Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Best The Mark Hopkins is simply the best! Best Beds Best Lobby Best in room furniture Best history Best Crew Best GM Best Views 30 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DCTAS Excellent on every visit they not only try but succeed the rooms are always very clean and the staff super professional and friendly. 30 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Perfect in all details. Top location, lovely rooms and amenities and overwhelming friendly and helpful staff. Particularly overpriced room rates most probably due to special events. 28 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Mark Hopkins is the best We always stay at the Mark Hopkins when we visit San Francisco and we can't say enough good things about it. The staff is friendly and accommodating. We always ask for the same wonderful room and we love the Club, which makes our stay so comfortable and easy. The Mark Hopkins is truly our home away from home. 24 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent choice! We loved our stay at The Mark Hopkins and would stay here again if coming back to San Francisco. Great service, ultra comfortable, awesome location. I only have two suggestions: Please consider offering free WiFi and larger bath towels. 23 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a fun stay! We loved our very comfortable room, the service (especially by the concierge from the Philippines). The food, wine and views from the Top of the Mark were spendid! A very memorable one night stay! Thank you! 23 September 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Customer Service Lacking I usually love staying at Intercontinental, not this time. Valet/Bellman at check-in was not attentive - stood there chating with a driver while I waited at my car. Then he loaded my luggage in in three runs instead of getting a cart - leaving things in two different places - I waited with my car and luggage when I realized what he was doing. Overcharged for my room - requested on two occasions to have it fixed. Front desk apologized, said he fixed it and again I phoned after receiving folio. She said accounting would call me back, still haven't heard. Wrong paper in the morning (no biggie) So far hasn't been. I have low blood sugar - love getting the fruit/nut bowl at check-in, waited more than 5 hours and 2 phone calls. Other than that my room was clean and comfortable. Will stay here when I absolutely have too. 22 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 25th Wedding Anniversary My wife and I chose the hotel as part of our celebrations. The hotel is beautifully decorated, smart, tidy, with wonderful staff who all wished us well for our anniversary. The room we checked in to was wonderful, well appointed and spacious. All very comfortable with a mini bar, Keurig coffee, large bed, and great views (we were on the 14th floor). Top of the Mark a great bar at the top of the hotel, with its fine service and panoramic views. Special mention to Helene, the concierge, who communicated with me prior to our arrival to ensure we were getting our tour trips arranged, as well as dinner reservations, and was attentive and supportive during our trip, keeping an eye out for us and making sure our needs were met. All the staff were excellent during our stay and really complemented the beautifully laid out hotel, ensuring our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations were truly memorable in San Francisco. 22 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great beds and quiet room. We have stayed at The Mark Hopkins three times and the staff on each occasion have been very friendly and helpful particularly the porters. We love going to The Top of the Mark for cocktails. I do think the hotel could leave bottled water at no charge as $6.50 a bottle is ridiculous.Charging for internet services at a quality hotel is a bit greedy. Overall I would stay again. 20 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room, great location Great location/ Great room and view. Price was high due to a convention filling up this hotel and the Fairmont. My only complaint was that on two different occasions, housekeeping had been called to bring up add'l towels and both times, it took over FOUR HOURS and two calls. On one call, the person in housekeeping, said, "we're very busy." I said it took less time to fly 2,000 miles than to get two towels brought to the room? That's the only place they need to improve service. Top of The Mark is pretty outdated but can't find a better place to have a drink and the best view around. I'll go back. 19 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room condition I was a little surprised that a hotel of this caliber would have anything amiss In the bathroom the hand towel rack was pulling away from the wall The hairdryer outlet gave me a shock because it is loose The cold water handle would occasionally keep rotating and not turn the water off Burned out bulb on 1 side of the mirror 19 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cruise stay We stayed at the intercontinental for one night awaiting to join our cruise ship the following day. It took us18 hours long flight because of delays to arrive from the uk so were exhausted. We slept till the early hours and awoke hungry and thirsty. Thanks to the efficient room service team they accommodated our needs even in the middle of the night. Thankyou ! The food was good and the room comfortable. The view from our room wasn't good but we did not worry about that as we were only staying the one night. I didn't see enough of San Francisco so we are planning to return and yes I would happily return to this hotel 16 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by very nice hotel, but..... Very good place, comfortable room, correct attention of the staff. Every day we had problems with the magnetic card, therefore we had to call to the front desk so that someone opens to us the door of our room. We visit the restaurant ' Top of the Mark ', who certainty has the the best seen of the city; everything had been perfect, but the attention of our waiter performed the worst thing and to culminate, it recharged excessively the account of our credit card. Finally to mention that there is exaggerated the daily tariff of the valet parking. 13 September 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment As this is a world reknown property where I had stayed 20 years ago, I had certain expectations of it still being a world class property. It is no longer in that class. The front desk was understaffed at Sunday AM checkout. The Top of the Mark is not a good restaurant. The catering was overpriced and the catered food was cold and unappetizing. The rooms had inadequate power outlets for today's business traveler. Bathroom lighting was inadequate. This property was disappointing. Sal the doorman was the best thing about this property - he was top notch. He helped with the wheelchair and other details. 12 September 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great location but very poor lighting and extremely small bathroom While the location of this hotel is excellent, we were very disappointed in the size and comfort level of the bathroom as well as the extremely poor lighting. Additionally, while we are supporters of conservation, the water savers installed on the shower were a bit extreme. Very poor water pressure in the shower/bathtub. The sink in the bathroom was a pedastal sink and left almost no room to store or display toiletries needed on a daily basis. The lighting over the toilet was brighter than that over the sink. Drawer space was very limited for a five day stay as well. We had an issue accessing the Top of the Mark for breakfast on a Monday, as the timer did not unlock the floor at the predetermined time of 6:30am and none of the clocks at the front desk were synchronized. We had to ask four times to have someone unlock the elevator so we could eat, as we had a tour starting at 8am and were worried we would be late. We did enjoy the bed and pillows. We ordered room service one night and the service was quick and efficient and the food was very good. All in all, I would probably not stay at this hotel in the future due predominantly to the bathrooms lack of space and comfort. Regards, JHC 11 September 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 A 3-star hotel, not a 5. The Mark Hopkins is a nice 3-star hotel, but certainly not a 5-star. When we arrived my husband and I were put in the wrong room. We had also reserved a room for our daughters, and they got our nicer room. We were too tired to move. There is only one robe per room, which seems silly when there are two people staying there and we expected two robes. My sister had a bad experience dealing with the staff at The Top of the Mark - they were rude when she was bringing guests from the wedding party for drinks, said they couldn't accommodate the group, and were unhelpful in general. The atrium area, where breakfast is served, is a potentially lovely area. Unfortunately, it appears to be off-limits during the day. The furniture in there is beyond tacky, even for breakfast, and the place is completely uninviting during the rest of the day. One of the concierges gave my relatives incorrect information about public transportation and made their sight-seeing experience miserable. On the plus side, the rooms are fine, the beds are fine, and the location is good. But definitely disappointing if you are expecting a 5-star experience. 11 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and classic property Loved the historic nature of the hotel, but welcomed the fresh decor and amenities in the room. We had a wornderful view and highly clean, neat room. Checking in took a while as only one person at the desk to start and at least three customers waiting - highly unusual for an Intercontinental in my experience. However, once had the attention of the staff, they were extremely polite, professional, and helpful. Immediately recognize my platinum/Ambassodor status and explained some of the features of the hotel. Loved the Top of the Mark, great maritinis. The hotel and staff made the start of our memorable weekend - daughter's wedding in Big Sur all the better! Thanks to the entire team! 09 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly recommend for location, luxury and service. This was our first time staying at the Mark and we will be back. The location was amazingly convenient to San Francisco's wonderful public transportation. The room was perfect. The service impeccable, and the bonus of dining at the Top of the Mark was like the frosting on the cake. 09 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great First Visit to San Francisco This was our first visit to San Francisco and we wanted the full experience, so where else to stay but Nob Hill! The Mark Hopkins was first class from the moment we were welcomed at the door. Check-in was expedient and we were in our room within minutes of arriving (even with a crowded lobby full of wedding guests)! Our room was great with an exceptional view of the skyline and the Bay and the bed was very comfortable. The housekeeping staff was most accommodating to our requests for additional coffee, etc. in our room. Our stay was made even more memorable by the assistance of their concierge, Helene, who suggested to us (and we followed) all of our dining places for breakfast and dinner. Some of these places were off the beaten track and locals dining selections and we thoroughly enjoyed them with the other couple traveling with us. Getting to and from anyplace in San Francisco was easy with the trolley lines passing immediately adjacent or within a few blocks of the hotel. The doorman were most willing to provide directions to the most direct route. Yes, it is uphill, but with exploration of the surrounding areas, we had fun finding different routes to return to the hotel! Would highly recommend staying at the Mark Hopkins. The Top of the Mark was a nice respite after a day of sightseeing also! 09 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location, Exceptional Staff Not only is this a top notch hotel, the staff is exceptional. I did not run across a single employee that wasn't cheerful, upbeat and welcoming. Even received thank you notes for the tips from the housekeeping staff!! All this comes with a very wonderful location that makes exploring the city easy and enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Mark Hopkins. 09 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cosy bed We stayed at the hotel for one night prior to our cruise and then for a further five days afterwards. We found the room comfortable, clean and adequate for our requirements. The staff were friendly and efficient at all times. We had a problem after our cruise that our room was next to the lift. Due to the noise of the lift we asked if we could be moved and we were immediately given another room without any hesitation or fuss. Would recommend this hotel. 09 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Five Star Service. Always. I keep returning to the Mark Hopkins, the only hotel in San Francisco with reliably 5-star service 24x7x365. There are larger hotels, newer hotels, flashier hotels but no better hotels than the Mark Hopkins. 08 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My First Choice. Whether it's the Mark Hopkins in SF, the Intercontinental Yorkville in Toronto or the Intercontinental Le Grand in Paris, why would you look for any other hotel? Great locations, outstanding properties, superior accommodations, unbelievable service and amazing ambience make a stay at any Intercontinental a classic and magical experience that makes travel a true joy. Always my first choice. 08 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by third visit in 4 months Our daughter recently moved from boston to san francisco. We were looking for a hotel near to her as our home away from home when we visited. The Mark Hopkins delivered! The hotel is beautiful, clean, conveniently located to most everything, but the best of all is the hotel staff. Manager Chris was wonderful in personally welcoming us back three times. He is awesome. And we particularly grew fond of Tony and Ceasar. The people there are very friendly, accomodating and truly want to make your stay happy and comfortable. The Top of the Mark is not to be missed...breathtaking. We will probably be back again soon for a fourth visit ! 08 September 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by An Old Hotel on Top of a Big Hill Our feelings on this hotel are very mixed. In one regard, the hotel is a beautiful old hotel in a great part of SF (albeit hilly) and there are great views from the Top of the Mark restaurant (although the bartender we had was anything but personable). The staff is certainly top-notch and accommodating to most all requests. The check-in process was easy, including leaving our bags with them while we explored the City before the room was ready. On the other hand, this is an old hotel so there are drawbacks. We were very hot in our room even with the AC on.... however, we were eventually told by the maintenance staff that the hotel only has 1 main chiller unit and that it only comes on once the outside temp reaches a certain level. Apparently this threshold was not reached, so we were unable to actually make our room any colder despite being hot. This resulted in restless sleep for both of our nights at the hotel. Also, we were not very impressed with much of the room amenities. For such a high-end hotel (especially among the IHG options), I did not feel like things (sheets, towels, bath extras) were any different than what I would find in a Holiday Inn Express. The hotel also says there is a complimentary car service during the weekdays, but they did not offer this on a Monday (as it was a holiday) and the car would not pick up at another location...it would only take us places from the hotel. While we love SF and certainly will be back again, I do not think this hotel is worth the high price and cannot recommend it to others. Stay elsewhere to save money and just visit TOTM for drinks...then enjoy one of the many fine restaurants in town with your extra funds! 07 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay We believe the Hotel is well worth the price of entry. Good staff comfortable rooms great position. We do recommend consideration in all short lists. 07 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great, but what's with the new shower heads? We have enjoyed the Mark Hopkins 8 or 9 times so far this year and are consistently impressed and appreciative of the hospitable and professional staff. Courtesy, a high regard for guest's comfort and making one feel welcomed are highlights. And, of course, its difficult to pass on the exceptional San Francisco views from atop this Nob Hill gem. BUT, on our most recent stay we noted that the hotel has installed new shower heads which emit basically a whispers spray of water. It might have been quicker and more comfortable to rinse off in the bathroom sink! Perhaps this is a new-fangled and crazy mandate from the City, but it gives us pause to perhaps go across the street on our next visit to see if that hotel has changed it's shower heads as well! Picky, picky, but a discernible difference from our past, and totally comfortable stays at The Mark. 07 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just one thing We had an absolutely wonderful time during our stay at the Mark Hopkins. It was my birthday! The only thing we were disappointed about was that we couldn't have my birthday dinner at the Top of the Mark. We thought you served dinner at the Top. We went up there early, all 6 of us, snd were escorted to a table. The we got suspicious when threre weren't table clothes on the table. We had to leave and find another restaurant. 05 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Said San Francisco Good experience. Complained to management about cleanliness and they reponded positively. 04 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Pleasant stay Stayed at the Mark Hopkins for one night pre-cruise and three days post-cruise (to Alaska). Hotel was pre-booked by the Cruise Line. Nice location and the staff were very welcoming on arrival. Both rooms that we occupied were clean and the beds were really comfortable. 03 September 2013
