Naval Air Station Meridian is an essential training facility for the U.S. Navy. It plays an important role in training and supporting Navy pilots. While access to many areas is restricted, some special events and airshows are open to a wider net of visitors. Just 4 miles from our hotel, this Murfreesboro landmark was established in 1806 as the first school for white males and later became the first school for African American students in 1884. It reopened in 2000 as a museum and cultural center, now on the National Register of Historic Places. Open for guided tours on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (admission fee applies), the museum features an original classroom, Civil War artifacts, and Underground Railroad exhibits.
