Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Experience It could be said that the Mark Hopkins is a great hotel that enjoys a wonderful location. The Top of the Mark is wiithout doubt the crown jewel. The councergie service very helpful and profesional (Mr. Sotelo). Possibly I would add more international TV channels (Spanish, German, French networks) and an afternoon tea/coffee service. 06 January 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bad experience I stayed at the Mark Hopkins for New Year's eve. I was awakened in the morning by loud noises in the hallway and adjacent rooms due to the walls being paperthin. When I checked in I explained to the front desk that my wife was pregnant and had just found out and requested an upgrade. The gentleman at the desk give me an upgrade at a $20 per night charge. I stay at the Westin frequently and I'm giving upgrades on countless occasions with no charge whatsoever. I explain this issue to the manager and he said I'm sorry to hear that. I don't think that's a correct response freight guessed that was unhappy. 06 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by All Around GREAT! This hotel has it all! It is unique, beautiful, and in a great location. Our room was on the 17th floor and very comfortable. The bed and linens were high quality. We will certainly stay here again! Thank you. 04 January 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Overpriced old room Hotel has a nice view from the bar/restaurant but that's about all it has going for it. The rooms are old and drabby, walls are paper thin so get ready to hear your neighbors. They charge you $60 to park your car which is steep even for SF. My advice: avoid this overpriced hotel which is trying to call itself a luxury property and just stop by for a drink and the view from the bar. 04 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing Experience and true 5-Star Property My wife and I had a great night at the Mark Hopkins....the staff was absolutely amazing and I can say this was the best hotel experience I have had in years! The valet, front desk and housekeeping staff were all super-friendly and helpful. It was great to engage with them and listen to their recommendations. We sincerely felt like we had the inside track to making the most out of our brief stay. We had the best room! The views were amazing! Room was by far the cleanest I have experienced in my 50+ nights per year. A historic property for sure, but we felt like nothing was absent given that. Tip: Wait to have a drink at the Top of the Mark...views are just as great and you don't have all the guidebook junkies in your way! :) Thank you to your great staff! We will be back for our anniversary! 03 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Above and beyond expectations! It was our 25th wedding anniversary and we wanted to do something special. We didn't want to fly or drive a long ways and we are only an hour from San Francisco. We stay at a lot of hotels but this milestone will not come up again so we decided to make it memorable. The Hotel and staff at The Mark Hopkins exceeded our expectations. They even magically made a fresh strawberries with dipping sauce plate appear while we were out to dinner on our last night. The Top of the Mark desert was artistic but not as good as expected. My head sank right through the pillow to the bed giving no support whatsoever for my head but that seems to be the norm these days. That's probably just me though. If you are even considering booking this hotel, and it's in your budget, just do it. You won't be disappointed. 03 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff A beautiful hotel and very kind and helpful staff! Enjoyed my stay very much. 03 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great location and beautiful hotel we loved the location. we hoped that the lobby would have a bar as well in the space located behind the sitting area for it would make more people have a more enjoyable moment at the Mark Hopkins InterContinental. The Top of the Mark has amazing views, but NEEDS renovation along with a larger bar perhaps located in the center like it did in the old days. Beds are amazing with Frette sheets! What a treat! But the pillows were a bit too soft and lumpy. Great toiletries offered by the hotel more than any we've stayed at. 03 January 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible room We stayed in room 308 facing California Street and the windows did nothing to reduce the street noise. We woke up early in the morning and were kept up late at night with the cable cars bell ringing, motorcycles and general street noise. The shower head pressure was also very weak. I asked the front desk to see if someone could adjust, but no one ever came. 02 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Our Holiday by the Bay We were absolutely enthralled by our experience! This San Francisco landmark is ideally located. We enjoyed the holiday ambiance of the hotel and, in a particular, the amenities. We highly recommend upgrading the experience to the Club Level. 02 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sunrise Breakfast Top of the Mark We stayed for 2 days after Christmas, visiting and touring the city. Staff were helpful even though every room was booked. Top of the Mark is a name I've heard for 20 years. By mistake were arrived for breakfast at 7:30 AM and were treated to a sunrise over San Francisco that will never be duplicated. The hotel is not inexpensive, but neither is it the most expensive in the city. The quality of service and location make it a very viable choice for us to return again. 02 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent hotel and friendly/helpful staff Our stay at the Intercontinental-Mark Hopkins was very enjoyable. The staff made you feel welcome and were always ready to help. The room was very clean and comfortable. And the classic ambiance of the Mark Hopkins added to the pleasurable experience. Highly recommend this hotel. 01 January 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Needs better management Staff checking in was VERY friendly and welcoming. Although we were not able to get the kind of room we requested, he explained why and tried to accommodate. The problems were that the ice maker was broken (we were on the 5th floor). When I called downstairs, the person who answered was very dismissive and simply said i wasn't holding down the button...the machine was bone dry and clearly had been out of service for a while...if he had simply told me to go to another floor that would have been fine.... I used award points for the room and when we went to check out - I found that I had been charged for the room on my credit card. Luckily I keep an eye on-line and told management, who reversed it (2 days later). Just seems like they should have caught that one... The hotel is clearly a landmark but seemed a bit threadbare. Maybe it was just the overwhelming occupancy that weekend. Anyway, I'm a fan of Intercontinental Hotels overall but probably not this property. 01 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stunning hotel. The hotel is just beautiful. The location is great but a long uphill walk from tourist sites. 01 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and location Our stay at the Mark Hopkins was terrific!! The hotel was beautiful and so contently located to all the major San Francisco attractions. The staff were so helpful and friendly no matter how small the details. 31 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Always Enjoyable! We have stayed at the Mark Hopkins several times over the past years. It is refeshing to see some familiar faces that make our experience very enjoyable. The majority of people that do work there are very kind and helpful. The only disappointment I have when we stay, seems to be the concierge. It seems they always have their heads down and do not acknowledge people in a timely manner. And when they do acknowledge, it seems like a chore, really? I do have issues with people not saying good morning or good evening to patrons, that is one thing that keeps folks in business: affirmation that you are welcome here and we are ready to help you. From the doorman to the front desks, they usually are all very friendly and helpful. Rooms are always well kept. If there was coffee & cookies in the lobby, that would be nice as well. It is very welcoming and I am all about hospitality. Outside of that, we truly enjoy staying at the Hopkins. 31 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! We had a wonderful time during our stay; it was my husband's 70th birthday & we had a surprise, small birthday cake and card waiting for us on our second night in our room! Room was VERY quiet, bed comfortable, good value. Only "beware" I will give you is don't think the Top of the Mark Restaurant is anything other than a noisy lounge. Granted, we were there on a Friday night but it was so noisy we could hardly converse and the six drunks at the table next to us didn't help! Fun place to be if you're in the mood for that sort of thing; we weren't. We will absolutely stay there again next time we're in SF, just won't visit the lounge! 30 December 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great Room, Poor Service For what is supposed to be one of the best hotels in the city the service was poor. The hotel staff, especially the front desk gave us the impression they just did not care about us at all. We have had better service at the IHG lower priced properties than we got here. We would not stay here again. 29 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Except for Small Bathroom and Slow Check-in Nice room. Clean and comfortable. Easy walking to Union Square. Cable car stops right in front. The bathroom is so small it is hard to sit comfortably on the toilet. Also check-in was understaffed so it went pretty slow. 29 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Christmas Eve was perfect at Mark Hopkins San Francisco! First time here with family. Front Desk automatically upgraded us because of my IHG Rewards membership, gave us a corner room. Very spacious room with one king size bed, beautiful large bathroom, everything was great. Husband was very pleased and he is a very picky person with ridiculous standards! Beautiful main lobby, great staff, mature guests, great location for us since we attended church service at Grace Cathedral. It was a wonderful experience, thank you Mark Hopkins SF for a perfect Christmas. 28 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Front Desk, Very Comfortable Bed From the moment of our arrival by car, service was smooth and thorough. Bags whisked away, car promptly stored, and check-in was a snap. John at the Front Desk was terrific - very friendly, gracious, informative and helpful. In record time we were escorted to our room with a wonderful view of downtown SF. The Mark has become our "go to" getaway hotel in SF. 28 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thank you for a Wonderful Christmas! From Santa and cookies in the Lobby to the view of a decorated Huntington Park and the sound of the cable car bell everything about our stay was absolutely fabulous. We had a room on the 6th floor that faced California street with a wonderful King sized bed. The linens must be 5 million thread count if there is such a thing! Thanks to the very helpful concierge we were able to grab a fantastic meal at the Huntington Hotel before retiring to our room to watch the 49ers clinch a spot in the playoffs on the HDTV! Yeah 49ers! The staff was more than helpful in showing us how to use the Keurig coffee maker, the safe and in bringing extra cream for the coffee in the morning. All in all this was one our best hotel stays and an absolutely fabulous Christmas memory. 27 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great views of the city I have no complaint about the hotel - the room was great, very spacious and the bed comfortable. We were told to expect a welcome gift of water and fruit as a Club Member and these never arrived. Once the hotel sent us a message that they could not deliver it because we had our do not disturb button lit on the wall heater control. We corrected this but 2 days later we still did not receive it. Upon check out I informed the clerk that we never received it and she said she would look into it. Well not sure what that means since I'm home now. 26 December 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It was ok The only problem is the water pressure when you are taking a shower. The pressure is really low 26 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great week end in San Francisco room was great . bad comfy and clean. service second to non. only glitch was diner, top of the mark is a busi populer spot. after15 min i hade to go and look for some wher elswere. thanks for a great time idarmon 25 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sleep quality bed was not firm somewhat lumpy need new mattress. every other aspect of the stay was exceptional , the staff was the best! 23 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love this place! The hotel is beautiful. The staff is the best (especially Anna in the Club Lounge). The bed and amenities are top-notch. I would always recommend the Club Level. It will keep you fed and happy from breakfast til evening. The location is great. We walked to Union Square one day and Fisherman's Wharf the next day. We rode the cable cars back since it's all up hill but if you wanted a good workout and have comfortable shoes then it can be walked. 21 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great service I booked a hotel online for our 24th wedding anniversary at another hotel in San Francisco. When we arrived it was NOTHING like what we saw online. It was so unacceptable I got a refund and walked out. My husband and I found ourselves without a booked room on a Friday night in the city. Needless to say the trip wasn't starting out great. We pulled into the Mark Hopkins hotel and was greeted with a smile by a lady behind the desk. I wish I would have gotten her name. We told her briefly what our situation was. She listened and was very sincere. She offered us a great room rate and gave us a discount for our terrible experience even though she had nothing to do with it. Within minutes we were in a fabulous room with a glass of wine enjoying the breathtaking view of San Francisco. On our special evening we received an unannounced visit from room service with complementary strawberries and chocolate. We had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed every minute of our stay. I highly recommend this hotel. I live about an hour from SF and you bet I this will be the hotel I check into on my next visit. Thank you for making our anniversary special. Sincerely, Mr. & Mrs. Casino 20 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Three day stay Nice very clean room. Needed good light for reading and a counter around the sink in the bathroom. 19 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyed our stay Generally we enjoyed our stay, some points - The rooms are nice, the location is great and it was an enjoyable stay - The speed of service upon checkin was subpar - We were given options of the 3rd floor or 10th floor for $40 extra per night. We were told the 10th floor was larger, we couldn't see any size difference - the view was nicer though - They allow pets into the rooms, next door the dog was barking at 1am - I attempted to call the front desk (called concierge instead accidentally) and noone picked up (technology issue they were trying to fix). We were refunded the $40 upgrade fee and were promised a bottle of wine (never delivered) In general, we liked the place but it wasn't a perfect experience 18 December 2013
