Insider Tips

Don't call it Frisco!

San Francisco is a great diverse city, with its people from all parts of the world. We're friendly and enjoy showing off our city, don't hesitate to ask anyone for directions!
As splendid as when it opened in 1926, Mark Hopkins is one of the city’s finest historic San Francisco luxury hotels. It’s ideally located at the crossing of three cable car lines, just minutes from Union Square. Each suite is furnished in a unique, stately style. Breathtaking views of San Francisco combine with fine dining and a signature 100 Martini menu at Top of the Mark restaurant. Described when it opened as ‘architecturally perfect’, this San Francisco luxury hotel remains so today.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delighted I had a great stay at the Mark Hopkins, where I enjoyed outstanding accommodations, meals, and service. The weather was spectacular, and I had a beautiful suite on a high floor with a view of the North Bay, Russian Hill, Brockelbank Apartments (from the Hitchcock film Vergito), Berkeley, Chinatown, Financial District, Transamerica Building, Bay Bridge, Union Square, and South Bay. I could even catch a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge. I could look down on skyscrapers such as 111 Sutter, 505 Montgomery, and the Corporate Goddesses atop 580 California. I could see the cable cars on California Street and Powell. I could hear the bells of Grace Cathedral chime on the hour through a partially open window, and I could also hear the carillon recitals performed on the bells of Grace Cathedral in the morning and afternoon. There was a beautiful orchid in my suite as well as a crystal chandelier and large dining room table with four chairs. The suite was immaculate, and everything was in perfect working order. There was a living room area with a sofa, sitting chairs, and large flat-screen TV with a wide variety of HD content available. There were French Doors leading to the bedroom, which had a very comfortable King bed. The marble bath had a soaking tub with whirlpool jets, large mirror, and separate shower, with glass French doors leading to the shower. Toy from Room Service brought up my Intercontinental Ambassador amenity of mineral water, fresh fruit, and local organic chocolates. I had a great night's sleep. In the morning, I had an early breakfast at the Nob Hill Club, where my server was the always attentive Wayne. Later, I had Sunday Champagne Brunch at Top of the Mark, where my server was the always attentive Michael, the maitre d' was Patty, and the pianist was Elias, who played a Duke Ellington tune for me. I had a great table with a view of the Palace of Fine Arts, Golden Gate Bridge, Grace Cathedral, and Alcatraz. It was a clear enough day that you could see the Farallon Islands from Top of the Mark. Ana in Guest Relations was excellent as always. Bravo! 20 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hunter/McCaffrey wedding block Thank you from the McCaffrey family! We had a wonderful time at the Mark Hopkins. The staff and accommodations were remarkable, and we greatly appreciate you honoring the cancelation of a room on Saturday night even though it came in two hours late. The only thing that held us back a bit was getting into the Top of the Mark. We were in the lobby by the elevators for quite a while on Friday evening. We will be back! 19 November 2014
