 February 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Standard Room I did not know that booking a standard room at the New Orleans InterConti means a room WITHOUT daylight. We looked at a wall outside and we had to turn on the TV to find out about the weather. It was easily the worst hotel room we have ever stayed in. We had other problems as well, once the bathroom door was closed from the outside, it would not open, we had to use a Swiss Army knife. The hair dryer had a cord of one ft, maybe 30 cm. How can you use it? The airline had lost my suitcase, so I asked for a bathrobe, which was supposed to be in the room anyway, it took three phone calls and 75 mins to get one! 24 February 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Helpful Staff Quiet and comfortable room. Friendly, helpful staff. The hotel is undergoing renovations yet the signage and staff were helpful in getting around. Seems to be geared more towards the business traveler. It's a little pricey but then again it was in line with most of the hotels in that area. I would stay there again on business. 20 February 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly Staff The hotel was comfortable and clean. Hotel staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Most New Orleans attractions were within walking distance. 16 February 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service The staff was friendly & very accommodating. We had a very nice stay 16 February 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good location but a badly maintained hotel The location is good, but it is about the only good of this hotel. The entrance area is in maintenance, it is not easy to get to the lobby from the front street. The hotel is generally speaking very old and lack of updates. My room, for instance, has water leaked in when i first checked into the hotel room, and the shower head doesn't work properly. 13 February 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great experience. Perfect location for Rock n Roll Marathon. Had a great experience. However, I left a phone charger in my room and made a claim for lost item. Currently have not heard back from the staff as to whether it was found in the room or not. 13 February 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mr. The Hotel should not be open to the public during refurbishing. $40.00 per day for parking is ridiculous. Hidden taxes, charges and fees come as a bid surprise. I will not stay here again. 12 February 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely noisy Probably excellent hotel, but extremly noisy during the day due to renovations. Hours of jackhammering in the room above us during the day. Must say that except for this (major) inconvenience the stay was good and night rest was fortunately perfect. 12 February 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Most Enjoyable Stay I have stayed at varying hotels world wide and this was one of the very best experiences I've had anywhere. From the extremely patient late night check-in Desk Clerk, to the excellent concierge service and the very thoughtful Room Service personnel, this was one of the most enjoyable stays I've been fortunate to have. As a manager of people I'm acutely aware that repeat business is derived from the very best customer service. I use the axiom; "A satisfied customer statistically will tell 2 to 3 other people while a dissatisfied customer will tell anyone who will listen, but certainly a minimum of 5 to 7 people." For this reason I commend the Intercontinental Hotel for its outstanding customer service. I highly recommend the NOLA Intercontinental Hotel. 12 February 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by golfpro64 I did not get any points because I booked through a hotel web site that lists rooms that are discounted because there is excess capacity. I don't understand why booking through a web site is any different then booking through your reservation site as the end result was that I stayed at your hotel. By the way, the rooms were discounted because you are doing a renovation of the lobby and restaurant and bar. I would like to receive the points 10 February 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad Service and Construction Couldn't sleep, they started doing construction at 0800. You think this wouldn't be a big deal since it looks outside, but it literally sounded like it was in the room floors up and you can't sleep through it. Complained to front desk and they offered to give points for the bad stay, but never did. Also charged me initially $200 more than I had booked the stay for luckily I caught the mistake before leaving. Don't stay here. 08 February 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 It was ok The room was clean and it was not far from Bourbon street. Just a few blocks away. Nothing was really above average other than the valets outside. They are very helpful if you need to know where to go. My one big gripe was that there was some construction onsite. The constant noise of the jackhammer was enough to drive anyone crazy. I want to say from 10am - 5pm, you could hear it. We were on the 8th floor and it sounded like it was next door. Good luck trying to take a mid-day nap between your activities. I thought on Saturday we would have a reprieve from the noise, but lo and behold, construction was still occurring on Saturday. I left early Sunday morning, so I wasn't sure if the jackhammer was going to grace us with its presence then. I'm just happy I missed it. I understand you have to do construction, but other hotels I've stayed at offered a discount or a voucher for their restaurant to make up for the inconvenience. Like I said, it was ok. I would've have enjoyed my stay more if they tried to make up for the darn construction noise. 07 February 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed I used the InterContinental in New Orleans years ago for business and loved the hotel and location. This year, I needed to be back in the city and went straight to the InterCon. Upon booking the room, I never was informed beforehand of the MAJOR construction going on in the hotel. I also called the hotel to inquire about a college tour rate (as advertised on the college website), but never received a return call from Hotel sales. The room was fine, but the construction was a major distruption. No real lobby, loud drilling, and exhaust smells are unfortunately what I remember most. I hope the new constructions end product overcomes the disappointment I experienced, because I did love the hotel years ago. 07 February 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bad Choice! Wow was I ever disappointed! We stayed here for 2 nights prior to going on a cruise. I noticed renovations going on downstairs when we arrived... no problem. At check in no mention of any possible impact on the quality of our stay. After a long day of travelling we decided to take a nap - not to be - Bang Bang hammer drill etc - we thought ok they are fixing something but they can't possibly be working long-term here....HA! at 6:45 AM the next morning yes 6:45 AM LOUD banging and drilling directly by us. Immediately called the desk and were told they were not starting til 8:00 -SERIOUSLY??? We demanded another room and were told to check back at 12. Meanwhile no one called and told the workers they were not supposed to be banging at that early of an hour even. We were moved to a different floor but were treated as if it were OUR fault we weren't happy - the desk clerk pointed to a letter at the desk (which was not there the day before# and tried to say we had one in our room #I looked we did not). On top of that the letter states no noise would occur until 8:30 am. He did grudgingly offer us access to the 14th floor for breakfast - but that in no way makes up for this. I understand this is a business and can't close to renovate but WHY would you place guests directly below all the work? The purpose of this business is serve people? I come to NOLA every year and this was my first and last stay here - I am a Platinum member and thought about joining Ambassador but not after this. IHG has much better properties in the French Quarter. I will say Kudos to your valet guys - they are top notch 31 January 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible water pressure in shower and understaffed Hotel was surprisingly understaffed. Calls to front desk were either never answered or took a long time to get answered; concierge desk left unmanned often; front desk also admitted hotel was understaffed Tv did not work on first night. I was told the entire hotel lacked tv reception that night. Really? Specifically purchased a larger king bedroom with balcony and was promised such when making reservation on IC hotline.. Specifically did not care for club access given New Orleans food culture. When I checked in, my room had been given away. Construction- guests should have been notified in advance. Noise was unbearable on a few early mornings. Shower was a joke. Lack of water pressure was shocking, even after maintenance checked it out. Overall, I was surprised by the poor experience. More comfort inn than intercontinental. 30 January 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the same as it used to be I don’t like to complain. I find it useless; however, I was just very unsatisfied with our stay between Christmas and New Year’s. First, we reserved a Balcony with 2 beds. When we arrived, we were told they had no such rooms available. My husband is a Platinum Elite member and stays at IHG brands whenever he travels. His employees also stay at these hotels as well! We were not made aware of the renovations until check in which, what could we do about it at that time? The noise was only and inconvenience at 8 AM but I understand they are renovating. The thermostat in the room must have been broken as we were so hot each night! We requested additional pillows and were told by management on two separate phone calls that they would be right up. When there was a knock on the door it was for turn down service and chocolates…not what we requested. We asked her for additional pillows and she returned within in 5 minutes. Management still had not shown up. There was also an issue with out hot water. With my husband, son and I taking showers each day, we had to wait for quite a while between showers for hot water to be built up! We have stayed here before with much better service; it seems that the staff is slipping! I know we stayed using my husband’s points (much more per night than any other hotel in New Orleans!) but should our service suffer for this? On a positive note, the valet staff was excellent! They even ran to our truck for my husband’s coat at one time! 29 January 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lots of noise Facility was great, however there was a lot of noise. The first night, after long travels and trying to rest, the fire alarm went off three separate times, all false alarms. Throughout the rest of the stay, there was a lot of drilling and hammering which was very disturbing. All of this really decreased the quality of the experience at this facility. 12 January 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not what we expected! I am a Platinum Royal Ambassador, the last 3 years I average 70-80 nights a year staying in the IHG Brand. My recent experience was the worst I have had with the brand. My wife and I understood the property was under renovation, however we still expected the level of service we have always received from the brand and this location, since this was our 5th stay at the property. At checkin we have always received an upgrade, but this time the agent at the front desk told us none were available, but he would have one the 2nd night of our 3 night stay. We never received a call regarding the upgrade. The in-room service was almost comical. We called the front desk 4 times within a 2 hour period to inform them that our mini bar had not been restocked. Each time we were told that someone would be up to stock it. The last call we asked for a manager and the person claiming to be a manager insured they would take care of it and would call back to confirm. We never got a call back. Upon checkout we spoke to a manager about our experience. We expressed our disappointment in the service we received and our accommodations. She was very apologetic and stated that the hotel was under renovation, but that was no excuse for poor SERVICE. We will definitely not return until after renovations are complete in October. 12 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tired Lady that is getting a makeover This was a lovely hotel located very close to all the great spots of New Orleans. Arrived to be told that the hotel was going through a substantial refurbishment program. On the whole the hotel was lovely. Rooms a little dated but I guess that's one of the reasons for the refurbishment. Check in was ok. Receptionist was a little less professional than expected. I didn't feel all that welcome as he had an ability to make me feel a little uneasy. I have travelled around 9 different hotels over the holiday period and I would say he was at the lower end of the scale of the service I experienced. Check out was good. 12 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely stay over New Years / the Sugar Bowl Staff here was great, very friendly and helpful. Xixi at check-in and Dianne who I believe works with the manager are both amazing and go above and beyond what they are expected to do. I had also put up a couple friends in other rooms of the hotel. They are in the middle of a construction process so if you were by that it was a bit noisy in the mornings but they definitely took care of everything by switching peoples rooms or offering other options. The pool was closed but looked amazing to hang by or swim. Took a look at what the new rooms will look like when complete and man are they nice. This will definitely be the nicest hotel in New Orleans come next October. Just want to take a moment to thank all your staff for making our stay so memorable! Look forward to seeing everyone soon! -Scott 07 January 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 horrible customer service I'm sorry to do this but...These people were horribly unprepared for the Sugar Bowl, New Years' Eve etc. New Orleans hosts lots of events and conventions, but these people weren't organized or managed. There were a few people with good attitudes who cared, but mainly there were problems & excuses: - nobody answered the phone at the front desk (one time it rang for nearly five minutes) - nobody answered room service (see above) - nobody answered the "instant service" button! What a joke!!!!!!! - valet parking lost our car (a joke @$40 per day; we parked 2 cars) - room service "service" and food were terrible - they hassled my teenager when she needed a room key then told me they couldn't give here a key. Only when I threatened to come to the desk to see a manager did they assist her (or treat like she was valued). In short, when you drop four figures++ for 6 room nights, valet and room service, its reasonable to expect SERVICE. Instead, we got the "we're very busy" excuses. Intolerable and unacceptable! 06 January 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Under construction, Lack of hot water! I had stayed at this property a few years ago and was very pleased with the quality of the hotel and staff, but this stay was a nightmare. Jackhammers every morning, no hot water, dated rooms, and rude staff. I had a group of friends book at this hotel as well. I was quite embarrassed by their overall experience. I will certainly not every recommend this hotel again!! 06 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful stay! We were greeted with such a warm welcome upon our arrival. Micah at the front desk is such an asset to your hotel. He immediately recognize my platinum status, and made sure I received my amenities which many of the hotels in your group do not. I throughly enjoyed my stay and will be back! 06 January 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel, Great Location, not so great service. Growing up and flying PAN-AM with my dad as a youngster means Intercontinental has always had a special place in my memories. Unfortunately, this stay was just not as great as I expect from an Intercontinental Hotel. However, this is still a great hotel and I would recommend you give it a try. From a guest services perspective the young man that checked me in on Friday night was great. Warm, friendly, joked with me and was just a great customer service person overall. The hotel itself is beautiful, the location was great and I got upgraded to a suite (Platinum Ambassador) that was exquisite. I had a tall bottle of spring water and large selection of fruit along w/ a personal note when I got to my room. The suite had a main bath with sauna tub, separate glass shower, double sink, water closet as well as a sit down vanity, The living room was a separate area that had a second 1/2 bathroom. It was a wonderful layout. The housekeeping staff and more importantly the room service staff were just amazing. They called after every meal delivery to make sure everything was to my liking and that was a very nice touch. The negative experience started with having to listen to construction that started at 7:30am and kept going until 5:00pm. And I should stress that this was not just construction but what sounded like non-stop concrete core drilling and tile removal. It was just horrible. Why I was given a room right above or near the construction I don't know. I got to wake up to this just about every morning and listen to it the all day until checking out on Tuesday morning. I was not made aware of the construction at check-in though I did notice a stack of notices on the reception desk when I was checking out that referenced the construction. Would have been nice to be notified when the reservation was made or at least when I checked in. It is a bad idea to expect tired guests checking in to notice a sheet of paper on the reception desk warning of the construction. This was supposed to be a 4 day trip to get some much needed quiet downtime before getting back on the road in 2014. Meaning my intention was to relax in hotel room for most of my stay. I am glad I brought a pair of noise canceling headphones as this was my saving grace. The noise essentially ruined my stay completely. What is worse is that I was completely unaware of the construction until I woke up the morning after checking in to that horrible sound. Things continued downhill on checkout. I called down to the front desk at 4:50 am to ask for a taxi to the airport at 5:30am but there was not taxi ready when I got down stairs. It was freezing cold that morning and the 2 valets were sitting in a car (probably to stay warm!) when I walked out of the hotel. It took 5 minutes of me looking around in the cold to find them and ask about my taxi to the airport. The young man had no idea that I called down for a taxi. Apparently the front desk never called him to request one - I assume. He spent several minutes interrogating me about who I called to request a taxi and then begrudgingly proceeded to try and get me one. He was able to hail one down after about 15 minutes while I waited outside in the cold and seemed quite annoyed that he had to do this. After finding a taxi he walks past me and tells me rudely and under his breath that a taxi was on its way. A few minutes later the taxi pulls up and I am left alone to load all of my luggage into the car. The $10 tip in my hand intended for the valet was added to the tip for the nice taxi driver instead. In summary. I think the property is great. The rooms are what you would expect from an Intercontinental hotel. The room service menu is a bit limited but this is more then made up by the quality of the food (which was excellent) as well as the wonderful wait staff. The construction noise, front desk staff and valet (on the way out) were the major pain points during my stay. As a Platinum Ambassador I would more then recommend staying here but don't expect the level of guest service to be as high as you would expect at most Intercontinental Hotels. Also, you may want to wait for the construction to be completed or make sure they put you in a room FAR FAR away from the work. 04 January 2014
